The other day my grandma gave me some greens from an asian market. I didn't know what they were. I had never had mustard greens, but after trying a couple bites plain I figured they might be. I kept tasting the greens and the flavor seemed really mild...even though I did a long banana search on a quest to see if mustard greens could be added to green smoothies.

I ended up trying it. I started by adding about four cups of the (apparently) mustard greens and it tasted fine so I figured "what the heck" and dumped in four more cups with the 5 biig bananas. OMG this is definately clearing out my sinuses.

The problem is that I made a whole blender full and this stuff is near impossible to drink. If I waste it I may not have enough food to eat until my mom will go shopping again :(. I don't know what to do! The weird thing is I have had a terrible soar throat and some sinuses....welll this smoothie is clearing them right on out. Any way does anyone know any way I could make the smoothie a bit more drinkable without getting sick? I know that is so bad to do but...what else can I do??

I would put half in the freezer, and dilute the rest.

Here are some things you could dilute it with -

Bananas
When I make kale smoothies I use about 4 cups with 4 bananas. You used 8 cups of mustard greens so I'd suggest adding 4 more bananas.

Pineapple -
I find if I blend watercress or rocket with banana, the smoothie is peppery and stings, but with pineapple it isn't at all, and doesn't burn my mouth. It's really easy to drink. So Pineapple would be great. I don't know how pineapple combines with banana though - it might taste funny.

Savoury
You could make a vegetable soup out of it. Add avocado, coconut, nuts, to make it creamy, and dampen the spice. When I was little my mum always used to add coconut cream to my cooked currys and said that was the best thing to stop it burning - I don't know if that's true. I read recently that if you burn your mouth with chillie or curry, drinking water will make it worse, but eating something creamy like yogurt will soothe it. So I started eating avocado smoothie and it really worked!
To make the soup taste good, add some other veg - celery, tomatoes, carrot etc, and salt and pepper and cumin.
Normally I'd say add garlic and onion but thats probably not a good idea in this case.

You could divide your smoothie into portions and try all these ideas, and anyone elses ideas - and that way you'd get more of it down you by trying them all. Its easier to eat small portions of different things, than a huge serving of one thing.

I was going to suggest the same as Bobbie. Break it up into 4 servings or so, store the unused part and make more by adding a bunch of sweet fruit to a part of it. Orange juice would work well too.

I've done smoothies with dates ... divide up what you have left (like the others have suggested) and then experiment with it ... I've heard some people say they've added honey, agave, etc. It can be salvaged!

Thank you for all of your wonderful ideas...I drank down half the blenderful and then left the rest in a tall cup in the refridgerator and my mom woke up and must have thrown it out without knowing! Not that I mind it being gone...its just that I really hate to waste all that when it could have been enjoyed in other ways :(

thank you again, I'll remember you;re suggestions if anything like this occurs again.
