Okay so I read alot on Dr.Mercola's website and to tell you the truth it scares the heck out of me. What are everyones thoughts on raw dairy products vs. pasteurized? I am trying to read up on this and it sounds great in theory but is anyone else out there doing this or think it is a good idea? The warning about the tuberculosis scares the heck out of me!

Even the average gallon of milk at the store scares me let alone raw milk...can you imagine?

Hi Jasmine,

Just so you are aware, this particular raw forum doesn't advocate nor discuss the consumption of dairy products, raw or pasteurized. However, you always have the option of making dairy-free, nut/seed-based milks, cheezes, ice creams, etc. Just check out our recipe section!

Thanks!

Right. It took me 3 years (while on raw) to convince myself to give up yogurt and kefir. I have been dairy-free for the last 3 month. Less mucus.
If somebody absolutely needs to have probiotic (spelling?) bacteria, you can make kefir from almond or soy (not-recommended) milk.
Casein - is a problem. So do not even go there.

***runs out the room, feeling ill at the mention of dairy***

I can't stand milk. Every time I drank it, I got very queasy and gassy:eek:.

When I ate some cake and ice cream at my son's birthday party, I got ill and was sick all day (should've stopped eating it then, but didn't).

I put a teaspoon of milk in my tea and got sick. This stuff all happened earlier this year, but more than enough for me to stay away from dairy:eek:

I dont know how dangerous unpastured dairy products are but Im not really worried about it. I would buy them if it were legal. My body would get used to filtering out the new bacteria just like our bodies are naturally designed to do (even if getting sick) Can't be worse than touching public door handles all day and then picking your teeth with a finger nail.. Eww okay Im outta here :D

The point is DAIRY is not good for anyone but the animal it came from...

Here in AZ there was a big legal controversy about 22 years ago. People were fighting for the right to purchase raw dairy. The government is not all bad - I think they were just trying to protect people's health. If there is any raw dairy in this state I do not know where it is. No I would not mess with it.

Maybe that is why I feel sick after 1 serving of dairy. My doc says im not lactos.. someone should have told him this..

I just have to add my tidbit on dairy. I haven't consumed dairy for the longest time because it boggles my mind why it's engrained in us that we should. Cows produce milk for their young, who grow to be hundreds of pounds in the first years and have brains the size of an orange(I think, lol). Heck, why not start drinking the milk of a giraffe, or your dog, same thing right? Commercials everywhere tell us that it's an essential part of our diet, it provides us with the adequate amounts of vitamins and blah blah blah...but it provides adequate amounts of that for the COW'S, not us! So drink soy milk, or rice milk, or nut milk, or whatever, just cut out the dairy, we're not cows!

I think the only reason cows milk is advocated over dogs is because there were so many girl cows around because of meat farming and they had to think of something to do with them. Now people think they gotta have it. Ick!!!!

RAW cows milk is for their RAW eating and drinking calfs.

Oh and the quasi vegetarians in my family are even boycotting the questionable soy products.

I'm completely against the consumption of dairy. Animal milk is designed for the animal that produced it, in its infancy. I used to consume dairy, and I would hear the word "lactose intolerant" thrown around.... as if being unable to consume milk is a bad thing! Yeah, don't stop drinking milk, but here's a little pill that will make your problem go away

We're the only creature that demands a "milk" after weaning.

The dairy industry has invested billions of dollars in earning their place as a "food group" (a whole group? wow, it's just ONE ingredient), and in convincing people that without dairy there is a big calcium emergency. People see it on tv, and they see people with prestigious titles and credentials pushing it... 'sgotta be good, right? :D

Yep. Cow's milk is for calves. Goat's milk is for baby goats (I didn't wanna say kids. :p) and so on. Unless you're into human breast milk, I say avoid all of it.

Milk is full of pus and feces, urine, blood, and hormones. If you don't mind your breath smelling of these things, or your saliva having the consistency of thick yet runny snot, I say give it a try!

hey, here in cali we have raw dairy in our whole foods and co-ops i tried milk, cream and the cheese i dont think its neccessary but i know the fact that its raw its better than pasturized, if u have to do cheese its better to eat sheep or goat, i was lactose intolerant as a kid and i break out if i eat it i i stay away like others have said its best to stay away its meant for baby cows to grow into well...big cows...it might be good for transitions like myself i was a heavy meat eater but even i kind of skipped out the dairy, havent tried nut kefir or milk but now i want to :D

I've had the opportunity to experiment with both raw cow's milk and goat milk, which is the way to go if you got the dairy addiction. Still turned my brain into a big snot ball........ dulled my memory with the mucuous reaction. No thanks!

I am not here to advocate raw diary BUT... I have access to raw milk and the farmers are great to their cows. The milk is clean and delicious One of my children is lactose intolerant UNLESS she drinks raw milk or eats raw cheeses, then there is no problem. Still, after reading "The China Study", which is amazingly excellent and informative, I am transitioning my children to the nut milks I drink. I am mixing half cow and half nut milks transitioning over to all nut over the next few weeks. I love cows and I am grateful for their offerings, just look at the health of a Masai warrior!! They eat milk and blood. I am glad I am not having that diet and I do not know what their average lifespan is, though. But I do agree, milk from any animal is designed for that animal's child. My kids did well on my milk and now they will have plant-milk, THE HEALTHIEST!! (And it makes great chocolate milk!!)

Aside from dairy being for the animals from which it came, and it being gross :), it is disease-promoting in the human body, "raw," "organic," "pasteurized," or "non-" -- It is dangerous, dangerous stuff, proved even moreso than the other disease promoting "food," red meat.

I'm so glad that Alissa is at the forefront of the rawfood movement. I was extremely proud and happy when she mentioned "raw vegan" diet on the Tyra show. So often we get happy with little compromises we get from the media, but she didn't sell out. I'm so grateful for that.

I wouldn't take Mercola as Gospel -- not by a longshot; he's full of half-truths.

Best,

Yep. I know a lot of people put a lot of stock into what he says, but I just never have been able to take him very seriously.

Mercola says fruit is deadly!!!!!

I actually think raw-dairy is healthy unless you're lactose or casein intolerant (We eat lots of foods that our bodies weren't designed to eat and benefit from the nutrients in them. In the 1900s some hospitals used raw milk, 4 - 12 litres per day, to cure many diseases, and it was particularly effective for tuberculosis) but the dairy industry is horrifically cruel. It's like something out of a horror film. If farmers did to humans what they do to cows they would be considered the worst and sickest serial-killers and murderers in history.
And of course pasteurised milk is lethal, one of the most unhealthy foods on the planet.
