Hi everyone

My dad isn't raw, but he says that he would love to incorporate it in his diet.
The thing is, he is a cyclist and he works out everyday - after a session he often eats a lot of chokolate and such - I said he should rather eat some fruit.
He asked me whether I knew an "excercise smoothie"? I didn't - Actually I am quite hopeless when it comes to excercise - I 'm more focused on eating healthy (i do pilates too - but have never really been a sport fanatic:D)
Anyway, if anyone knows something about excersice and raw food , or if there is a thread on the subject somewhere - I'd be very happy if you could help:D

Hi Alba and welcome! :)

Have you noticed there is an Exercise and Fitness category on the home page? You might check that while waiting for responses. There may be something that could help you immediately.

Well, I have heard that an apple/celery juice helps to replace elecrolytes lost and celery is a good source of natural sodium to replace what you have sweated off. If making juice, I would juice way more apples than celery because he is a newbie and the celery may seem strong.

My fav. smoothie that I usually drink after working out is simple: 2 ripe bananas, 1/2 cup apple juice or coconut water, and 1 cup frozen blueberries or frozen mixed berries. ;)

Tell us what he ends up liking!

I have read in many Raw books that just bananas & water make a GREAT after-workout smoothie...

Hi, Alba! I do a pretty hardcore bootcamp in the mornings, and afterwards I make a smoothie of young coconut water and meat, frozen banana, a heaping tablespoon of almond butter. It's delicious, has a ton of electrolytes, protein, and keeps me feeling full and happy till lunch.

coconut water is the best to do after a cardio session because it is like natural gatorade and it tastes really good. Make sure to tell him to get the young coconuts.

My favorite exercise smoothie is from Raw Food Real World. They said they came up with it for muscle bound meatheads. I am neither but I love this protein shake. Here is pretty much how I make it, I don't measure.

1 Chopped Mango
1 tsp bee pollen
1 tsp hemp powder
1 T honey
1 banana
2 C coconut water (or regular water)
1 T of almond butter
vanilla extract
sea salt

This shake can get me through the whole day sometimes if I'm not working out :)

If he wants chocolate he could eat raw chocolate or a chocolate smoothie
here's one http://www.totalrawfood.com/recipes/&recipe_id=12

Maca is supposed to be good for endurance
Bananas are my exercise food of choice
Green smoothies are supposed to help people exercise for longer without getting tired, so a green smoothie with bananas would be best - my favourite is 200g kale and 4 bananas = 4 glasses.

Seaweed is the food highest in electrolytes. I don't have any good blended seaweed recipes though. I tried putting sea salad in a smoothie the other day and it was so disgusting I couldn't drink it. I put it in the dehydrator.
I have made a seaweed blend in the past but I can't remember what was in it - maybe it was wakame or dulse, with sprouted beans, and some kind of greens, and a couple of tomatoes....it was nice.

For protein a milk shake of hemp seeds, water or juice, banana and strawberries is lovely.
