View Full Version : Raw Food Swap!?

((I apologize if this is not allowed))

I'm guessing it probably isn't possible, but wouldn't it be cool if we could have a raw vegan pal swap? You know, like one everyone participating would put an entry onto a thread including a raw wishlist and then one person would pick names out of a hat or something to randomly match all the participants up. They would read their wish list and send them a package. Maybe they would send some well traveling crackers or grawnola they made, or maybe they would send fresh fruit or whatever they think their pal would like. Then we would all get to share and try new things, and it would be fun making up the packages.
Other forums and things do this all the time,...but i don't know how possible it would be when it comes to food.

I just thought it would be cool to put that out there. :D

I do not know if sending or accepting food from strangers is a very good idea in case there is someone around with a weird sense of values.
I like your idea but would prefer that it was non food items.
(am I always a spoilSPORT).

You mean you think someone might poison you?!?!?

I think it's a lovely idea but would be difficult to put into practise.
I live in England so I don't think I could take part which is probably a good thing because I'm a terrible chef!!

Sport,
hmm I suppose you're right. If it was done the products could not be home made, they would have to have been pre-packaged which is pretty hard with raw unless we are talking things like sun dried seaweeds and such. But fresh fruit and vegetables would be fine, no? I definately understand your concerns as I thought of these things too...hmmmm. I know there are vegan swaps over the internet but people usually send pre-packaged things if there is any food involved. lol spoilSport, thats cute lol....but you were just being logical and such so thats understandable. I suppose we could do non food items.

Bobbie,
You're right it would be difficult..I don't know how the others do it. I am a terrible chef when it comes to raw as well! lol...I can make a smoothie, bite into a piece of fruit and munch greens or put together a simple 2-3 piece salad and thats about it. lol. You could always just send some fresh fruit lol. But yeah it would be quite hard. if anyone knows how it could be done feel free to shout it out

yeh, good idea in theory but agree it could be potentially not good with food items and weirdos . Hey bobbie, you are the first person Ive discovered in this forum who is from from the uk - I live in scotland! :o

i personally think its a fab idea!!!! yeah, the cracker/cookie/grawnola idea is good because its dehydrated and can last. i mean, when i make raw crackers they last weeks!

when can we do it guys?!

As soon as we get enough people! lol I was thinking people could either send prepared foods or just some fruits or whatever since some people don't eat prepared foods and some people just aren't good at uncooking (points to self  lol)... Is this ok with everybody who would want to do it thus far? I guess we would all just put a little wish list but of course people can send anything. Also, I have to get the ok from my mom first...and it would probably be a good idea for anyone else under 18 to get the ok first as well....that way there aren't any problems.

We should make a sign-up deadline and everyone who joined after that date is a part of it. And then I, or anyone else who would like to have the job, can randomly assign who sends to who. Then we'll post the list of who sends to who. yay this will be fun if we can do it! I've been thinking about it for a long time. Everyone should probably make a "wish list" and a list of things they are allergic to or don't like, etc. Right? Or am I just going overboard here? thanks!

yeah! way to go with the planning...i think we should put you in charge ;)

also, do u think that we could arrange it so that we send to someone in our own country? the cost of shipping and all is much easier that way. Like im in canada and id like to send to someone in canada...ppl in US can send int he US, Britian in Britian, etc etc...

Fairygirl,
that's definately a good idea! Good thing there are multiple brains contributing to this lol.

Tracey,
awesome :) thank you for the input. Did it turn out well?

Should we start a new thread that is something like sign up for the swap? And what should the deadline sign up date be?

I'd love to be included in this, but mine would have to be homemade as I live in Nashville and the only thing here RAW is broccoli :D Everything else is deep fried

Well Count me IN.. just send me the instructions and I'll do it.

When we send each other our creations, I think we should keep the packages small and affordable to send.

I also think the person should include their recipe and any tricks/tips for making it.

And I think we'd better do only dehydrated stuff so we don't get all moldy yucky stuff going through the mail

Cookies, and crackers, and breads, oh MY!

I won't poison you, I promise. Not deliberately anyway.

Does it have to be a creation by us or can it be something bought? I don't create anything that can be shipped, but I'd would love to participate.

MEETUP.COM

Is a good place to post get togethers and meeting specific to the RAW food lifestyle. Most of the meetups, that are food oriented, host month meetings with potlucks and recipe swaps. You may find some in your area or start one.

Just my two cents

Sorry I am getting in a little late on this but I want in as well, if that is still doable. Just let me know what to do from here on out. Thanks. This should be a blast, and how much fun it would be to get something in the mail that is not a bill. :p

as well as the food, there could be something like a 'raw food gadget' swap. 15$ or less - some nifty gadget or whatever helpful thing.

it could be a wishlist type theme or recipe theme, favorite fruit/veggie/nut/etc. theme, a color theme. it's endless, i think.

Oh! I meant to post here earlier. I made a sign up post that would hopefully keep it simple and easy. I requested that people only post their names, location, preferences so that whoever is going to designate who sends to whom can have a list without having to wade through posts. I hope I didn't step on anyone's toes, but thought that it would be a good way to get the ball rolling...

The post is here:

I think you should decide when to close the sign up since it was your idea! :)

It should probably be bumped a few more times so that anyone who wants to can see it... dunno.

Oh pooey :(

You have to take me off the list because I will be travelling to NZ and OZ at the end of the month. If it goes well, maybe we can do another one in the summer, because Id love to be a part of the swap!

fairygirl

Lunar,

im leaving on the 27th of this month. I guess maybe i could do it if i swap with someone in NZ or OZ, that would work too. But otherwise, Ill be gone until July and there wouldnt be much point in someone sending to me since i wont be here :(
