I am eating things that are high in iron, but, unless I take a supplement, I can barely get out of bed :(

I'd love if someone with anemia could offer some diet suggestions.

I just wrote a brief something about this in another thread.

I've been anemic almost all my life...even before becoming vegetarian, vegan or raw. I think that for me it's lack of absorption. If you are eating iron-rich foods and if I was still diagnosed with it even when I ate animal products, it MUST be that our bodies aren't absorbing it properly. Heck, when pregnant with my 4th child, they put me on iron supplements and even with THAT, I was still considered low and they were threatening to give me iron shots and said I may need a blood transfusion during the delivery if things didn't pick up. But thankfully, that didn't end up happening...but the point is, even with supplementation AND eating meat, I was still low when they tested me. So again...must have been an absorption issue!

I know that my body is still not totally clean (esp. since I am not always 100% raw) and I have re-developed some digestive/colon issues because of it.

So, I think the key is eating a clean diet and making sure the colon is healthy and clean so your body can absorb it. I'm sure there are other things to do or consider as well...but that's my take on it.

Thank you for the response, Rawk :)

That's an interesting theory... I've been wondering why I have to beat myself over the head with Feosol to feel vitalty when I *know* the foods I am eating should be enough.

Do you think a Master Cleanse for a few days, with a laxative tea, might help up my absorbtion rate of my foods?

I'm willing to try anything... I'm tired of being... well, tired

high raw brought all of my levels back up to within normal range over the course of about a year.

are you certain that its the anemia causing the fatigue? are you experiencing ANY other symptoms...headaches? irregular periods? muscle pain? anything you can think of?

do you know your current levels?
