DETOX HEADACHE!! OMG, I'm still at work, and I just need to calm it down. For others, cooked food may be the temptation, but not for me. I just want to pop some Advils and a Pepsi. Wow, I can't even move too fast or I get this horrible throbbing pain. :(

Got any ideas on how to calm them naturally?

TIA!

Tia-I've had a few lately myself-try this accupressure technique.

Pinch & hold the flesh between your thumb & first (pointer) finger. I do this on my left side-as that is where the pain seems to come from. It really helps.

Also, Shrugg you shoulders up as high as possible....HOLD....then release. do this about 3-4 times, as it will release a lot of tension from your system.

Feel better...

this might sound crazy.. but sometimes when I get a headache my sweetie will rub my temples while talking to me and leading me on a "meditation" of sorts (even though he would never call it that)....

he'll say things like.. " imagine you are on a beach.. you can hear the waves... there are birds flying overhead and you feel the warmth of the sun on your skin"....

after a few minutes of that with my eyes closed and deep breathing, the headache usually goes away...

of course, that's just a normal headache.. I don't know if a detox headache is going to be more difficult..

but maybe try just closing your eyes with some deep breathing and rubbing your temples while thinking of something pleasant.

hope you can get rid of it!

If you are in that much discomfort:

1) Go home
2) Get fresh air, light exercise, and plenty of pure water
3) Rest in a quiet and dark room. Do not use your eyes.
4) Breathe evenly and dwell on your breath

OR

-Do something nice for others that completely encompasses your attention for several hours. You will notice later that your headache has gone away.

-Just some suggestions.

You can do something to try to speed your detox along.

-Get a professional massage
-Do that hot water/cold water thing in the shower that people talk about here (sorry I don't remember what it's called)
-Fast for a day with juice or water
-Skin Brushing
-Yoga to get your circulation moving and to relax you.
-Juicing fennel is said to help migraines also

Anything to get toxins out a little more quickly. Even just drinking a lot of water to help flush you out some.

Hope you feel better soon.

If you use TRUE essential oils, you can mix a little lavendar with peppermint and rub the back of your neck and shoulders to relieve some of the pain.

Detox can be nasty. Can you just go home and rest?

I'm a clinical massage therapist and we help folks with headaches all the time. A few suggestions are:

1. Find the bump on the back of your head. Everyone pretty much has one. it's called the EOP or External Occipital Protuberance. Just below it your'll find a dip that's easy to push into with your fingers. This area is all tissue and muscle. Feel around from one side of the back of your head to the other in this depression so you can feel what areas feel more tense than others. Now, with some good pressure sink your fingers in and massage this whole area. Most tension headaches originate here.

2. Since you seem to have more of a migrane due to detox the above technique will provide some relief, but not all. Try a cool compress to the front of the head. Lay down in a darkened room, on a comfortable bed or mat with no noise around you and place the compress on your forehead. Make sure your compress doesn't weigh too much or the pressure will only aggrevate things.

3. Though folks don't want to hear this one, if you are detoxing off caffeine. . . take a couple sips of coffee or something naturally caffeinated like green tea or yerba mate. This helps your body come off the caffeine in a less aggressive way. If you weren't on caffeine, it still helps with the migrane by working on the blood vessels that are going haywire in your head.

4. Lastly, if your headache feels like it's the worst one you've ever had you may want to contact a professional of your choosing.

Hope this helps, and sending out lots of healing energy your way! Take care.

Pinch the top of your nose between your eye brow with both hands. Its supposed to be the pressure point to take away headaches.

Oh Trinity, you just made me remember another shiatsu point. Hold your left hand in front of you, palm down. Take right had and pinch the webbing in between thumb and index finger.

For an even better point, take index finger and touch the webbing between thumb and index finger. Come up just a little further above webbing with index finger and push in pretty hard until it feels a little uncomfortable. Hold till headache starts to go away.
