I've never had an avacado before (or anything made with one), and the other day I bought one. It's pretty ripe, so I want to try and use it today so it doesn't go bad. I have no idea what to do with it! I've looked at some recipes, but I just don't know! Should I eat it plain? Put it in a recipe? Help an avacado virgin, please! haha :p

Try the raw vegan chocolate pudding on www.therawtable.com It is fabulous and you can use chocolate or carob powder.

I love avocados!
Plain they are an aquired taste and a lot of people don't like them at first, I didn't but now I adore them. So I suggest you try it in a recipe first.
I agree sweet puddings are divine. If you don't have cocoa or carob powder, berries are great. Every day I eat 150g blueberries blended with 2 bananas and 1 small or 1/2 large avocado. I also have one with strawberries or raspberries or apricots. I've just finished eating an apricot one.
I'm in the middle of eating a chocolate mousse pie, it's divine! http://www.welikeitraw.com/rawfood/2005/10/joels_carob_mou.html
I also love avocado in savoury ways -
a romaine leaf topped with avocado, chopped green onion and cherry tomatoes and another leaf (with or without cress/alfalfa)
avocado diced with crushed garlic
avocado chopped with green onions, cherry tomatoes, sweetcorn

the classic Guacamole is a great thing to try when starting out on avos. Mash your avocado up, add some fresh lemon juice, diced tomato, cilantro...and diced onion if u want. then dip in raw veggies/crackers! or spread it on a raw tortilla, roll up and eat.

Oh My GOSH...I think for the virgin you have to take it in it's natural "virgin" state. Just peel it and cube it and sprinkle with a bit of sea salt...YUM!!!

I love big chunks of avocado in a salad.
I love avocado just as it is with some sea salt or cubed in my salads. I haven't been very fond of many of the recipes that call for an avocado but that may be me not wanting to *waste* it in a recipe... they're so good plain! If you do decide on a recipe, I'd save just a little spoon full to try by itself. Eat 1/2 the spoonful plain then sprinkle just a tad bit of sea salt on the last 1/2. This way you get the best of everything!

I'm gonna try it plain with some sea salt! That sounds good (not that I have any idea what it will taste like lol) :) Thanks for all of the suggestions!!

Slice it like I-Wanna-Rawk's avatar, remove seed scoop and eat with spoon with or without sea salt sprinkled for flavor. Yummy :D

I had never eatten an avacado before trying to go raw and I hated it the first time I ate them. This last try at the begining of the years I started CRAVING them chunked up with some tomatoes and onions with some lemon juice and sea salt. I ate this almost everyday for lunch and dinner for a week and couldn't get enough.
I wish I had some to eat NOW!!!!

I went to cut open the avacado tonight and it was all brown and icky on the side. :( I was so looking forward to having it tonight too! I'll have to wait until my next grocery trip.

Oh that sucks, Amy! You were really looking forward to it. Maybe it got TOO ripe. I'm sure there will be other chances. ;)

I made lemon/lime pudding lastnight. This is the only way I've been able to enjoy avos thus far.
2 avos, 2-3 lemons or limes juiced, raw honey to taste, and a little water...put everything in the blender until smooth. SOOOOOOO YUMMY! :p
I'm eating some now that I had leftover from lastnight.
Everclear: I buy my avos unripe (hard to touch)...when I bring them home I put them in a brown paper bag with my semi unripe bananas let them sit in my pantry, wait about 2 days then voila! I have nice perfectly ripened avos (the avos skin will have darkened and they are softer to touch) and perfectly ripened bananas..the trick is to store them in the fridge after taking them out of the paper bag, this has kept the inside of the avos from browning. So when I'm ready to have some pudding I just grab a couple out of the fridge, peel, dice and pop in the blender..and that's it!

They are good sprinkled with lime juice and tossed in a salad.
