OK
Once again I am joining an exercise thread.
30 mins a day starting tomorrow. I will keep a record.
Ok I am reluctant (since I failed so miserably during the holidays) but I know I need to be here. Since the first is on a Monday, will weighins be on Monday as well?

LOL. I just got done reading your message to me in another thread about joining your group and I look at this thread and the first line caught me off guard for a second. "Ohmigosh, this is one of THOSE running groups"!!!
But then I read on................
Count me in. Although I have to say I do take off some days but I always do walking or yoga or something on the days off. This is because I tend to spend 2 hours or so on my training days.
Where do we track our progress at????

Hi Everyone- I'm Stina from the coast of Oregon. I'm out of shape and really aiming to go High Raw and exercising on a daily basis. I'm reaching out and introducing myself. I love this website and how lovingly inspiring it is. It's so great to be able to do this with so much support and also a way to hold myself accountable, so expect me to be popping up on the exercise forums a lot. Love you all!

Welcome aboard! Dust off your sneaks and get ready to sweat! Better yet, go BUY some brand new duds and then you'll really FEEEEL ready to work out. If you're out of shape start by just getting out for a 30 minute walk and build from there! Or get some exercise DVD's....although I have found getting out the door to exercise tends to become a habit easier than anything else....
Good luck! Stay raw! and Get movin' ;) You can do it! We all can!

Hello,
I'm new to the site and would like to join you all. My goal is to lose 15lbs by the end of January. I will do 30 minutes of walking with the folks at my office. They are starting a walking group for lunch times. I will also probably incorporate some aerobics in there 2 times a week.
Kind Regards,

Or both, in case i cannot do running (I can only leave the house alone early in the morning and my three kids do keep me awake at nights, so lets say I have a rough night and can't hit the road early, I can stay home and do a DVD instead?)

Don't forget me!
I'm back -- and you already know I'm one of those week day only exercisers. But there is room for imporvement -- just no promises.
I pigged out last week on all kinds of forbidden food and I am paying the price for it! I will post my weight, and I will not be happy about it! But, I'll do that tomorrowing after my naked morning weigh in.
Goals: Rebound 30 minutes in the morning (first thing!)
Bicycle 30 minutes in the evening (last thing!)
Balance Ball Routine several times a week (just ordered a new book).
100% RAW RAW RAW, so I'll look good in the RAW!
Bible time daily! Be good to me daily! Report daily!
Now I hope I didn't bite off more than I can chew. I really want to get in shape and start eating right again. Can't believe I screwed up so well. Oh well, tomorrow is a new beginning! AND no more chocolate!

Join 'em both ;) That's what I am doing...This one is for exercising and keeping each other motivated...the running one will be the same but we can ask/share with each other running tips/problems, etc.... I don't necessarily run EVERYDAY either, like today. My best friend have this traditional 10k WALK that we do every New Year's....for the past several years....it's like the one time we can "catch up" uninterrupted...I wish I could convince her to run with me and leave her SAD lifestyle behind, but so far, not happening :( and she has health issues....but maybe I'll convince her this time around. I try to lead by example! That's my 2007 advice!

ok, running day is tomorrow morning, today I did a bit of jumping rope - 2 minutes, not continuus, lol! and a 40 minute aerobics DVD.
100% raw too! A good day, apart from the fact that I went to buy new running shoes and the staff totally ignored me and showed me some junior size shoes (I have a smallish foot), that were all pink, yikes. And they didn't ask me anything about pronation etc. They were a bunch of teenages, what do you expect. So I left the shop.
I need to go to another town if I want to find a specialist shop, must do..
Are we supposed to post here daily?
Thank you.

Yeah! Join, join, join.
I have done pilates a few times at the gym. I found it worked well. It's about working the core muscle groups. I found it hurt my stomach a lot- mainly because my stomach muscles and neck muscles are weak. The main reason I don't do it now is only because I have so many other things I concentrate on.
One thing though- make sure you add cardio to your mix. That way, you will lose some of the weight enough to reveal your sculpted body underneath.

If you go to the "shoe dog" on the runner's world site it will help you choose a properly fitted shoe. I LOVE Asics and always get the latest update on the 2100 series. I buy 2 pair at a time also because they last longer when you alternate them!
Yes, post every time you exercise which will be most days!

OK, I will not be bummed....I decided to cut back a loop during my weekday runs and run on Fridays too (I usually walk) to = 40 miles before my Saturday long run....I THOUGHT each "loop" of my village was 2 miles even....turns out its 1.8 !!!! which means I THOUGHT I had run 8 miles but apparently it was only 7.2 so I guess I'll shoot for 5 loops so I get 9 miles a day in! However, I CANNOT complain about our balmy weather! I am loving it outdoors and it's a good thing since my treadmill is "down" right now (too much wear and tear! The floorboard has to get replaced!) Happy exercising!

I'm ready to get back to it and lose some of this weight that will NOT come off with raw eating alone. My body needs to MOVE!

Just finished a green smoothie for breakfast (after exercise). Hopefully it will give me a little 'umph' to get up and get moving again!
Still didn't get evening bicycle exercise done, but I'm okay with that. . . I'll get there someday, until then, I'll dream. Also managed to take off a few more ounces. Amazing what doing without SAD does for my weight OR maybe I should say, "amazing what it did to my weight!"

Hi Everyone & Happy 2007!!!!!
Hope you are all enjoying the new year, so far, and all of the wonderful possibilities it can bring for renewed health & happiness!
My exercises yesterday:
morning:
rebounder for 60 minutes
floor exercises (sit-ups, lunges, leg lifts, etc.)
evening:
floor exercises again (same as above)
weights
So far today, I have done my morning rebounding and floor exercises. Wanted to take the kids out today for a nature walk around our property but when I ran outside to get my watermelon out of the garage fridge (for lunch), I realized it's toooooo cold for that so I may end doing my rebounder again this evening.
Keep up the good work everyone!
P.S. I am thinking about joing "Curves". I worked out there for about a month (four years ago) and I enjoyed it and actually saw results in that short of time. However, I have always wondered if the constant back and forth of aerobic activity and strength training is good for your body or not. Anyone else have any thoughts on this???
Naturallynice

Jan 3rd.
20' circuit training
20' body conditioning with abd work, free weights and a great looong stretching session.
100% raw for three days in a row!
I felt a bit lightheaded in the morning and on the onset of a headache, I had some walnuts with honey - the honey did the trick! For the last two days I didn't have anything sweet except of a handful of raisins and fruits ofcourse - and I have a terrible sweet tooth. I think I needed the honey today, although I wasn't craving it.
Tomorrow is a running day.
And a question: Until now I only manage to eat less than a 1000 calories. I struggled to finish my salad at lunch and I clocked up almost 1000 because I had nut butter (1 TBsp) and some walnuts. I feel so full...
As I am overweight, I don't mind the weight loss (I lost a kg already!!, that's 2 lbs) but they say I shouldn't let my body get into starvation mode, right?
Any advice? Should I top up the kcals a bit, say 1200? Or continue below 1000? My energy levels are fine. Just a bit of a headache (sure detoxing symptom).
Thanks

However, I have always wondered if the constant back and forth of aerobic activity and strength training is good for your body or not. Anyone else have any thoughts on this???
I am not familiar with Curves, do you mean that they alternate aerobic with strenght training?
If so, isn't that called interval training and it is supposed to be very good? Aerobic activity raises your heart rate - you burn fat, and then strenght training gives you a chance to recover while toning the body?
I did a DVD on circuit training today (designed for men, I did it so I can lure my hubby into it) and the concept was very similar. A bit of jumping around and then free weights, a little bit more jumping and then abd work, etc...
By all means, I am not an expert, hope some of the old hands correct me if I am wrong.
Esther
Ok - I just got done with my yoga bootie ballet tape. This week with the holiday has thrown me off and then spent all my time yesterday before work writing out all the bills. I am tired as I only got 4 1/2 hours of sleep last night (had to work and didn't get home till 4:00 a.m.) and then had to work at my daughters preschool all morning. But I am now back on track. I did 50 minutes of my yoga bootie ballet tape and I feel good, but now so relaxed I could fall asleep right now. So I am off to take a shower. I have to work early a.m. tomorrow so I need to get in bed soon. I plan on hitting the gym on the way home from work tomorrow.

Thank you for the link. I joined yesterday and it is really helping me put things in my life into perspective. Great way to reflect!
My 10 year old daughter wants to "work out" 30 minutes a day for her NY resolution (+ eat more raw :D she's so cute!) so I keep forgetting to post that extra 30 minutes we do. On Tuesday we walked, yesterday we worked out in my exercise room. I rode my recumbent bike while she did the gazelle! I think today we will walk again. I probably should lift weights too but there is just not enough time in the day!!! Plus, if you know how I spend my day you'd understand that it's probably not necessary....Let's uh, just say I do a lot of lifting, carrying, and "holding" in my job! ;) 5-7 year olds are high energy so I probably get an extra work out in too! At any rate, I am loving this and the runraw2007 thread! Let's keep it going ALL YEAR!

:D ((LOL))...Well, I only need about 5 hours a night when I stay 100% raw which is my 2007 to life plan! Once in awhile I hit bottom and need to crash and burn/recharge/reboot but that's usually due to stress not activity!!! You are too funny! The more active I am the less tired I am if that makes any sense!
The kids and I at school plyed outside for awhile today + I walked with 3 of my kids after school for 30 minutes. Alex (age 10) wants to work out 30 minutes a day and eat "more raw".... wonder where she gets that from? Have a great day!

AND YOU????????? [/
Welcome aboard!!!!
This is my first time to this site and already I'm hooked! I just relocated to Northern VA from Boulder, CO and I'd love to have some sense of community since the East Coast is still so new to me. The inspirational stories and encouraging remarks in these posts are awesome. I'm looking forward to the 2007 challenge with ya'all. I'm new to RAW, but my sister and brother-in-law have been on it for 3 months now and I've already seen such incredible changes in them that it really inspires me. For this year, I'd like to compete in a Figure/Model competition while being on a strictly RAW food diet. I did a couple competitions in 2005, but was on the high protein diet that RAWFIGURE spoke of and although I was lean, I didn't FEEL good and missed certain normal body functions... I definitely have some size to build and leaning out to do, but I really believe that if I'm dedicated to my workouts and maintain a healthy RAW diet that I can do just as well as I did before. Regardless, I'm looking forward to the journey and all the wonderful people to meet along the way!
PS- Has anyone read 'Raw Power' by Stephen Arling? It talks about body building on a raw food diet and I wanted to know if it was worth reading.

Welcome ! Thhis is a great site and thread to join.
That would be great to do a Show Raw. It would be a great testament for Raw. I agree doing it the Traditional Way leaves us feeling crappy in the long run !
I am toying, lightly, with the idea of doing a Fall Show...not sure if I want to jump back into it though. It has been nice being away from it ! :D
I did not read Raw Power but used "Thor Raw Power Protein Drink". I think you can get as much info here and other free site w/o buying his book. I find that if you eat RAW, work out and do cardio as you did prior to Raw you can acheive the same results ...simple and no book needed !

Jan 5, 2007 Day 5! Exercise done, increased by 5 minutes! :) Yea Me!
4 days of 100% raw down! :) :) Double Yea Me!
You know, I am in unbelief at my daily weight loss. Loving it, but supremely curious how long it can last.
Di, how does one go about measureing their fat? I thought that took a special instrument, one that was used on me years ago (too many years to count) at the beginning of my college swim class.
Keep up the good work everyone!

Way to go girl! Stay raw and you will continue to see great results!!!! As far as the body fat, I have a "Tanita" brand scale that does both weight and body fat when you hop on! Cool huh  although I would really like the newer athletic mode ones that also measure hydration + much more....but this is good for now! So glad everyone is doing so well! Keep up the good work my raw foodie friends!

I'd like to join too please! I've been fairly good this week:
Tuesday: 20 minutes elliptical
Thursday: 20 minutes elliptical
Friday: 30 minutes upper-body weights
Normally I turn the TV on while I workout, but I can't really see the TV over the machine so today I listened to Revells recent interview with Alissa and it was great! I think I'll start re-listening to the RawVeganRadio shows during my workouts too, it'll be inspiration and motivation and sweat all at the same time!

cut my "long run" short due to GETTING POURED ON!!!! + one son has a basketball game and the marathon is a week away so I am "supposed" to taper anyway right? I ran 12 miles as opposed to23...I'm glad I did since there was a blister beginning on my left baby toe once my feet got drenched....It is so frustrating to have my treadmill down! Now it is beautiful out 60 degrees in northern new york in January (how wild! )!
Today/tonight I am doing that "liver flush" I've heard so much about ((gulp)) I am determined to follow through with it so wish me luck! Tomorrow is a "rest day" from running in case I need the porcelain god a lot  Have a great day!

Di -- Good luck on you liver flush. I've done way too many for me to keep count. My advice: Elevate your head with an extra pillow (helps prevent nausea). And if this is your first, wear pants tomorrow that are easy (super easy) to undo. (Don't ask me how I know this. :o )
Enjoy the cleanse!
No exercise for me today. I'm lazy and take off for the weekend. Though I did spend the day running errands, while dodging snowflakes (big ones!). Does that count?
I stopped at the gym after work today as planned and did an hour workout:
30 minutes on the eliptical machine
10 minutes on the stationary bike
chest presses - 50 reps - at 60 pounds
inner thighs - 50 reps at 80 pounds
outerthights - 50 reps at 80 pounds
abdominal floor work
I'd like to join you fantastic people. Maybe if I'm accountable for my actions I'll exercise. Today I started rebounding again. I'll check in tomorrow!

I did a 30 minuet very relaxing walk, and streched prior to that.
All this week I need to do allot of cardio because the following week I start "Ti-quan-do" classes. I reaaly need to get in shape for that.
Well on the way out to go to church today, I told my 4 year old to go downstairs and put on her shoes. I come down to find that she threw up all over her dress, the stairs, and kitchen floor. It took me an hour to clean it all up. Since I have beeen focusing a huge amount of my freetime to this diet, forum, exercising (and believe me I don't have a lot of freetime), my house has severely suffered. I guess I won't be exercising today except for all the housework I will need to do. The bad news is I am extemely tired but now the whole floor needs to be washed. So today my exercise will consist of picking up after everyone else (so I can find the floor and counters), and putting away everyone's christmas presents so I can clean. Please pray for me (and the rest of the family) that I don't get sick as My mother in law got sick yesterday and gave it to my daughter today. I really can't afford to get sick cause if I don't work I don't get paid. Thanks

Morn, hope you all are ok now.
I had two days off, one I was tired, the other I wasn't home all day.
Yesterday though, I did double aerobics, body conditioning, free weigths, plus callanetics!
weight in this morning, and I am 2 kgs lighter!
Today I did aerobics in the morning and headed to the gym for my running in the evening. I couldn't believe how packed the gym was!! There was no treadmil available and I had to come back home before hubby went off to work, so I couldn't afford to wait, so I asked for a refund, came home and done another 40 mins of body conditioning, cardio, free weights. !!! 2nd workout today!!
Gym tomorrow for my running.
Esther
Thank you guys for your prayers. Just a quick check in. I have to go and clean the floor and do more laundry before I go to work. But wanted to let you know that I lost 2 more pounds (39 pounds total). Another week and hopefully I will bridge the 40 pound mark. I want to lose another 40 by the end of May (which is my birthday month). I hope I can do it. Anyway I had another wonderful present to wake up to. My daughter got sick again in her bed. So I had to strip the bed. Wash the wall, clean the carpet and her dolls, toys, etc. Not fun at all! I think it will actually be good to get out of this house tonight for work. It feels all germy. But so far so good (I am not sick yet). I haven't eaten anything yet today but I am going to get some green tea now. Maybe I will exercise at the gym on the way home if I get off at a decent time.

Di, the answer is, the roads near my home are too busy with traffic and I don't want to run on the pavement cause it is hard on the knees as it is made with concrete, correct?
on the other hand, we have some lovely country lanes here, but the truth is, I don't feel safe. I might be paranoid, but I don't feel safe so I won't enjoy running there on my own.
I have disscovered a running club and I plan to weane myself from the treadmill when I loose some weight and the days get longer. Most probably, I will find a running partner there. :)
The other reason why I prefer the gym is because it is easy and for now, I don't want to place many obstacles in front of me: rain, cold, darkness, etc, until I am hooked to running.
Hope that makes sense?
Good luck with packing, I feel for you.

bib#2453.....but I won't be up with the Kenyans! :D I'll be back with the midpackers just "doin' my own thing".....Faster times used to be important to me. Now I just appreciate that I run "because I can..." no record setting times here my friends....that's not what running is all about. See, people get hung up on the notion they should get better, and faster...They are the ones that burn out and don't stick with it. If you run for the fun of it like children do you'll enjoy it so much more! I have been running regularly since '99 now and aside from the broken femur (which had nothing to do with running) I have not been injured to the point where I had to stop running....so my advice to new runners is to enjoy yourself or you will not stay with it....I'm sure you veteran runners would agree.....oh yeah, one more thing... NEVER COMPARE YOURSELF TO ANYONE (ELITE) YOU READ ABOUT IN RUNNING MAGAZINES...Most of them run for a living....You guys all work full time, are parents/students, and run on top of all that! Whew, you are doing great so far! Keep it up....
Happy trails!

I've been taking things a little slow, but atleast I'm moving in the right direction! I did 25 minutes of interval training on the Step Master at Levels 7-10. That was alot harder than I remember it being!
Goals: 30 days 100% RAW starting 01/08/07 (no cheats)
Cardio: 5 days per week (running, cycling, yoga)
Lifting: 3 days per week
Question: Does anyone prepare RAW gourmet food? I love to cook (or un-cook) and I picked up a few books that have some amazing recipes in them. Do most of ya'all go simple RAW or prepare their food with a dehydrator and put in alot of prep time? Thanks,
BDraw

Hi! Missed me??? I haven't posted in 5 days, but I have been exercising. The scales are going down as fast as the first week I went back to 100% raw, in fact, I got one of those pounds back. But, I'm okay with that. I have been trampolining daily (weekdays!) for 35 minutes now. I've progressed 5 whole minutes! :)
Di -- have fun on you run! You make it sound enjoyable, though I have never enjoyed running, well, with the exception when I could outrun my kids and they didn't think I could.
Morn -- how's the family? Remember to keep washing your hands! I had to help an elderly friend with that nasty flu and was so worried I'd bring it home to my crew. I washed and washed my hands and thankfully the germs stayed there!
Little-luv -- gourmet food? not me, I do simple with an occasional fling in the dehydrator, as I get to cook for the family, so there isn't a lot of time or desire to prepare anything exoctic. But you do what you enjoy -- this is suppose to be for you! If you enjoy "cooking", then cook! Or maybe I should say "prepare to your heart's desire!"
I just got home from work a little bit early.
BDraw - thank you for asking. My daughter was better today. It was a 48 hour bug and so far no one else in our home has gotten it. And yes I have been washing my hands often, cleaning like a fiend, and spraying lots of lysol. But I believe the biggest thing that has helped has been the prayers. So thank you all who prayed for us!
NFrawRUNNER - I am routing for you! You may not be running to win but you are a huge winner in my book. It is amazing that you are running marathons! I hope someday to get back into good physical condition again. I do like the turtle also cause it signifies slow and steady progress and changes which is what I am doing. Little by little huh?
Well I have to get off to bed to get some rest! See you all tomorrow!

Learning to prepare raw foods is just like learning any new cuisine...It takes extra time when you are learning because it is all new....but it doesn't take longer than other types of "cooking"...It does however take planning....If you need to marinate, soak, sprout, or dehydrate anything it will obviously take time....I would suggest planning out your meals and maybe taking one or two days a week to "uncook" for the days ahead? I tend to keep it simple as I tend to go overboard on nuts, :( etc....so I avoid such recipes, I keep it simple, and once or twice a week I have something I've "prepared" ahead of time....But as you are just starting out raw eat the whole variety to awaken those God given taste buds for raw food! In time your body will tell you what to eat rather than the way we've all been conditioned to tell our bodies what we want....unfortunately SAD fare could also be called brainwash food as we have all been bombarded our entire lives with commercials and false "facts" about food and food groups.....eat RAW for awhile and I guarantee you'll see things in an entirely new perspective. The higher raw you can maintain, the less you'll have cravings! Sorry to be on a soapbox, I just feel very passionate about this and it's early a.m. so I tend to ramble before my work out...
Speaking of which, I feel like a person trying to decide whether or not to do the polar bear swim! It snowed last night and is 23 degrees! I worked out inside yesterday due to the wind and hail but really SHOULD hit the roads this a.m..........I have all the appropriate winter gear  ......BUT IT'S COOOOOOLD OUT THERE.......what to do.....better go on the porch and decide.....
to be continued...

I do post. People have told me that postage is not as bad as they expected. Actuallly, the website needs updating. Must do, must do.
Gourmet food? So far no, I don't, it is easier to grab an apple or fix a salad, although yesterday I felt inspired and made alfredo sauce with pine nuts - absolutely divine - and halva, with tahini, honey and carob powder. I must admit, all that heavy food didn't go down very well though, I felt headachy and lethargic in the evening.
It is great however, to have a good selection of recipes if you want to bring something other than salad to a potluck, or for a special occasion, as a birthday party.
Right, running again today, 5 mins running, 2 mins walking x 4, at 4m/h.
Then took the kids to the park, and played chase, plus I was running along with my daughter, helping her to learn to ride the bicycle without stabilisers.

What's the saying? If you can't hang with the big dogs, stay on the porch? Well, I hoofed it outside and ran my 8 miles this a.m. in 19 degrees!!!! BUT I LIKED IT! [[yes, I have issues :p ]]
I keep my diet simple too, especially right before a race.....right now I am panicking because I have never been to AZ and am all worried I won't be able to find fresh/organic fruit! And you cannot bring fruit into the state of AZ so packing a bit in my suitcase won't work....I hope the airport in Detroit has fruit when we switch or I guess I'll be in a forced fast that day :( too bad I have to worry about finding RAW FOOD I'm sure I could find 20 types of fast food  ...
Happy workouts friends!

Di - I just went to Arizona and I don't know where you will be staying but I know they have Whole Foods Grocery Stores there (one was in Scottsdale) so do a search on the internet cause they are really into health there. That is one reason it was so easy to eat out there. They also have Sweet Tomatoes there which is a restaurant with a HUGE SALAD Buffet. Anything you could ever want fresh for on top of a salad. I wish they had them in Michigan. And don't forget most grocery stores have some organic produce in them. I also visited a large health food store in TEMPE, AZ and got some stuff there. I packed some lara bars and some trail mix to take with me that I made up (I know not fresh but easily packable).
Best Wishes for a Wonderful trip. Now I am off to exercise!

Hi,
Can anyone recommend exercises for upper arms and inner thighs? My arms are kind of big and I want them to be more slim looking with a little definition. I worry that if I keep doing weights that they will just become bigger looking. Also, inside thighs need more toning, how does one work that area??
Thanks for any suggestions!!
Well I did get a chance to workout today (30 minutes of taebo, 10 minutes of abs) before all my running around.
Valerie - the key when you are working out with weights is using light weights but a lot of reps (that will tone your arms without making them large). I have a ton of exercises you could do for both your arms and inner thighs but it is really hard to describe in written form. Also you could use resistance bands as well for your arms if you want to decrease using weights. I would suggest you either buy or rent and exercise dvd at blockbuster. Also there are really inexpensive exercise dvds at walmart. Once you watch a few videos you can then take note of the exercises and do it on your own. I hope this helps a little.

Wow, I've been really enthusiastic about getting into a fitness program, and I feel great!....except for the pain! I jumped right in there and now my muscles are really aching, enough for me to make an appointment with my acupuncturist, plus I'm driving quite a distance to get to a Bikram yoga studio so I can learn to stretch myself out. But I did line up three exercise buddies locally to work out with, and I trust I'll keep the momentum going. Ouch, though, seriously.

So, I have been exercising at least 30 min. but not as great a workout as I would have liked. For instance, some days I didn't do the cardio my body needs. I may have walked and lugged around a 2 year old girl for 30 min. but it wasn't the standard weight-loss/building muscle workout for me. So, I have been reading but avoiding this thread. :(
BUT.....I went to the gym yesterday after work and did weights and 1/2 hour run on the treadmill (up hills). I noticed it was snowing/very icy and so I ran outside to my car. I only live 5 min. from the gym. But it took me 2 1/2 hours to get home!!! All because I stopped first to workout at the gym....hmm...I'm dedicated... :D
I had to work today, but it was a light day so I got a chance to run over to the Good Food Store and Whole Foods. I also stopped in at the health club on the way home and worked out for an hour (I did 35 minutes on the eliptical machine, 10 minutes on the stationary bike, ab work, chest presses, inner and outer thighs). Next I have a mandatory monthly meeting at my daughter's preschool. A full day but I feel good after exercising

I am about to finish packing and leaving first thing in the a.m. so I'll post back after my return Mon./Tues.....prayers welcome for runner #2453 on Sunday from 7:40 (9:40 EST) on....it'll take me about 4 1/2 hours or so....I will stay 100% raw and "spread the word!" 35 minutes on the rebounder.
How to make it more interesting. . .
-- good active music, turned loud (jump to the beat)
-- vary the jump, do 100 of this step, then 100 of that step (use your imagination)
-- use your arms, up and down, boxing movements, claping front and back
-- twist to the right, twist to the left, moving arms opposite direction.
-- dance!
-- pretend you are jumping a rope
-- put on an exciting movie, with great music
-- repeat all of above
Have fun!

Goodness, I couldn't recommend Bikram yoga more! Now, if I go to the gym and do aerobics, I get the burn, you know what burn I mean, and the next day I'm sore. I go to the Bikram yoga studio, get that burn, and walk out feeling great and the next day as well. My friend commented that fifteen bucks is a lot for a workout, but my spine feels better walking out of there then fifty dollars for acupuncture, so it's actually a good deal. I clean houses for a living which is kinda hard on my back, and my body just screams for intense yoga to counterbalance it. Also, the 104 degree studio for yoga is just amazing for sweating out toxins. What a blessing in my life!

You don't need to exercise! You're getting it with all the moving you are doing....so when do I get to hear the band? What type of music do they jam to? Bet he's psyched to get goin' again...and how about your gym....Is it set up yet? Of course, we're back to a real winter now too so I guess you have been battling the elements too right? It's pretty outside today but only 13 degrees so yes (feeling shamed) I did work out today....I can't rest too long or I turn into a word I shouldn't say here :o I walked and gradually jogged and ran for a couple of hours on the treadmill and feel BETTER now...I think it loosened up the tight muscles surrounding my sternum that were so sore from the injury plus stess and tension....It made me learn to breathe properly too with the good ol' belly breathing....It hurts mainly to reach for things or lift things so running didn't seem to agravate anything....Hope all is well with everyone else this week end!

Welcome aboard...or should I say a-BORED....I too put in 11 miles on the ol' TM today for the same reasons......cccooolllddddddd! Come out of hiding? Do you mean you're embarrassed to tell people about your "raw" lifestyle? If so, I was like that for awhile too....My friends and family just thought it was my "latest craze" so I downplayed it.....Once I overcame some serious health issues I "came out of the raw cupboard" and validated ( and still do) whenever questioned. Most people are just curious and admire the glow you radiate from your raw sole....Most people do however think it is radical....which is odd since those same people pop Rx pills or succumb to surgery, etc.....oxymoron as to who is radical, eh?
Anyway, my chest is still quite tender but does not bother me when I run? It actually loosens up.....It's when I lift, turn quickly, or reach for something that I "remember" the pain....I am off work for 2 more days and then hopefully will feel better....what a twist of fate for me.
It does feel good to run again though!

OK, so I am attempting a few day + fast here for the first time (gulp) since my old health issues have been returning inexplicably....maybe a wave of detox but at any rate I feel ready (although intimidated) to start this challenge and continue to exercise too...Wish me luck...Today I put in 11+ miles on the treadmill...I'm still "off work" until Wednesday so hopefully being able to lay low, get extra rest and not rush my workout I will be able to fast successfully and do a 2nd liver flush this week end...My tummy is distended lately which is a big concern...Here's to hoping I'll get back on track ( I have stayed 100% raw too so it's not like I feel bad from a slip up???) The only thing I can think of that may have thrown me off is the fact that when I got hurt Thursday I started taking ibuprofen 3x daily for a few days??? Hi,
Does anybody remember me?? It's been three weeks since I posted a note.
I haven't forgotten about any of you. How great it is that there are many new people that joined in 2007.
Sorry January is almost over and I'm finally getting around to my first post for the month, BUT, don't worry, I've been doing very well... and it seems as though everyone is keeping up their fitness regimens as well... good job!
To my sister Valerie (HealthyRawLife), you are so sweet to write the last message on the Holiday Hoopla thread last month. (To everyone: feel free to go back and read her last post.) I love that God worked through you to get me to live my life better than I ever have before. I enjoy the long talks about our successes (major weight losses) and our trials (overcoming food temptations on both our December birthdays and also on the holidays) on this journey. It's so fun to laugh and to talk about our goals and every last ounce that our scales read. I'm glad you inspired me to begin this new lifestyle. Thanks, Vool.
Well, I just wanted you all to know that I did not fall of the face of the earth and don't worry, I will post again when you least expect it... :)
Next week I will reveal my January results... I think you all might be very proud of me... as I keep "Goin' Down"!!
Bye for now ~ Jennifer

Di, You know I am with you on the Fasting, some are "good" at it..me you...we need help in that dept. SO I am not even going to think about Fasting for now.
My thought is you have really taxed your body with the races and running. I am thinking you need some rest. I know this is a hard one to swallow but even World Class Athletes take several weeks off each year for healing time. I know when I competed and taxed my body I would get way out of wack in the Gut after awhile.
I would maybe even skip the Liver Cleanse for awhile. Also why not just Mono Meals for a week or two ? And write down the food you ate and the belly reaction. I know for me Melon (all of them) Bloat me almost instantly. So maybe you will find one food that is bothering you ?

Just a thought .....
Wow, Leslie-Are you reading my mind? I thought/prayed long and hard yesterday/last night realizing that NOW is a time my body needs to HEAL not be obsessed about fasting/detoxing and ultimately failing and bingeing! Too many old issues resurface. So, for now I will take the advice of our forum fav. Alissa and JUST EAT RAW! :D I am tired out you are right. Today was my first day back and it was not a great day....so I am wiped out ! I will take it one day at a time....But thanks for the reality check....Funny, we have never met Miss L but YOU KNOW ME SO WELL!!!! I tell you though, yesterday was such a struggle for me emotionally with all of this I would have called you up on the phone....I journaled prayed and felt enlightened that "now is not the time" for fasting. I need to heal in other ways....Thank you Les, and everyone else....
I overslept this a.m. btw and only put in 6+ miles on the tm....but that's ok! I must have needed sleep more!

Sorry I haven't posted lately. Have been pretty busy but haven't forgotten about you all. Today I had to work and then I worked out and then went to a my friend's house to watch her husband (who has had several rounds of chemo). It went fairly well but at one point I ended up having to call her home cause I ended up having a situation and his speech is not clear and he can't really talk now. I am glad I finally got over there so she could have some time away. Also I know a lot of you are believers so if you could pray for him (Ernie) and my niece who just got diagnosed with Stage 4 inoperable cancer and her father (since she is his only child), I would appreciate it! Thanks
Today's Exercise - Hour and 10 minutes
10 minutes stairmaster
30 minutes eliptical machine
10 minutes stationary bike
chest presses
abdominal floor exercises
Yesterday's exercise - 35 minutes
25 minutes circuit training tape
10 minutes abs of steel

Morn-Thoughts and prayers for Ernie and niece (name?)...Diseases stink, don't they? Horrible. Take care of yourself too! ;) You are losing more and more weight, bet you're feeling great and turning heads now hah? :D Keep on keepin'on!
RF-Good luck with the "box workout".....maybe you could get in on the drilling for water action too and work those biceps.....and a posterboard reading house for sale around your neck and you could run a few miles around town? :D You know I'm thinkin' of ya! Good luck with everything this week end! Stay warm!
We have a severe wind chill and cold advisory....It's -11 with a -35 wind chill????? BBBBBrrrrrrrr, TG my TM is fixed!
I am soooo tired, can't wait to sleep in (till 5  maybe?) tomorrow or at least go to bed earlier tonight! My head is stuffy too with a sore throat! Great, I never get sick....better hit the echinacea!
May only walk this a.m. on the TM although running usually clears out any congestion I have?
Keep working out everyone and keep posting so you can stay motivated too. We should all be getting in 30-45 minutes a day.....Take time for you to do it, it only helps in other aspects of your life! Happy Ttails!
Thank you Rawfigure and NFrawrunner for your prayers...My niece's name is Melanie (she is 20 years old).
NFrawrunner - take care of that cold and get to bed early tonight (big fluffy comforters are the best when you don't feel good aren't they?)! It is snowing here in Michigan pretty good and all I want to do is be wrapped up in my comforter but I have so much to do.
Rawfigure - I hope everything goes well with the move and you are able to get your life back to a normal schedule soon. I have moved 3 times in 7 years and I know how painful it is. I still don't have everything unpacked from the last move and it has been 2 years. :(
If all goes well tonight, it will be our first night of ballroom lessons with my husband and I (We are one week late but she said I could register right before class so that is what I am planning). The classes are through New Baltimore's Parks and Recreation program so I don't know how good it will be but I figure it still will be fun doing something with just my husband and me. Also I love dancing, as it gets me moving, and I don't feel like I am exercising at all!

Happy sweating! It's a blamy 1 degrees now today! wohoo!
Last night's dance lesson was great! We danced for only an one hour but believe it or not I was able to work up a small sweat! My poor husband was so sore after class I had to give him leg massages. He said he would continue to take the classes but going forward I have to massage his legs every week afterward. We actually did pretty good (considering we missed the first week). We did the fox trot, waltz, and cha cha with variations. I was super excited after class about it. It is nice to do something different together and get exercise at the same time. Now we need to figure out how to get some of that classic music so we can practice together! :) I have been talking about doing this for years so it is finally great to get a chance to do it!

I know this is an exercise forum but I know many of you are christians and I need yor prayers. I just got home from work and wanted to update you guys who are praying. My neice who is 20 (who has the cancer) is now in intensive care. One of her cysts literally burst out of her, tonight they took her into surgery so they could put a permanent colostomy bag in her. They also found her hip was broken and if she recovers she will never be able to put weight on her lower extremities again. They left the tumor in her leg because it was so large. She had several tumors on her lungs and right now she is not breathing on her own and is on a ventilator. Over the next few days they are scheduling more surgery to go back and try to clean out more of the tissue. She is in a hospital on the other side of the state and I will be going there to be with my brother and his ex wife this weekend. I just hope she will make it till then. This whole thing is very serious (as they didn't even know if they were going to operate today, and if they couldn't they were going to just wait for her to die). She is in need of a miracle. I know God can do this if he so chooses. Please continue to pray for her. They have her heavily sedated and she will remain this way for the next several days. Because of all the stress in this situation, I was extremely tempted today to eat several things today off of my diet as I would have before, seeking comfort from food but I remained strong. It is funny how old habits are still so engrained in us that that is the first thing we think to do.

Morn, So sorry about your niece~sent her prayers and healing energy....asked angels to surround her, love and hold her in the light....all is well, GOD is with her, dear one....she is loved beyond measure.... :p
Count me in! I'm on day (7) 100% raw, intend to stay forever (this time), and am working out this way:
everyday doing the 5 Tibetans energy yoga (15 min), then:
2 days a week Turbojam kick boxing cardio workout
2 days a week "The Firm" cardio/weight workout
2 days a week yoga
thanks for giving me a place for accountability-it's really motivating!
I got a chance to work out at the gym today after work. I did 30 minutes on the eliptical machine, 20 minutes on the stationary bike and about 10 minutes doing abdominal floor exercises. I needed that big time as it was a temporary distraction to my temporary emotional trials I am going through about of my neice. The last few days have been huge hurdles and all I can say is God is Good and is meeting everyone where they are at in this! But boy am I emotionally and physically drained! I need a fill up!
Thanks Theresaann for your prayers!

Well, that is one goal I tabled....but it's not out of the question.....While training, I broke my leg at the femoral neck (1/5/06) and now have a titanium rod, plate and 4 screws attached! (I am the bionic woman ;) )....I am back running of course (and was after 5/12 weeks  unofficially!) but have not been able to train (time wise) due to "life" demands + I am a little intimidated about falling in the bike leg of the race.....I may "overcome" that fear eventually but I have to ask myself if it's worth it to "snap" that bone at the base of the plate (which is possible) so I have stuck with running for now....I am actually interested in a possible "ultra" run.....????wanna join me :)

It'll ALL comeback to you....Your legs are just saying: we're here and we remember this feeling! It's more mental than anything but you will overcome! When I broke my leg last year (at the hip area) I went from 70 mile weeks to 0 in an instant......coming back was most difficult in the psychological department at first....but just resolve yourself to you can only do what you can only do. Sore legs are a good sign that you are using those muscles. Muscle has "memory" so look at the soreness as a good thing! Happy trails!

AAAHHHH! BLISS! :p
I just finished with my circuit training tape that has high and low aerobic movements and weights and then my abs of steel tape. I can't believe I am sweating more today from 30 minutes of exercise than the hour and a half from yesterdays exercises. Hum! I think I need to add on more time on the stairmaster cause that makes me sweat. Mentally it is hard though.
Tonight is my ballroom dance class with the hubby. I just went out and bought some ballroom/big band dance music so hopefully we can practice. So it will be another hour of exercise tonight of doing what I love. We will spend probably at least a half hour before class practicing though since we didn't do it together since last friday night and there were a lot of variations. I hope we can remember. :D
Now I am off to pick up my 4 year old from preschool. It feels good to exercise! I feel so great afterward. Thank you for letting me be a part of this forum and to NFrawrunner for starting and nurturing this thread! ;) It really does make a difference to me to have accountability.

So, dunno, I guess I am not a streaker anymore, but then again, I am listening to my body, I don't take days off because of lazyness. I suppose I have to give time to my body to adjust to the new regime, running outside for 30 mins is more challenging than the controlled environment of the treadmill...

Thanks for the enouragment!! :D I am more motivated now to get back out there. I set up a few fitness goals which helps me to get my butt in gear. But first starting over again is scary.

Good morning Morn, NN, and FY (and you too RF-I know you're "here" but busy with the move!)....I feel like we're sitting around in a big conversation here after rereading the past few threads! LOL....
Morn, yes I DO have an infared sauna in my home (as of Thursday) in part thanks to FY who talks of his frequently. So, hubby and I did the research on FAR Infared saunas and were SOLD! It's not as expensive as a luxury as you may think.
NN, the sauna IS one of the things I am "adding" to my regimine to "get even healthier." The other things are really things to help ME....A few years ago I was given a diagnosis of osteoporosis, and IBS, due in part from early menopause from ammenorea (did I spell that right?)....anyway...as the dominoes continued to fall (and I started "aging" too fast...I'll be 40 in April but internally was about 80 from age 36!)...... I converted to a raw food diet 8/05 and felt great!......but recently old "issues" started popping up again and I couldn't understand why????? I am 100% raw (aside from my morning cup of tea) and work out as you know, like crazy! So, I was stumped but hesitant to seek "medical" help....Well, after my recent "accident" at work my cause for alarm has greatly increased as I had x-rays done showing the "dent" in my chest and told my "bones are thin" and "weak"....blahblahblah.....It did however SCARE me into feeling that this is SOMETHING I REALLY need to address so I began my own research....Dr. ME is convinced that my problems can be traced back to a glandular issue which probably started this downward spiral to begin with!!!! (I lost 50 pounds rather quicly about 4-5 years ago....and not in the healthiest of ways...but that was "pre-raw"!)
MY diagnosis of MYSELF (and of course I am not a doctor----just the owner of this vessel!) is adrenal fatigue....I have been reading up on it and have many/most of the symptoms which I believe was the precursor of all the other issues that cropped up over the past few years.....That being said, I will honestly tell you that the past few weeks have been very challenging in my mind to not just give up on raw, start eating pizza, and go on premarin and fosomax like the "DOCTORS" would like me to do. Let's face it, I was SCARED and the facts are those are the things insurance covers right, right...We ALL know that! Well, thanks to my good cyber friend RawFigure and several e-mails with her (can't wait to meet you soon RF ;) ) I am RE-dedicated to taking control of my own health.....And all of you are partly responsible....If it weren't for these "threads" and being able to "talk" with like minded individuals I probably would be sound asleep right now, removed from the forum, and following a Rx regimine.....I am so thankful for this thread because (and I don't mean to sound boastful AT ALL) I feel a sense of "responsibility in a way as kind of a "coach" here and I LIKE THAT! (need it!) It has helped me "keep going" ...Sorry, NN for the loooooooooooong response to your simple question of what I am doing to get even healthier! Bet you didn't expect to read a short novel for a response!!! In a nutshell, I added a "One Daily whole foods" vitamin and mineral complex (but am taking 2 for now), calcium ionic fizz (4x daily=1,000mg), GOL Ultra probiotics, Alissa's digestive enzymes, and the topper which I hope will help me---an "adrenal support" supplement.....I started on Wednesday and (maybe it's psychological) I am "perking up" again! At any rate, we can only hope that WE know our own bodies the best and have the best intentions so I am reconvinced in my resolve to take control of my own health issues....I AM getting referred to an endocrinologist but HOPE she is open minded....we'll see!
Sorry I went on and on...I am up for a long run this a.m. of course indoors because we have waaaaay to much snow and are expecting MORE as we "speak".....Thanks for the thoughts everyone and have great workouts this week end....
Coaching tip of the day...As Morn has done with the ballroom dancing....Mix it up once in awhile and do something different! I am having a sledding party later today in my back yard with my class (yes, crazy lady that I am invited them all over to go sledding on a Saturday-it's the old age brain I have I guess---crazy)....But getting out and having fun with family and friends can be great exercise!!!!! Have fun with your family and friends...They're what's important in life and in the end all you have is your memories...go make some!

:D :D And Di you have been as much help to me as I you ! and others who post here to keep us motivated. :p
I moved to a High Raw 80 ish % maybe ? (still no meat, but did have some dairy) diet in past two months while stressed with moving and too busy to plan/prepare beyond fruit and some frozen green drinks. I ate alot of Veggie Soup, and whole grains, legumes from the HFS. All of my raw sprouting, dehydrating, packed and stored...So Di facing her issues (and writing back and forth) and me starting to have a few hypoglycemic episodes again, when I ate some Flax Cereal with Organic Lowfat Milk Wed Morning. I have been a yr with no shakes and racing heart on RAW! Then the Ocular Migranes too..??? hmmmmmmmm
SO I got all my Raw Equipment out of the Boxes, brought my supply of raw grains from freezer at the other house, got some Almond milk going, and plan to make some back up raw food for the freezer.
And into the GYM again. I am ahead of schedule. I thought March 1st to get back to daily..but today is the DAY YIPPEE...in fact off I go to work out and IR Sauna !
Thanks all for posting here and keeping us all accountable ! group hug.... ;)

Hey ladies, it's all about learning to listen to the body, we all have had alot of problems on "SAD" especially if you are older. My wife and I have been raw off and on over 5 years, it's all about tweeking your eating habits to fit your lifestyle now, we use supplements, herbs, meditation, chi gong, rest, quiet time, right thinking, and a lot of sleep to help us along our path. I'm 50 years young and most days feel like a teenager. It has gotten easier when we listen to our bodies, instead of listening to our minds, the mind will always take the easy way out. So don't feel alone in this journey to better health. I've had 9 surgeries in the years prior to eating raw, been there done that. We have a saying that we say in the morning when we get up. "I feel good, I feel fine, I feel this way all the time". We say it three times it really works. Gotta go. Forever young

"I feel good, I feel fine, I feel this way all the time". Sounds good FY!!! and I DO feel good! I ran 19 miles (ok 18.25 + walked to get to 19!!!) on the treadmill, stretched (and sweated) and skin loofahed in the sauna for 30 minutes and then a nice leisurely shower with lavender soap , scrub, lotion,etc... I feel refreshed and re-energized! We are snowed in again anyway so canceling my sledding party again!

Di, the lack of sleep can cause adrenal fatigue, what happens when we sleep, we go through 4 cyles every night it takes several hours to do this. If we don't get enough sleep our bodies will not recharge and eventually you will get rundown. Thats why children sleep so much they are recharging all night long. An if you have problems sleeping, or hot flashes, or peeing a lot and your not sleeping straight through then you don't get your batteries charged right, and the more you keep doing this something has got to give which is the body breaking down. FY, I am doomed then, I haven't slept properly for five years, man! My eldest will be five soon and she still wakes up some times, but I had 3 children in 4 years, so go figure about the quality of my sleep...
Di, I am happy you have such a positive attitude and have taken the bull by the horns, go girl, and hope that any health problems dissapear for ever!

Right on FY, age doesn't really bother any of us I don't think as we are all young at heart! I just baked in the sauna and took a nice epsom salt bath soak after..........feel like I've been to a spa....today is all about relaxing, taking FY's "advice" and resting more! You should be proud of me too I went to sleep around 8 last night and slept till 5 (would've slept longer but had to drive my daughter to work!).....I think my "adrenal support" supp's are beginning to do their job, my hands aren't freezing......We are getting more snow AGAIN!

Hi Di.. Take care of that hamstring please.
Hope you all are doing well. I am currently 9 weeks pregnant and my hormones are kicking my butt! I miss running. But so far..Just keeping up with walking daily! I am trying NOT to gain much weight this pregnancy sooo... we shall see. I actually hope to lose a few pounds or maintain my current weight! No gestational diabetes for me this time. Take care. Di, did the chiropractor help at all?
Dogmd, congratulations on your pregnancy!! You make me feel broody! Well, let me loose some weight, complete a marathon, and then, I might announce something!! Yes, daily walks are great, keep it up! How old are you other child(ren)?
No running for me as hubby is away, but I have a new challenge for me, doing the The 28 day Total Body Plan, by Joanna Hall, everyday for 28 days, while keeping my running 3 or more times a week. By the end of the month, I would like to see me running 5 days a week.
