Hey Sheryl,
(its gymgal from your forum)
I cant wait to come and meet you when i travel Down Under :D Do u think we could "un-cook" together?! that would be so much fun!
Also, i was just wondering if u could tell me what fruits and veggies grow in Australia. I imagine almost everything, but ya never know. for example: young coconuts, dates, mangoes, papayas, pineapple, bananas ? I bet im going to be in heaven!!!!!!!!!

I would love to meet up when you come!!!
Depending on where you are you'll find different types of produce. The average store looks much like one in the USA (the main grocery stores are Coles and Woolworths). Maybe more items like dragonfruit and passionfruit than in North America.
If you look a little further though you'll find magic. There's a tropical fruit shop (northern NSW) that sells chocolate pudding fruit, ice cream beans, honey sapoty, red dakka bananas and more). They also do tours through their orchard which are so informative and fun (and they let you eat direct from the trees too).
There are also local coconuts, however Thai ones are cheaper so you have to look for local ones. We order from www.sunrisecoconuts.com - he will send me a sack of 20 husked mature wild coconuts for $35 AUD. What a deal. The taste and texture is 10x better than imported ones.
Some papaya trees here actually fruit 1000+ fruits a year. Imagine three papaya a day from a backyard tree? We're looking at property right now and cross your fingers will have one in the next few months with tropical fruit trees too!
Sent me an email when you're closer to coming and I'll give you an in season update!!!
Cheers,
Sheryl

http://www.capetrib.com.au/ also has a fruit tasting (they are north of Carins) however check the site for details as they seem to be closed a lot this year.
We look forward to seeing you in Brisbane! We're just a little south (an hour or so).
Whereever you are you can also order from Mission Beach coconuts from www.sunrisecoconuts.com (he'll ship a bag of 20 mature coconuts for about $35 depending on where you live. For the first time too I've ordered a larger bag of fresh off the tree young coconuts to drink. Mmmmm....

Sheryl,
I lived in Nelson Bay for a while (now in St. Louis Missouri)... sure miss the wonderful variety of fruits! Actually, I miss Oz totally!!! If I ever get back that way, I'll look you up.
