Now that i've found other sprouter i may finally findout what i'm doing wrong with my alfalfa.
I sprout many different beans, seeds and grains but i can't sprout alfalfa, what is wrong with me i thought it was ment to be the easiest, i have vauge memories about doing it as a little kid.
I use a commercial sprouter, i rinse the larger beans and spray the littler ones with an atomiser but they just never get going or end up mouldy. DO they need more light than others?? :o

hiya Veganmama
welcome 1st of all :)
I have the same interests as you on your profile, ahhh I dream of becoming a mama staying at home, home schooling etc.. in the next couple of years I hope.. (i'm 26 now)
I love your avatar pic.
Ok, alfalfa..
hmmm this is my 1st one I tried and it's the easiest for me - i'll tell you what I do, I don't think I do it properly at all ;)
- soak overnight (in mineral water if I remember) in a mug/glass
- rinse (a pain coz they are so small a seive is useless so I just rinse in the cup with my hand as the seive
- leave on the kitchen side
- rinse once or twice a day
that's it! and it works a treat, sometimes I even put them in a cupboard (a bit of light gets to them) to keep them away from flies and the cats and they sprout like mad. Once they are a few days old (I eat them from a couple of days - juts white shoots) and have tiny leaves I put them near the window so the leaves can go green not yellow.
maybe the seeds you get aren't very good or something - have you tried different brands? oh, mine are organic too, i've never tried non-organic ones.
And sometimes I sprout them in a dish instead of a mug, or when they get a couple of cms long I move them to a dish and spread them out a bit.
Not sure if this helps, but good luck!
Love

HI Thunderdancer, thanks for the welcome :) Being a single mum is really hard work but the best thing i could be doing, my girls are so precious. I also have some of the same Loves as you, I ahev two cats and Trees are my favourite things, especially mossy trees, being from Tasmania that's pretty much all we have down there. I have an amazing tattoo of a blossom tree which my tattooist is going to put moss on the trunk for me :)

I think i've been treating them to much like legumes, i'll give it ago your way and let you knwo how it goes. :D

Goodluck Veganmama!
Ooooh cool, I love the sound of your tatoo! Maybe (cheeky me) you could take a pic of it and have it as your avatar.. I LOVE pics :) And I LOVE mossy trees, I go to visit my friend in Derbyshire UK and we walk all over and the rocks and trees are mossy and there are rivers with mossy stones, I LOVE it. Can wait to get back to my green england...
