Hi,
My partner has started a water fast to heal a sugar binge drive. She eating raw almost 5 years ago to deal with some serious health problems that have since healed. However, she got a lot of negative comments about her weight loss (from 130 to 105 pounds, at 5'2", a normal weight, but SAD eaters are easily threatened) and started over eating on fruit to gain weight. Soon after she developed a drive to constantly overeat, especially high sugar food- eating lots of bananas and dates, eventually sweet cooked food- but also veggies, sprouted legumes, raw nuts and seeds.
Having looked into various possible health issues, possible nutritional deficiencies, etc, details which I won't go into, she knows she needs to fast to correct her blood sugar balance, but she gets intimidated by negative comments about fasting from most people, negative comments about raw food from some water fast center staff, and scared by waves of energy depletion.
She would like to be able to talk to people on the phone for support during her fast. If you are willing to be a telephone support person and can be positive about the folowing issues:
long-term water fast (10-20 days)
raw food diet based on leafy green veggies, some sprouted legumes and soaked seeds, but NO FRUIT I'd greatly appreciate it if you would email your telephone number to hjkobek@yahoo.com.
Thanks,
Chickory

I think before emailing one's phone number and even email to strangers, one SHOULD get some more information PLUS, this SHOULD be a win-win situation. What will the person doing the support be receiving in return? I'm not necessarily talking money here yet, it should be an equal energy exchange. What are YOU offering in exchange?

My suggestion ~ get to know each other a bit first and then YOU email YOUR phone number and other pertinent information to the person doing the support. Then that person will decide if it's better to call you ~ collect ~ and then, after the first call, give up their number if they so wish.

This IS the internet. You could be any kind of unkown quantity here.

Hi Chickory... Welcome to this site

Just a thought regarding your partner. It may be helpful to have more information regarding fasting. There is a thread, Fasting Support, that has quite a few links about fasting. If you click on the first page, first post you'll see it. That may help her on this journey.

Also, she may find that it gets easier after the first 3-5 days of water fasting. Has she fasted before? Sometimes it takes time... to adjust to fasting physically and emotionally. Doing shorter fasts can also be beneficial to start with.

If she decides to go for a longer fast right now... several fasters are starting on Jan 1st... see fasting thread, A fast to begin 2007. A group of fasters will be supporting each other for an extended fast. Posting here can be very positive in succeeding with fasting. That may be enough to help her during her fast.

All the best to you and your partner...

I'm a neo-Luddite

Computers are unhealthy both physically and mentally

I don't have a computer at home- I go to libraries to use them when necessary and try to keep my use to a minimum

emailing is impersonal

Dependance on virtual "communities" is destructive

Sorry I tried to get some human response from such an inhuman medium

Well, that gives us some information. So was Theodore Kaczynski, but I wouldn't assume one is like him just because of a lable.

Computers are unhealthy both physically and mentally

The physical I'll give you (maybe); the mental, depends on who's using it and how it's being used ~ same as any tool.

emailing is impersonal Again, depends on what is said, who's saying it. Letter writing is impersonal also but we like receiving those as well as consciously written emails.

Dependance on virtual "communities" is destructive
Yet, you came here depending on a virtual "community" to support you without knowing anything about you and you have created and are continuing to create what you put out. How interesting.

Sorry I tried to get some human response from such an inhuman medium

Actually, as both of us are human, you've received quite human responses. Which did you choose to focus on?

Revvell... You are quick-witted and have so much knowledge. You'd do great in any situation. :p

(Chickory... I bet the library you go to has a variety of information on fasting.)

It sounds like your friend needs a professional consult. There are many raw and fasting consultants available for this. If she's looking at health issues this would be her best bet. I don't know that I'd fool around with casual advice about something so important and immediate.

I also would be more than happy to offer support and I don't expect anything in return--money or otherwise-- the positive energy exchange of knowing I am being a support to another human being and them being a support to me is enough.

I am starting a month long fast tomorrow (EEE-GADS!, so close!!!!!!) I am scared and a bit intimidated but excited as well!!!

I will email you.

Raw blessings to you,
Kirsten

Wonderful of you both to offer support to Chickory. It can be a challenge if not connected regularly to a computer.
Fasting can be such a healing and freeing process... and support can make such a difference in the journey.

I just did a long fast and found it became easier as I went along. If you focus on getting past the first 5-6 days... you may find it getting easier too. I loved how light and energized I felt much of the time. Occasionally, I was tired... little lulls of weariness... but meditating, a hot cup of tea, getting lots of extra sunshine, an aromatherapy bath (few drops of orange essential oil is energizing or you can mix more into epsom salts and use mixture), and a quick 20 min energy nap kept me going with ease. Drinking hot steaming tea didn't disrupt my fasting... it was a positive... especially for fasting in the winter.

Oh, skin brushing is a great thing to do... especially when fasting. There are also detoxing baths that can assist the body. If you go to the Fasting Support thread... 1st page, 1st post... and scroll down... you'll see information on a detox bath recipe and how to body brush if it is new to you.

Wishing you all positive fasts... and a bright, blessed new year! :p

Thanks Star1919 for all the positive suggestions. I am certain I will be putting many of them into practice during my fast--- starting tomorrow!!

What kind of hot tea did you drink? I love hot drinks! How long did you fast? How long was it water, juices, smoothies, apples, etc? How has your raw eating been since the fast? So many ???????'s!

Chickory- I tried to email you but it came back to me-- Delivery failed. I used the yahoo address you gave. Is there another I can use instead?

Hi Rawnpawgirl... I started my fast on Nov. 6th and began to transition out of it on Dec. 11th. I am still in the process of transitioning. Speaking of which... it is recommended to transition slowly out of a fast... to take 1 day in transition for every 2 days of fasting. There is more information about 'how to break a fast' on the Fasting Support thread, at the bottom of the 1st post, on the 1st page.

I drink green tea mixed with various herbal teas... green tea is so good for us but, the flavor isn't that great... so I mix them. For me, I just choose favorite Celestial Seasons and other brands. There are fasting teas, but I didn't find them to be more beneficial than other teas.

Oh, I did a water fast. If I can be of help with supporting your fast just 'flag my attention' with a post on the Fasting Support thread. For me, most of fasting has been trying various things. I find that each fast is different, but that overall it has gotten easier the more I've fasted. It is valuable to 'listen' to your body for what is best for you and how you're feeling.

A positive fast for you... and here's to a great 2007! :D
