I want to buy some raw coconut to mix in cookie recipes but I have never tried it. Does it taste much like anything similar to store bought shredded coconut?

No, not bitter. Hmmm. Well, tastes like ummm, hmph.. coconut as you've not tasted it before I'd say. lol Telling someone what something tastes like is like describing color to a blind man.

I'd say it's got a bland taste. O.k! Sort of like tofu ~ it'll take on the taste of whatever you blend it with.

Yes, raw unsweetened coconut does not resemble the shredded coconut we are all used to. But most of the recipes I have used have asked for both unsweetened shredded coconut AND coconut oil. Using the combo. of the two, I love the dessert recipes that result. Good luck!

This is your thread, so I thought I would throw this in there. ;)
I've been reading your blog and seen that you have been making more raw desserts lately. Also, you had bought a raw bar and was disapointed. Was that the Vega that you have a picture of on your blog? Because that brands takes A LOT of getting used to. I am still not used to that. I have some Vega around for serious althletic empowerment when needed. But it tastes nothing like chocolate or anything similar. I would try a different type of raw bar or make your own. Much sweeter which I think is what you are looking for.

Well, I'm thinking that's because it's so concentrated. Personally, I prefer a good brand of raw coconut oil to the coconut itself. Too much like work and I'm extremely lazy. :D

I love raw deserts. I can make them better than an actual meal. Since snacking is my main problem, I figure replacing that with the raw maybe might help me reach my goal to become 100% raw. :)
