View Full Version : What are the BEST cookbooks?
I am interested in trying to get one or more. I have to have them shipped to me here in Bulgaria, so I don't want to get one that is just "so so". I want a good, big one, full of practical recipes for my family.
TIA!

Alissa's Living on Live Food and her dvd's are the BEST! You MUST get them.

I don't have Alissa's dvd but I have the book. It was actually one of the last books I bought... I have about 10. It is now really the only book I use. The recipes are great and so yummy. There are tons of them too. The book is just HUGE (it will probably cost a pretty penny to ship to you... but trust... it's worth it!). If I could only choose one book to keep... it would be hers!

I love Raw Food Real World it is a really beautiful book with lots of pictures. Some of the recipies are complicated BUT they are all sooooo good and usually you can just eat one element from them- like the tomato sauce from the lasagna or the hummus from the pizza.
I also like Raw for one or two people because it has a lot of really simple ideas that I don't ever think of and they are all really good. Some of the other simple books are really boring.

The best one is the one you use. Not kidding as I own quite a few. Alissa's is really the one I reach for first. It is spilled on, creased, generally worn and well-loved. It is everyday and special; fancy and plain. I have made so many of the recipes so many times yet there are many that I have not made yet because I have not tired of the ones I simply love! Guess I should branch out more.
The first raw book I bought was Juliano's years ago. Made a couple of the recipes but seemed too foofy for me. Have tried other recipes in other books but end up back to Alissa's or using tried and true recipes from posts here.
What books do you have or are considering purchasing? Maybe could offer suggestions on those.
I don't have any at this point. The Uncookbook was recommended to me by an internet friend.
I wish I had considered raw while I was in the States, as I would have picked up a book or 2 then.
But I hope to have one really good one sent, so I am trying to find out which one is best. I need simple, practical, and 5 kid friendly---sort of more family recipes than gourmet. KWIM?

I would say Living on Live Food by Alissa (the recieps are easy), Rawvolution (again easy recipes-even older kids can do), and Baby Greens (ages birth-elementry age)
How big is Alyssa's book and Rawvolution?

Alissa's book is HUGE!!! I used to live in a small town. Alissa's book is about the same size as the county phone book we had there.
oh wow! Ok, maybe that's the one I'll try to get ahold of. Thanks.

The first books I bought were the Boutenko ones - really nice. But the one that got me hooked was Alissa's :) I also have Juliano's book, great pics and layot but I never do any recipes, they just look so complicated. But that's just me ;)
I have Corbett's book and I find it very useful for everyday and easy recipes that don't need much preparation.
Just today I received Matt Amsden's book and I think it is GREAT - lovely pics, good recipes. Nice collection.
But the best to me is Alissa's - I also find her DVD really inspiring and touching. It's great seeing her touching and introducing fruits and veggies and see how she is preparing raw foods. It just shows her love for it!
cheers,

This website! :D
For looks and overall cool factor - Raw Food/Real World. I keep it on my nightstand and read it when I can't fall asleep.
