I live in northern NY and have been raw since August, 2005. I am flying to Phoenix (staying in Scottsdale at the Marriot with no transportation?) in two weeks for the marathon. I am stressing over being able to get the food I NEED for the week end once I'm there.....sooooooooooooo, I am looking for advice from any of you that are local. Is there a decently priced store where I will be able to walk to get fresh produce, raw Kombucha ("Synergy"), etc.....I can't really pack what I need other than a few organic food bars. I will mainly need/want bananas, apples, citrus fruits, and ???? I am perplexed because I normally juice and have smoothies in the a.m. The past two times I have gone away to a race I have gone without due to not having accessibility and my performance has suffered...I would love to be able to find a juicing restaurant/somewhere that caters to raw food....any suggestions are welcome and appreciated. BTW, are any of you doing the race? I would love to meet fellow raw runners while there! (Since there are NONE HERE!!!!!) Thank you!

You may google for raw restaurants Phoenix. There may be raw groups there too. Check livingfoods.com Dave Klein site I believe as he has lists of groups. There has to be something up there.
May also try this link although it may not be near you, but they know of places not listed.

I have a coop link you try:

Saw Phoenix there too.
Perhaps Whole Foods, pricey, may be there, but then the person in the nutrition area you may be able to call while you haven't gone there yet.
Also you may be able to store stuff in hotel refrigerator or in room. Hope this helps.
Best to you on the run.

I live in the west valley and don't get over to Scottsdale often. We have some Whole Foods stores as well as Henry's (who sell some Whole Foods products) and Sprouts which are similar and I am sure that some are in the Scottsdale area. There is also a very high end supermarket called AJ's Fine Foods that probably has some items. Wether or not these are in walking distance of your hotel I do not know. I would recommend calling the service desk of the hotel and give the above listed names and ask the distance. Also out here alot of people talk about the term "blocks" in terms of 1 mile increments because that is the grid system that the cities were built on. So if they say the store is 3 blocks from the hotel you need to ask if they mean 3 miles or 3 little blocks. Sadly Arizonans have never been into walking much as for at least 1/2 the year the sun is simply too severe as well as if they see you walking they assume that you are homeless or carless and ask if you want a ride. Downtown Scottsdale and Tempe have areas that encourage walking.

Thank you all! I have been mapping out the various places from the hotel. Of course it looks EASY on a map....When I get there I'll probably be so overwhelmed! But I'll try! AJ's is just 2.6 (yes 2.6!) miles away....a nice walk? Thanks again! Are any of you Arizonan's participating in the race weekend events? just curious if there will be other "RAW RUNNERS" besides me!

Yes, I have a raw runner friend who does this type of thing. I keep trying to get her to come to this board and meet you other raw runners. She is the only raw person that I actually know in person. Alas for me but yay for her - she is moving to Sedona - right now! But she has will be down here for the event I am sure although she has revised her self expectations after the Tucson race a few weeks ago.

I was just in Scottsdale for the weekend, it is very nice! There is a health store I saw, but didn't get the chance to go into, called, "Hi-Health", it was in a "Safeway" shopping plaza. HTH! I live about 30 miles outside of Tucson, anyone in the Tucson area??? Would love to meet any raw-fooders in my area.

Why has she had to revise her goals? I have noticed the last 2 marathons really wore me down but I am working hard to correct that! Is she staying with you for the event? I think I'll be ok finding produce...I just get freaked out! LOL Thanks for all the help everyone!
