Hi everyone!

I am so glad I found this board. I have read Alissa's book and wanted to go raw for quite sometime now. I know that once I am done my 7-day juice fast (on day 5 today!) I plan on incorporating more raw items into my diet. I already consume a vegan diet consisting of no unnatural sugars, caffeine, or processed foods. I however have several sensitivities and food allergies...sesame and nuts being my highest allergies. I can consume raw peanuts if I wanted to. I have tried pecans in very small amounts and been okay but then I had a wheezing reaction. I know due to recent bloodwork that I am allergic to all other nuts highly. Enough that it would swell my throat closed if I ate one of these amazing raw recipes with nuts.

Other allergies are soy and sesame. I did an elimination diet starting the beginning of October and after going into a healthier, soy-free diet I feel better than ever. My stomach problems are healing themselves and I am finally off of man-made medications. I went from 145 lbs to 132 lbs (possibly a few less because of this juice fast/cleanse) as well and I just want to keep improving from here...

I believe whole-heartedly in holistic medicine and I see a natural doctor. She is amazing and she believes everything I am doing is positive for me. I feel very supported by my friends as well even though many question how it is hard for me to find things to eat, I just think it's a better way to eat. I am also going to begin studying at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in October 2007 to become a certified health counselor.

Here is my little summer of health problems I have/had:
-Allergies (foods and environmental)
-Asthma (allergy and exercise-induced)
-Past stomach ulcers (healed)
-G.E.R.D. (although better than ever!)
-Ejection fraction in gall bladder (although not tested any time recently, I think this has majorly improved: simply means my gall bladder works a tiny bit slower than the norm)
-Vocal surgery in Oct.2004 (cyst on vocal chords, my reflux still irritates my voice a lot)
-Sinus surgery in Jan.2005 (fixed deviated septum and opened maxillary sinus cavity)
-Weaker immune system (esp. after both surgeries I got Mono a few months later; this was in 2005; this is getting better!)
-MRSA (to those who know what this is, yeah, I can't believe that happened ouyt of nowhere- May 2006- but I beat it and it hasn't come back!)
-Chronic fatigue (getting better!)

I am probably missing things. It seems like a lot but I have handled this all very well. I am honestly doing very well now even though all those things make me appear as a sick case in a bubble. I feel better than I have in years but like I said, I want to get even better and I feel that raw foods would be ideal for me (if not for my nut allergy)...what do you think? Can I do it 75% at least?

Thanks if you read this (I know it's a lot and I didn't expect to type this much!)...
:)

Welcome Aleigh! You know much more than I did when I started. Most of the health problems you listed have either healed or seen significant improvement with the raw diet. (I am unfamiliar with the gall bladder thing.) The raw way of dealing with nuts may help you. I have not started with it yet but the soaking of the nuts and getting the skin off (which has toxins) may aid you in being less sensitive. There is so much here to learn and much of it is trial and error with your personal body type . . . . I have read many here that would never touch raw peanuts for example. Have a wonderful raw journey!

I have noticed that some suggestions have been things such a seeds, like sunflower or hemp to replace nuts, if you are not allergic to these things. Good luck & welcome!!
