are pickles considered raw? I absolutely love dill pickles and eat them as snacks.. there are hardly any calories, but I'm wondering if I picked up a jar of them if that would be considered raw...
I'm kinda thinking not... :(

No pickles are not raw. The jars are put into large vats of boiling water to seal them, so they are shelf stable. Unless you make our own refridgerator pickles out of raw apple cidar vinagar, spices, cucumbers and salt they aren't raw. Just remember, if it's in a jar, can or bottle, and it's shelf stable, then it's not raw, because it's boiled to be sealed shut and kill any bacteria.

There are many threads here about fermented foods and some consider them very healthy and known since ancient times. Some of the threads have links for products that will help you. I have not done this yet but I do crave the fermented sour foods.

And remember that fresh, raw plant food is not the same as those foods which have been fermented, stored, dried, dehydrated, pickled or processed in some way. I consider fresh, raw plant food to be more vital and sustaining. Just my opinion.

fermentation is a form of decay and I am not sure that we are meant to eat foods that are decayed so it should not be a long term plan. Other creatures do not eat fermented foods.
If it helps a person to transition then maybe it is acceptable for a while.

Claussen's are in jars, but are not shelf-stable, they must be refridgerated even before opening. They are very crispy, not soggy like regular jarred pickles and still have a fresh green color. Would those still be considered 'not raw'?

I don't believe Claussen's are raw. However, I have written Bubbie's, and they claim that their pickles and sauerkraut are raw.
