To my family, friends, raw friends, and acquaintances,
I did it.
I have managed to be 100% raw for one year. I really canÂ’t believe how quickly and effortless it was. Was I tempted? Yes. Twice. Once when my father took me out to eat to celebrate Day 100. We went to the neatest little restaurant called Chickee on the Beach in Naples. I love fish and the menu was incredible. The chef made me a tropical fruit & vegetable plate. I tasted fresh papaya for the first time and have been enjoying it since then. The second temptation came at home on Thanksgiving Day. I prepared the dinner, so the smells in the kitchen were memorable. But I was prepared. I began eating my raw dinner while I cooked, so I wouldnÂ’t be hungry when we sat down for dinner.
Slips?
When I celebrated 6 months raw, I put 6 cooked garbanzo beans on my salad at an organic salad bar. Also, I occasionally use nutritional yeast, too. I need that cheesy taste once in a while. I also had a restaurant-style French dressing/balsamic vinaigrette on my Christmas salad. I will have a cup of hot herbal tea occasionally. Other than that – 100%!

What would I do without my family? They pray for my health and raw journey and are my greatest motivators. I am a weak person, both physically and spiritually. Their prayers have strengthened me. IÂ’ve never accomplished anything of this magnitude.
And they buy me stuff! Like my own refrigerator, juicers, food processors, a dehydrator, gadgets, books, and food they dare me to try. IÂ’ve come to love uglifruit! Raw parsnips! Loquats, quince & pomegranates! Guava and Striped Tiger figs!
My friends encourage me. I am a part of the www.rawfoodtalk.com family. I have learned everything from them. They will give you nutritional advice and recipes. They will hold your hand when you feel weak and will be your cheerleaders when you need to be applauded.
I attend raw potlucks. This is the place to be to taste different recipes and interact. IÂ’ve met some really special people.
I correspond with distant family and friends online. Even my 5th grade students encourage me. I thank you all.
Accomplishments?
I feel better. I have bouts when IÂ’m too tired to move, but a year ago it was 24/7 tiredness, so I've greatly improved. I am still bald, but I have small patches trying to grow. Woot! My skin has cleared up. The sores on my arm are GONE! My cheeks are rosy. IÂ’ve lost 70 lbs. and I have gone down 5 dress sizes. I donÂ’t look pregnant anymore. Just that makes me feel better! I am off most of my medications. IÂ’m down from 12 to 4. I take my Synthroid, insulin, Lipitor, and Lexapro. (I hope to go off the last 2 soon.)
WhatÂ’s next?
I have been journaling my one-year raw journey. I am creating a scrapbook. It will include before-during-after pictures, favorite quotes, favorite raw recipes (like AlissaÂ’s Pesto Stuffed Mushrooms that I canÂ’t live without), and notes of encouragement from friends and family.
Year #2!
So, IÂ’m relaxing today with a pitcher of freshly squeezed grapefruit, tangelo, orange and tangerine juice. Poured over crushed ice in a fancy goblet.
I feel like a queen!
Thanks for encouraging me throughout the year. I love you all!
