My longest stretch on a 100% raw challenge was 5 1/2 months.

My new goal is to do RAW 100% for 1 FULL YEAR.

This is a serious comitment to me.

I would love it if some of you would like to join me on this challenge.

This is serious, this is a full year. If you are just starting out you may want to try a 30 day challenge.

I will begin my Challenge on Monday, Jan. 1st. I will start with a picture and I am going to keep a journal of my progress. I will take progress photos. I will lean to rawfoodtalk and my family and friends for support. I need all of you good folks to hold me accountable.

If you would like to do the challenge with me. Post your goals for the year 2007 and lets make it the best RAW year ever and achieve better health.

Lay-lay :D

I will begin my challenge on Jan 1st, also.

It's time for me to get rid of SAD and start eating 100% raw. If I slip up, I won't beat myself up about it. Dust myself off and try again.

By the end of this year, I plan on being 100 pounds lighter:D

I'm sick of weighing 260 pounds:eek: Bye-bye, SAD!

Awesome Killik!

Yeah that is very important about if you do have something not raw, don't let it knock the rest of day and especially not the next day and the days to come.

Just take it one meal at a time!

Hey I want pictures, OK?

Count ME IN :D :D

My raw Success had been in spurts of several days at a time with transitionary moments interupting me everytime . I don't beat myself up but I do want to get this new way of living down pat once and for all.

I want to accomplish an optimal health lifestyle that includes 100% RAW, regular fasting/ cleansing, 2x daily exercise and daily meditation.

I've got a journal page set up w/ just two reflective entries. The pic is an inspiration pic of what I'm trying to achieve. Eeek  if I put a real before pic up then I guess I'd  have to get serious and stay focused. That's huge accountability!!!! You know a fluffy bloated pic posted in the cybersphere for all to see. Hmmmm gotta think about that :) .
I'll weigh again tonight and then again in time for the 1st of the year. My health is relatively great but I do have some pounds to release into the universe.

BY THE WAY I'm FEELING REALLY GOOD ABOUT 2007, on so many levels!!!

I will go 100% raw on Jan 21

I've been transitioning for about six months and now I feel I know enough about eating raw and what my body needs to go 100%.

I can hardly wait. I have already reached the point where eating a cooked meal has unpleasant consequences the next day.

I wish all of you the very best

me too!! I've been planning on doing 100% on january first.

My fiance says he'll give me $1,000.00 if I can do it too! lol. I don't know if he's serious but that's even more reason to try!

I was a little nervous about it (I posted a thread about being scared) but now that I know I'll have all you wonderful people behind me and we'll all be helping each other, I know I can do it!

correction, I know WE can do it!

me too. I've been dabbling in raw foods and when I eat regular stuff I can totally feel it. (and it's not pleasant all the time)

Just looking at cooked food makes me ill:eek:

People try to get me to eat dead spinach and I won't eat it. It looks so stringy and..lifeless.

Yabba Dabba Dooooooo!!!

Yup. It's time.

I have liver issues and only as a VERY last resort will have some steamed veggies if the detox episodes are to strong. When I try to push too much stuff through my liver, it hurts very much and for a long time! (I had surgery and had 10% of my liver removed and have a lot of scar tissue) Because of this, I am unable to do a traditional liver cleanse.

I will journal at least once weekly as well.

7 seems to be God's perfect number. And it'll soon be 2007 so I figure it's going to be a great year!

Blessings on your journeys.....

PS - I'll post new pics on January 1st.

I have been raw since Oct 25, 2006. It has been amazing - I have lost at least 25 pounds and I feel great! I have lost my craving for junk food which used to HORRIBLE! So I am confident that raw foods is the way to go!

Count me in!

I'm in as well! I am meeting with a local doctor next week to set up a 6-week detox cleanse - it is also 100% raw, so that will be a great start to the year!

My secondary goal is to focus on my gift of health to my family and friends. I want to put more emphasis on finding raw meals that my children really embrace. I've already found a few, but need to flesh it out some.

You guys are always such a great source of support -

Happy New Year is going to have a whole new meaning in 2007!

Ok, so these are my new raw-year resolutions:
1) eat 100% raw
2) eat as much as I can Organic
3) don't eat dried fruit, unsoaked nuts - less oil, salt and vinegar
4) don't mix fruit n' fat (my fav combo is avocado/apple/carob)
5) no more cacao
6) take the following supplements: zink, b-complex, AD-vitamin and Msm (My main problem is my skin) - which is why I should...
7) take good care of it - wash it day/night with my specially made god-send natural cleanser + use my likewise facecream and Aloevera
8) Use all natural/organic shampoo and conditioner
9) Dry brush each morning for 5-10 minutes.
10) Lay down for at least 10 minutes/day and listen to some good music - thinking about, you guessed it - nothing at all.
11) Believe in the best in people
12) Read more books as well as write more books.
13) Only buy stuff I realy need.
14) See my boyfriend more.
15) Be sure that my best friends are ok. and if they are not - change that!
16) Figure out what to do after graduation - make my little dream of working at this small yoga/rawfood cafe in Amsterdam really happen.
17) do pilates 2 times/week.
18) Don't forget to feed my cat (ugh - that reminds me!)
19) Tell my family that I love them everyday - cus I do.
20) tell myself that I love me too - cus I guess I do.

whew... those were a few - arh well, aim high right?

So, 2007 = raw heaven!

But I'm going be careful not to give myself too much permission to "cheat" for the sake of the holidays! 'cuz all that's gonna do is make me feel "icky"...which may create an obstacle for staying committed.

So, my plan is to have a raw holiday (but not beat myself if I stray a bit).

I'm blessed 'cuz my wife picked up all kinds of raw treats that should keep my cool thru xmas. She's not raw, she's just extremely supportive and cool (while at the same time being hot :D )

I'm in!

My goals for the new year are to regain my healthy and vitality, get down and dirty playing with my kids again, put more thoughtfulness into my work, FINALLY use the hydroponic growing system we were gifted with 2 years ago, and to begin exercising. Hopefully my hubby has followed through on my not-so-subtle hints that I'd like to find a rebounder under the Christmas tree on Monday :D

OK....last Dec. 1st (2005) a friend and I decided that we would go raw 100% for a year. We decided to reward ourselves with a charm bracelet.Every month we were 100% raw, we were supposed to get a charm. Well, I earned 3 charms! I am going to add 12 new charms...well, 13 if you count this month!!! I can't wait to FILL UP my charm bracelet! Maybe someone else would like to "reward" yourself the same way. A piece of jewelry, even a "cheap" beaded bracelet or necklace can help remind you of your goals! I need to sit down and seriously think about my resolutions.....last year I didn't make any. It always seems like resolutions are the things that people "fail" at first.....and I don't want raw to be that "thing!!" I can't wait for the new year!

MARAW :D I love, love, love your website. You have such a wonderful spirit! I'm glad you like my idea, what a nice confirmation of doing something right! I'm glad your here. I just printed off some recipes from your site. I already LOVE (and so does NON-RAW DH) the herb cheese spread. I can't wait to try the Tropical tacos, and spinach and herb crackers......the raviolis....my recipe list from your site just keeps growing. OH yeah...and I already love the chocolate chewies, and chocolate pudding!! Does the coconut creme make that much difference??? I might have to give that a try. AND just one more question. Is there a taste difference in the DARK agave nectar?? Agave nectar tastes sooo sweet to me, more like a sugar than raw honey tastes....wondering if there is a more "full" sweet flavor?? Does that even make sense??? YOU are a raw genious!!

Wow! What a compliment - and first thing in the morning too. Thank you, and thank you again!

Yeah, I do think the blue (dark) agave tastes different than the lighter one. It has a richer, more caramel/maple flavor to it. The light agave works well too in the pudding though it that's what your most interested in. I would just add a touch more vanilla to the recipe if you are concerned. Raw blue agave also has a much lower glycemic number than the light. I believe it is something like 16 vs/ 46.

You can also sub coconut oil for the raw cream concentrate, although the cream adds more richness to the pudding I have found. That's a recent change, but a GOOD one!

SO glad you are enjoying the recipes. I am adding a few more today. I did take some off yesterday - those that weren't visited very often and some that I just wanted to "retire" for a bit to make room for new ones.

Enjoy!

well, I got two new raw books for christmas so maybe I'll find a great recipe in there and take it to the new years party I'm going to. It's going to be a small party with just a few friends... but maybe I can introduce them to raw food and have them try a bit....

yay! I'm so excited. after all this SAD eating I've been doing while away on vacation.. I can't wait to feel light and healthy again.

seriously.. I've been visiting my folks and we've been eating so much and such heavy food! :o

So, I do not know if I will succeed, but I really want to try and do my best...and I know I will get great support here...so, please count me in.
I am so excited about this journey...

I'm reading a book called The Hallelujia Diet. It's 85%, or more raw 15% or less cooked. No meat products. This is the way I want to go, BUT... I won't eat cooked foods every day.

Can I still join you?

This website is based around Alissa's book, "Living on Live Food". Everyone here is aiming for (or is already) 100% raw.

Talking about following another author's program in a thread like this isn't recommended.

If you want to do that "other" approach, it's your decision.

If I seem a bit harsh, I apologize. Being 100% raw is a subject I feel very strongly about. I truly mean no disrespect when I say this.

Oh yeah, I think for DOIT I've read Hallelujah Acres...I think they have a wonderful approach for someone who has been eating SAD their whole life. Please count me in as well!

A few months ago I aimed to be 100% RAW while going through my infertility treatments. Slowly the number dropped to 0%. With the hormone injections and after the invitro procedure (they recommended not lifting, bending, or any straining for 2 weeks), my emotions went wacky and I lost my focus to be healthy. I had a wonderful time being a mommy for 7 weeks, before my miscarriage with twins. For the year 2007 I'd like to detox my body from the progesterone and other hormones I was given. I'd like to have a pure and healthy body, to prepare for my next pregnancy. Also I'd like to raise my vibration to attract abundance and the joy of life.

Is it possible to wear heals without pain??? I don't think I could ever ....NEVER post pictures of me in a bathing suit....it might take 10 years of me going 100% raw to do that! :D Anyway...gearing up for January 1st......HOW ARE YA'LL CELEBRATING????!!!!! :D
Wendi
Oh yeah, I think for DOIT I've read Hallelujah Acres...I think they have a wonderful approach for someone who has been eating SAD their whole life. I think as long as you are TRYING to make it to 100%, and that is your GOAL..then I SAY join in...just my little 2 cents worth! We are all here to support each other. Maybe you could join in and just not list EVERYTHING you are eating in a day...as to not tempt the rest of us??? Maybe I'm wrong, but you know what they say about opinions.....
Wendi

MUahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Well chickadee, I was going to go out in the city with a small group of friends doing the formal, dinner and jazz music BUT the way I've been feeeeeeeeeeeeeling, I'm probably going rest and do some energy work. I'm in! I was 100% raw for six months but lost so much weight I got scared. I've been learning to make a more varied raw diet with more calories to keep my weight up. I'm going to go back to !00% as I felt really good!

Please count me in on this.

I have been struggling big time the last year. I was raw for 5 months last year and loved it so much. I had a big talk with my husband last night and today is the last day one of staring over on raw that I ever want to have again. I am a much happier person when I am raw. Even my husband noticed how much happier I was when I was raw. So I am with you. I actually started today. I can not put it off any more. I feel too miserable and awful. I will get some new pictures and post them here too.
This is a great idea.

On another note, does anyone know how to resize your pictures? Mine are too big and I don't know how to fix them. I would love to put an avator in.
Thanks.

Looking forward to a happy, healthy, raw 2007! And beyond!

I would love to be a part of the 2007 1 Year Challenge, so please do count me in!

My goals are to be low fat raw vegan, to be in the best athletic shape of my life (I am 40) to have a flat and toned tummy, to increase my level of consciousness and spirituality, to not be scared of my emotions, to be more active with my 3 kids, to be vulnerable with my husband and take our sex life to a whole new RAW level, and to do things every day that GIVE to others, and take me out of my comfort zone.

These are my goals. I would love to hear others' goals that are embarking on this challenge.

I am in for the challenge too, I've made a number of positive changes over the past few months and want to continue.

In October, I committed to 100% raw again after several weeks of eating cooked. To symbolize this commitment (and because I was feeling that I needed the strength of a warrior to achieve it) I chopped my hair off to about 1/4 inch. Except for maybe four or five slipups, I've stayed at 100% since then.

In November, I made the commitment, which I've wanted to make for over 10 years now but could never keep consistently, to a daily meditation practice come h*ll or high water. No matter how tired I am, no matter how full my belly is, no matter if it isn't the perfect time of day or if the house is noisy. Just commit to sitting on that cushion every day. To symbolize the seriousness of this commitment, I again buzzcutted my hair. I realize this sounds kind of extreme, but the haircut did give me a "new start." I have only missed one day of meditation since that day.

In December, I made the commitment to water fast for 24 hours every Sunday, for both spiritual and health reasons. It's been four Sundays now and so far so good. This one practice I've also been wanting to do for several years now and even though it's only been a month, I'm seeing that the benefits of it have been manifold. Physically and spiritually as well.

For the new year, I'm going to continue with these practices and add to them 20 minutes of walking per day. I usually exercise regularly but I let school get the best of me this past semester, I was way too busy and exercizing fell by the wayside.

I also want to incorporate one juice day a week (Saturday) to get rid of leftovers in the fridge (stuff like carrots and celery which tend to get forgotten in the veggie bin) and one cooked meal a week, on Friday evenings. This last point I have thought about long and hard and it will be somewhat of an experiment on my part. My goal is to be 100% raw forever someday but I've been doing this raw thing for two years now and I do great at 100% for several months, then go off for a few weeks, then go back to raw and have to detox all over again. I'm tired of that cycle and want to try something new. I am taking my inspiration here from poster Dave Mason who says he tapered off cooked food gradually and has now been 100% for several years.

Because of this on-again, off-again pattern of mine over the past 2 years, I'm concluding that I'm not quite ready for the "I'm never going to eat cooked food again" declaration so I'm hoping that feeding the desire once a week will keep it at bay and also prevent those weeks-long jags going off of raw food bc of built-up unfulfilled desires. I'm betting that my weekend fasting will put the brakes on any tendency to go over that one cooked-meal-a week quota.

In keeping with the mission of this site I will not be discussing my one cooked meal (on Fridays) in this thread but I will be honest and post if I fail in my attempt.

I am looking forward to "challenging" with each and every one of you. :)

Is it okay if we don't post pictures? Although I trust the members in this forum, sadly, through my hobby/job, I have collected a couple of internet stalkers. While I don't think they'll find me here, I can't be 100% sure of that, and I'm just more comfortable not putting my picture online.

I haven't seen anyone suggest any rules, I think we all just want a mutual support and accountability group, and I surely wouldn't post pics if it's not safe or comfortable. I have my before pics, but I'm not posting them for now, I'm pretty ashamed of them.

yay! this is exactly what I have been looking for - lots of like - minded people who want to live the 'raw dream' like me! But seriously folks, doesnt it sound like bliss???
I think its really important to think about what you are 'gaining' when going raw and not what you are 'giving up' - thats what I plan to focus on.
I have planned to go 100% raw on January 1rst all by my lonesome so what better way to do it than with you guys :)
Anyways...I plan to go raw, 100% same day/year as ye'all. Kicking and screaming I will do it and in one year will be reaping the rewards - and so will all of you!!!
Best of luck everybody,

YAY!!!

last month, i came here sooooooo excited about going 100% raw. i signed my writ of divorce from my two husbands (ben and jerry) and was ready for a life change.

i have NEVER been lactose intolerant, but after having been 100% raw for 10 days, i had some dairy and ... well, let's just say ... my digestive tract experienced some challenges!!! :p

but due to natural human depravity, i fell off the wagon. it's amazing that i did, because i felt sooooo good 100% raw and everything was going great. yet i fell off. :o makes no sense whatsoever. went out to a thai restaurant with a friend while in NY, and have been struggling ever since. i even re-married my two husbands, you guys!

and as much as we love the human body for its resilience, the "resilience factor" works against you when you fall off the wagon because though you feel physically sick the first day, your body adjusts ... even to the crap you stuff in your body!

my point? COUNT ME IN!!!!!

i'm not a numerologist, but i agree that the number seven has significance. i have a wonderful feeling that spiritually, physically, energetically and in every other way, 2007 is going to be my year. each of the past few years has been amazing for me and better than the previous, so i expect nothing but a wonderful time for 2007 and beyond. PLUS i can't stand this back-fat i'm starting to feel  or the reality that if i don't treat my body right now ... i'll have health consequences in the future. problem is, when the future comes, i won't be able to jump in the time machine and change anything.

brace yourself, here's the current pic. i hope to be free from unnecessary, toxic, mcNasty blubbery FAT by this time next year!

Misslinda I'm going to have a couple of friends over for New Year's Eve. They have children also (mine are 11, 9, and 6) and the kids can play games, kareoke, etc. and grown-ups will do the same, but plan on doing a night of TEXAS HOLD-EM! The food plan for everyone is to bring a finger food. I'm going to make a pie, some fudge, and eat a salad before hand. Maybe some crackers and dip too, guacamole is a great favorite, and some raw corn chips would go well with the "texas" theme of playing poker EH? I hope you have a great night. Why is it that you fall so much? Is it because, since you've fallen a couple of times, you dwell on the fear of falling again, and end up falling anyway?? Just a thought. My prayers are with you!

MelissaW I'm sorry to hear of your miscarriage. I know from experience (I've had 2) how devestating it can be. I also know, for one of my "times" it was my personally biggest spiritual growing time with God. I will remember you in my prayers, maybe by this time next year, you will be a mommy to a beautiful baby (or 2, or 3 :D ) God Bless! AND yes, I think raw eating is the way to go, to give your babies the ultimate nutrition they will need! Do your Dr.s agree with your eating choice?? God Bless.

hi gang,

i am in for the challenge....i have slacked a bit on the raw since i have been pregnant.....i was barfing up anything raw practically in the beginning, but now there is no reason for me to stay cooked as i am feeling fine when i do eat raw food..... so i was all raw today so far
i just ate the yummiest kale salad! yum!
i may eat a bit of cooked the next few days too.....to make the transition a bit, as i dont want to shock the little one w any detox! although i think it will be ok since i was eating raw for a long time before.

happy new year everyone!!!!

my resolutions:
1. raw
2. regular yoga practice
3. stay in peace/practice non-reaction

i also love numbers too...and yes, 7 is a good one! also i just turned 33....my favorite number!

I saw my doctor yesterday about the big six-week cleanse I am going to begin the year with. It starts off with colon and liver, and then moves to kidneys, spleen, gallbladder and the rest. I am excited, and just a bit anxious, but excited really. In the meantime, the cleanse requires an all raw diet which is why I am beginning this challenge along with the cleanse. I think it is a great start to the year!

Has anyone found anything to use for the "bead/charm-a-month" success bracelet? I really think that will help me to stay focused especially when dining out.

Any suggestions are more than welcome!

What kind of cleanse are you using? I really want to do some type of major cleanse through my body....sounds like yours will be a TOTAL body cleanse. Is this by the Dr.? or something you bought from the HFS, OR is the DR. administering the cleanse??? Thanks for your help.

Thanks.

Here is a free program to download. It's very easy to use and will let you manipulate photos in all sorts of ways. To resize, simply go to file which is at the top left of the program, then choose open, browse your computer to find the picture that you want. Open that picture and go 2 places over at the top of the program to image, click on resize/resample and change the size to what you want. You can play with it till you get it how you want it. It does not alter your original file, just make sure when you save it that you rename it, otherwise your original picture will be lost.

What kind of cleanse are you using?... Wendi

It is a food and supplement cleanse, and yes it is followed or administered by the doctor. It starts with a major flush and then continues on more gently working through various organs.

My lymph system is a mess right now and I have been wanting to do this for a while, but the cost has been prohibitive. And really, I was hoping to locate a physician to guide me through it in case I had questions or concerns. I'm glad I waited.

If you like Wendi, send me your email and I will ask the doctor to get in touch with you and send you more info. I know they would be happy to do so. They are regular MDs, but with a more holistic and preventive approach to medicine.

Hope this helps!

I don't know if I can do this as my original determination was to start on 1-2-07. I can do the year "Ready to RAWK 2007 Raw FOR A YEAR!" from that date as I have a really big family obligation that is part custom. I would have a year to ween them to my new lifestyle.

So I am determined to support from that date for the RAWK 2007 to 1-2-2008. If this disqualifies me, then I understand.

for the next few days leading up to new years eve, I'm going to do my best to at least eat lighter.... because I've been SO HORRIBLE over the holidays and eating very heavy stuff.

I've now realized that one of the hardest parts of going raw is going to be socializing and not giving into temptation while others around me eat SAD.

Howdy everyone! Wow, alot of challengers! I look forward to taking this journey with all of you. I have enjoyed a a few days on a cruise ship in the caribbean. Great time, but I returned very ill. I thought I had the flu. I tried everything (but raw, being I had no energy to go through the store since in got back from the trip). My husband finally dragged me to the doctor, which he told me I had a viral infection common to cruise ships. Lovely. I am a little better today. Count me in from the first as opposed to the 2nd. Let me tell you why. This week I have been over-doing it on cooked food that now it actually disgusts me. I feel lethargic, depressed, and can clearly see the difference in my attitude before and after eating cooked foods.

What prompted me also was the feedback received by Luna99 this morning. This was so perfect for me as I have to crucial functions tomorrow, one of which there is literally pressure to eat cooked foods. I will apply the feedback she received.

Let’s do this!

"You cannot judge the quality of another's friendship by superficial appearances, especially when things are going smoothly. It is only when we have experienced the worst, most crushing of times—when we have plumbed the depths of life—that we can experience the joys of genuine friendship. Only a man of principle, a woman of resolve—a person who stays true to their chosen path—can be a trusted and true friend, and have real friends in turn." -Daisaku Ikeda

I want to lastly wish everyone a very happy and safe New Years. See you on the otherside.

This is the year I will focus on me! I'd like to really become strong and flexible again. I want to treat my body with respect both physically and mentally. I deserve respect.

This year I'd like to gradually listen to my body and get to mono eating, all organic if possible, and 36 hour fasts saturday evening to monday morning.

I feel like I'm posting too much but I'm so excited! A part of me felt like I should eat some big, heavy meal as my "last meal" before I start my raw lifestyle.... but then the sensible side of me thought "why do that? why hurt your body? and besides, fresh, light, raw food tastes so much better and is so yummy!"....

so I had apple slices with avocado, sprouts, and a little agave syrup on nori sheets instead! mmmm sooo good. that will definitely be a regular meal for me.

raw is the best! :D

I'd also like to invite everyone to come read my journal.. i'm going to be tracking everything very carefully as I go and taking many photos along they way.. it should be interesting to see the changes...

currently I'm probably about 80 pounds overweight (ugh! it's hard to type that) and I'm wondering if I'm going to have dramatic changes in the beginning.

I think it's great how you prepare yourself for the raw lifestyle!

When it comes to social situations, I know that many fear too many questions or odd looks - what I think is best is just not to make too much fuss about your "diet". The less fuss you make, the less questions asked and all have peace and quiet.

I don't do this because I am afraid of introducing the lifestyle or anything like that but because I don't want to spend hours of explaining or defending something others don't think is right.

Diets are very controversial and in many cases discussing this is totally fruitless - think about regular vs. vegan/vegetarian diet or lowcarb and lowfat and whatever (to me a diet is a lifestyle). For everything there are multiple pros and cons and everyone tends to believe that he is doing what is the right thing.

Don't be scared, try to live your life and have fun. And next time don't forget your fiance's shopping just kidding

cheers,
madmel

Hey, I'm committing to 100% raw because I believe people that there is a big difference between 95% raw and total purity and I want to experience it. I've been high raw and experiencing absolutely no problems with the cold Oregon winter (it's not that bad anyway, I'm on the temperate coast). I'm such a food addict that I'm doing a three-day juice fast to break the stranglehold on my taste buds, so I can start fresh.

That's encouraging to know you did well raw with a cold climate. I live in the Northwest and while it's easy to find raw food because we have amazing health-conscious people here, the weather feels very cold to me.

Went to a party (custom) w/an AP reporter, senator and swore to eat just fruit or veggies, and not talk about RAW. Guess what I spoke about two subjects. :o

1. Raw Diet
2. Global Warming (and how I could get free installation of solar panels)

Guest what; I won! I ate two bananas, 1 apple, et 1 tangerine.

All after coming from a New Years Gongyo. IE… The power of prayer is so strong that I was able to win. :p

How uplifting to see people so relieved & charged & excited!

I've experienced backpain & tiredness the last days. Today I felt the first 'raw buzz' & shook my head in disbelief at ever getting off the wagon...

@ GoingToRAW - no dumb question at all. As I understand it you'll have to post a pic, but it can be any kind of image, doesn't have to be a photo.

@ tvillemom - caffeine, yes...I stopped five days before new year's...we'll get through!

@ Veeg - I second that 'feeling lighter'. Imagine we'll all have an entire year of 'fog-lifting'...layer after layer...

@ Swingbolder - I went around my place with some incense & while passing the meditation corner I thought of your cutting your hair as a sign of commitment. Just thinking about that intensifies my own motivation, so thank you for sharing!

I know from past experience, that kicking the "cafeine" monster isn't easy; does anyone have a suggestion for the headache? I've had it for almost two days now... Like Alissa mentions in the book, I'm not taking anything for it; since Excedrin is loaded with cafeine, and it's the only thing that works.

I'm so stoked at all of us! Here's to another great day raw! :p

Walkingcooper: Unfortunately, the only thing I've found that cures the headaches is time! And sleep. Try drinking a lot of fresh juice if you have a juicer...I find it gives me energy and I don't miss the caffeine (though I'm still drinking the ocassional cup of green tea these days). If it's too hard giving up coffee, do it gradually by switching to green tea first then wean off that. Hang in there...after 2 days you are close to done!

Happy new year to everyone! Have been laying low and recovering from a nasty cold. Breakfasts have been fresh red grapefruit juice. Rotating the balance of my small amount of eating between mock salmon pate spread on cuke circles and simply snacking on fruit. Lots of water and warm teas to keep hydrated. Have not really been very hungry since my taste buds were down for several days.

Swingbolder, one of my favorite salads is tender Boston lettuce leaves with chopped walnuts and either dried cranberries or diced dried apricots, topped with a nicely herbed vinagrette dressing and a few grindings of black pepper. Would love your caesar recipe! Romaine is my favorite lettuce.

I've been sick all day and feeling horrible and drugged up on cold medicine and about 30 minutes ago I was hungry and my drugged up mind kept telling me I needed a sandwich, and well.. I had one.

but, I'm going to jump right back on tomorrow and keep going...

that's the thing about this.. I want to be raw but i'm realistic too and know I'm not going to be absolutely 100% for the rest of my entire life...

Thanks for the recipe, LGJ.

The Caesar's recipe is the BOMB DIGGITY (as we used to say) but it's kind of involved so I will post it when I have more time (my husband needs the computer for work), probably not until the weekend. I got the recipe from Renee Underkoffer's cookbook 'Living on Live Cuisine' which mostly has a gourmet stuff in it. The GREAT thing about the Caesar's recipe is that you can make a big batch of it at once and it will you a week or two because it keeps well in the refridgerator. There is a pine nut parmesan cheese recipe that you sprinkle on top of it that I will post too. Just a warning though it does have nutritional yeast in it which is not raw but is like miso in that it is "living" so some raw people do it eat it. Let me know if that is a problem for you beforehand and I will not bother to spend all that time typing it into the computer.

Intake yesterday:

green smoothie
vanilla/tahini/agave/banana shake
kale chips
avocado/dulse/onion w/basil vinaigrette

Apology for my outbreak on the 2nd but I was expiating anger, pride, emotional and physical discomfort all at the same time. I am feeling much better now and my energy and clarity level are becoming stronger. In fact, I feel euphoric as times, esp. in between meals.

I am still Raw and have been able to get a least 11 people (friends, family, and co-workers) to be my Raw Buddies. They can eat Raw but are not allowed to give me Raw and know to yell at me if they see me going for Raw food. (They all agreed).

At the party on the 1st even though I was prideful for not having any of the exotic and varied dishes, I was hassled literally by an AP reporter who was there. He took pride in making smoked something (I think it was beef) and walked around pressuring everyone to try. I was hanging with a bunch of people in the kitchen and he put it in my face. After I said, no thank you, he wouldn’t take this for an answer so I immediately told him I was a vegetarian and have been for two years. He insisted. To top this off the host was standing nearby and innocently said, no he’s not a raw food eater.

I don’t want to get more into details but I have to not only explain it to the best of my ability but there was the wife of the reporter who was familiar with it and totally opposed it.

I kept a low pro and didn’t fall in. So again my apologies. Lastly, still feeling prideful I arrived home later than usual last night and my wife had made Stuff Shells with cooked tomatoes and mushrooms. This was one of my favorite dishes. I immediately ate an avocado and a fist full of raw Cashews.

It’s really tough at times but what I think helps me is that for me going Raw is not about losing weight, but more about my medical condition. I have some severe medical problems and they literally disappear when I eat Raw. Then other encouragement is the support from this forum and lastly my strong desire to stay healthy so I can see my children grow old and be there to support them.

For those who have had Raw since the 1st remember that failure is not defeat, not persevering is.

:)

hello everyone. i'm new, but i've been lurking for a while. lifeAgift told me about this site, and i believe i have seen swingbolder around on nappturality.

at any rate, on january 1, 2007, i made the decision to become raw. not so much with a time frame in mind, but i feel like a year long thing may be the answer for me. we will see as time goes on...

my partner started in on the journey with me, and i think she has a goal of a year in mind. i was just happy to get someone on my bandwagon.

i brought a book. raw food made easy, and have been using it for recipes and ideas. most of the time, i just make something up, and throw it together for dinner. a lot of time, i don't have time to put thought and planning into the meals.

my main goal is weight loss, and just a general lifestyle change. i want to be healthier and feel and look alive.

i'll be checking in with you all...

oh, and to answer the workout question.. no, I"m not working out but it's because I've got this awful cold! Otherwise I would be trying to use my nordictrack. I'll let you know once I start working out how working out on raw is for me.

I hope everyone is having a great 4th day raw!

Hi Giggleblue, welcome to the forum.

SwingBolder,
Tell us about your Kale Chips? Is it in Alissa's book and I"m just missing it?

Hi Walkingcooper,

The kale chips recipe I use is not (IIRC) in Alissa's book. Basically, I take a bunch of kale, break into bite-sized pieces (fairly large bc they shrink in the dehydrator) and marinate for about 1/2 hour in a mixture of olive oil, salt and apple cider vinegar. Proportions really depend on how salty and greasy you want them. I keep the spines on the kale bc they make very good "handles" for the chips. However, the spines are sharp so I don't usually eat them. Some people prefer to take them out altogether but that's too much work for me.

Then I throw them in the dehydrator until very crispy, usually overnight.

They are salty and greasy and fulfill all potato chip/popcorn type urges.

This is how I do my kale chips...no real recipe...I like mine without the "spine" so when they are "done" I can just pop them in my mouth!! They are soooo much like a chip, I forget I'm eating a "green"! Good luck with those....I'm off to another grocery store to find some decent kale!!!
It's good to see everyone here! I don't feel like I'm doing so well....I'm trying to kick caffeine, and not doing so well at "kicking" it! Hang in there Tvillemom. Detoxing from caffeine hurts! But once you get past the headache, it's pretty cool to be able to wake up feeling normal instead of having to wait until that first cup of coffee. Ok, so this morning I took five herbal detox capsules and had to drink 2 CUPS of olive oil and 1 cup of grapefruit juice. I think I may be sick. :( I called the doctor and he said to suck on a lemon and to keep moving around - that the feeling should pass in about an hour. I can't tell you how yucky I feel right now! He said the first time you do this, it's the hardest. I certainly hope so.

Is anyone else doing a cleanse like this? I would love to hear your thoughts. I am going to move forward and DO THIS!

Today is day 1. I've done the vegan thing for about a year, but am entering in on a quasi-SAD diet. I eat a lot of crap, but a ton of healthy food too. I am a stay at home mom to my 4 year old daughter and my son who is 9months old today and totally breastfed. :D

I am going to need a ton of support, this isn't going to go over well with family--especially my dairy farmer father

my goals are:
weightloss, gain energy, rid toxins, rid candida, heal muscle and joint soreness, clear my head, and to find balance.

i can't grocery shop until thursday so it'll be slim pickins around here--i didn't plan in advance--hopefully the nuts will help tide me over. i'll have to figure out how to get my picture up.

i'm looking forward to meeting you all!

Veeg: an "elite" group...hehe I like that!

Maraw: 2 CUPS of olive oil?? I don't think I could do it! I remember how hard it was for me to try and take a spoon full of flax. Blech! Just try and focus on the outcome and how great you will feel. How many times do you have to do that?

MaRaw...don't know how you did it...All that olive oil; Hope you're feeling better now. Let us know what came out of it!

I'm starting a "First Cleanse" by Renew Life tomorrow; in addition, they have a "leaky gut" support and a fiber powder to help carry the toxins out. I decided to do this to help with the effects of the detox I'm experiencing. Still having headaches on and off, and kinda tired. I will say there have been a few nice energy boosts here and there; but, not the overal "awake and clear" I've felt when going raw before. I work at two jobs, and have a very messed up sleep schedule; so that might be contributing to the fatigue problem. Not sure what I can do about that just yet.

Can you eat too many nuts? I was just thinking about it because I'm leaning so much on them for my protein and hunger satisfaction. My appetite is just now starting to level out a bit.

Typical day is like this:

@ 2am 2 grapefruit w/ half avacado. (this is during 3rd shift at the hospital)
@ 8am apple with raisins and almonds(1/4 cup)
Lunch is a large salad w/mock salmon pate and/or flax crackers
@ 2pm I'll usually have a piece of fruit and/or some nuts(1/4 cup)
most evenings that I have to work I sleep from 5-10pm so I don't usually eat "dinner"
@10 pm I might have a piece of fruit or something quick just to hold me over till my 2am meal.I'm so thankful that we have this forum for support and encouragment! I wish you all the best as we enter into the second week!

Things did turn out well, but I have to say - yesterday was a REALLY bad day! I felt just awful. The doctor told me that it was toxins from my colon being released into my blood stream and that I need to just continue on until they were moving out. They did, and I feel much better today.

I too have supplements to take for the next six weeks. I am eating light (really because I don't feel much like eating at all) and staying quiet. I will begin a daily yoga/exercise routine tomorrow. My family has been great - I must admit.

I hope your beginnings are better and smoother than mine!

Best wishes.

Hi everyone!
Hope you all are doing well and enjoying the raw ride.
Hope you are feeling better maraw, cleansing can be tough but SO worth it. I did a 2 week cleanse last month and had a serious detox reaction and felt beyond awful and still had to go to work :( but the next day I felt amazing and even did a 1 1/2 hour exercise class (and I don't work out often)
So know that you will come out the other side feeling much better.

I am feeling so great on raw this time around. I have been on and off this path for 2+ years. This time is different, as it is each time, but now I feel momentum and drive to reach my health and happiness goals. And I feel so relieved. AND I get to eat pizza (maraw's crust recipe is awesome!) and chocolate cake!!!!!!!!! And the thought of eating them doesn't make me crazy like with cooked.

Let's all keep on keepin' on!

Me too! I don't if it's just getting my mind around it, or the cleanse or what - but I feel very comfortable with my raw stuff lately. Very secure in it. Even though I still cook for family, I'm not tempted - in fact, it smells pretty bad to me. I have to get my husband and children to taste everything to see how it is coming along...

As for this evening, I am having my "mock chicken salad" with a touch of tahini - really good - I may have to modify the recipe!

You guys have a wonderful Sunday evening -

today I weigh 197.5 --- 5 pounds down from starting weight of 202.5.

More important than the numbers, I really feel so much better than I've felt in a long time. When I had gone back to cooked foods I was achy most of the time; I was irritable and it was hard to focus. Also, making decisions about what to eat seemed to consume a good deal of my time. I'd have these internal debates about what was "good" and what was "bad". Now I start may day with fresh fruit and during the day I'll eat some more fruit, maybe some nuts and a salad. At night I grab some more fruit or a salad. Things are simpler and less stressful.

Let's all keep this going!

Wish I could say the same. I was extremely sick today. My stomach felt like it was tied in knots, I had severe gestational pain and very lethargic. I was totally out of my usually demeanor to say the least. I was even foggy mentally. If this is detoxification, I hope this is the worst of it.

Feel better now, surprisingly after having dried fruit and tons of water. I think perhaps my water intake might not be up to par. How much water does one consume when first going raw? I drink according to how my body desires it.

Hi Tito,

Sorry to hear about the issues that you're facing.
For me, much of my daily intake is juicy fruit...so I actually think I'm drinking less water than I used to when I ate cooked. However, whenever I feel lousy I increase my water intake in order to flush out whatever is causing the problem. It usually helps.

Stick with it! It's worth it!

Hi all. I have been posting in the "jump in in January" thread. I just wanted to post here....I am committed to 1 year raw.
I have been on a slight emotional roller coaster. Hoping to "let it all out" . I am trying to drink as much juice today as possible.....water, to flush it out. Hoping for a "happier day" tomorrow. The weather here is also overcast, which always seems to affect my mood!
I will try my best to check in more often.
God Bless.

Maraw What kind of cleanse are you doing?? I am very interested in doing a cleanse. I have a skin rash....and an intergrative Dr. told me "candida". I have done a candida cleanse before, and I might do that again, hoping for better results (last time I was not RAW). I was wondering what you are doing, having to down 2 cups of olive oil???? Sounds harsh??? Hope you are feeling better soon. I would like to cleanse more than the candida....wanting more GOOD RAWSOME health!!

okay, so i'm not totally keeping track of the days, but i do have to say that i am still hanging in here.

everything has been trucking along quite well. i fell the weakest if i am hungry, because then, i want to eat anything that i can get my hands on. i have since began carrying nuts and bananas with me at all times. i feel like a little kid with snacks!

i have been feeling pretty well, and finding that i need less sleep at night to feel rested. i have started to love salads with about half of an avocado mashed on top!!! i think i eat salads like that on close to a daily basis.

i didn't weigh myself in the begining because i didn't have a scale, but on saturday i purchased one. on saturday, i weighed in at 229. this morning, i was 227.

i'm trying not to become OCD about weighing myself, but it seems as if i am having good results. i'm sad that i didn't have an official starting weight...

Day 10!
Have been cruising and loving raw and how I feel. The things that have helped the most is to have a lot of raw around and a variety of things prepared, sweet and savory. Also, keeping a strong vision of my goals and journaling has made a huge difference.
I hit a wall today, mostly of the emotional variety but I championed through!
I'm so proud of myself! :)

Welcome E.T.!
Feel free to ask lots of questions so you can get specific answers and support. Always try and do a search (the 'banana') b/c a lot of your questions will get answered there.

Hope everyone had a great day and I feel blessed to be able to share this journey with you!

Good morning. Day 11 here!!
How is everyone??
I'm doing great. This week I finally buckled down and gave up caffeine! I had an awesome headache yesterday, but today, I feel MUCH better, and ready to take on the world! I've dropped a few lbs. this week, probably due to giving up the soda, AND I've been exercising alittle everyday! Exercise really does help!
Yesterday's food:
water, carrot/apple juice,
pumkin seeds (about 2 handfuls)
raisins...about 3 handfuls
(I ate the seeds and raisins at the same time, and really craved them during the time I was trying to get rid of the headache!)
Dinner: banana/cherry icecream.

Hope everyone is doing great.
Maraw, how's the cleanse going???
Adrienne, great to hear you doing so well. Keep on truckin' girl!! :D
giggleblue, good for you to be prepared. That's when I usually "fail" or slip, is when I'm out, and starving, and NOT prepared!! Good for you!
Sorry to leave anyone out, I've gotta get going.

This stupid cold has really got me down, but each day I am feeling better and better. Today I just had to make something special since my appetite is coming back. Made the veggie lasagne from Raw Food Real World--oh it is awsome. Made just half the recipe and it is still quite a bit. One piece is pretty darn filling.

Eating pretty light except the lasagne today. Starting each day with red grapefruit juice--seems like a wonderful addication. Need to maybe trade off days and start with a big green smoothie.

Hope everyone is doing well and cold-free.

Lady Green Jeans: I sure hope you feel better soon. I was thinking of buying that book...RFRW...or Rawvolution....I hear alot of recipes RAVED about here from those 2 books. Feel better soon.
I need to prepare some food. I'm getting bored with "plain" foods...and this would be the time for me to slip. So I'm off to find my books....and make something new.
Yesterday's food:
B: green juice
L: water....vegan chocolate (not much...just a couple bites)
D: green salad with kohlrabi, apple, sprinkled with nutritional yeast, and dehydrated pumpkin seeds...yum.

tvillemom,

Thank you. Taking it slow and taking care of myself. Feel a little better each day.

RFRW is a beautiful book. Have only made a handful of recipes from it, though. Usually make one of my favorites from Alissa's book (it sure looks well-loved over the last year--all spilled on and marked up with recipe notes).

The lasagna from RFRW was good--I cut the salt in half or better and was on-target. Needed a change and it was nice to putter in the kitchen doing something fun. Also made some lemon cookies that didn't need dehydrating--quite yummy and tart. Next thing I make will probably be some kind of cracker.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Felt ****ty all week, esp. from eating from a certain fruit-n-veggie place near a residual place but this turned out to be bad as I felt sick each time. Switch to a whole-food Mexican supermaket (Supremo) and felt better the very next day. Hmmmm... Gotta watch those places and stick with "Whole Foods" "Organic only"

Brought some bongoses (bongos) and me and my daugther had a extremely awesome time dancing and jumping. I really started to feel better...

She wants to click the smile icon of her choice for this post.

Just wanted to check in and said I won another week of being raw. It's tough sometimes as my old favorite foods are literary kicked in my face, sorry for my spelling the little one is insistent on clicking that damm smilely icon.

Good night everyone and remember that defeat is not losing only giving up is.

Hey guys - just checking in! It's been a great week, with just one or two (not horrible) slips. I have had so much energy, I'm waking up at 4 a.m. and getting all kinds of work done! Plus, the excitement around the magazine is really building and I'm getting super pumped! I believe it's also because of the way I'm eating. Really enjoying being creative again in the kitchen. I've been sick for so many months now, I forgot how much I love flavors!!!

All is well here - I hope everyone else is staying healthy and positive and strong!!

week two weight = 195.5 ....down seven pounds from day one :)

but this week was tough and I had a couple of slips...so I am resolved to:

concentrate on having as many mono meals as possible
when in doubt (i.e. certain dressings), don't have it
eating less dried fruit, more juicy fresh fruits

keep it up everybody!!!

Starting the day early again. Lots to do on my holiday off today starting with taking Tess (the Springer Spaniel in my life) to the vet. Cleaning and sorting papers are both big on the list.

Continue to start the day with red grapefruit juice. Have been making various soups as the cold weather seems to have me leaning toward them. I actually do not even serve them much over tepid but really have enjoyed them. Alissa's broccoli soup is top of my list right now. Carrot ginger is probably second.

Hope everyone is doing great. Lay Lay, where are you?

Here we are!
Day 15/2 weeks - wow!
This time around for me is the 'rawest' I've ever been. Have been feeling good but currently going through some detox, emotional and physical BUT keeping the faith. :)
Eating a lot of coconut chocolate pudding and it is SO yummy. What is good is that I am able to eat less and less of it all the time b/c:
1. I am actually getting nutrients out of it so my body is satisfied
2. There is no 'guilt' or beating myself up for eating this so I can let go and enjoy!!
Raw is SO freeing.
I hope everyone is doing great and enjoying their journey.

So proud of making it these two weeks; feel like those were the hardest. I have "the resolution" to keep going to my goal and beyond.
Still having some "down" days with detox. Tired mostly, and sometimes sad. Have yet to have that "overwelming" feeling of well-being, like I had last time I went raw.
Considering that it might be my sleep schedule (it's off because of my two jobs) or eating too many nuts. Nuts are in so many of the recipe's....

Any suggestions about the nut thing?

Appetite definitly smaller, and that's a big help.

Wishing you all the best,

Like many others I've had some ups and downs already this year but I am resolved to keep this going!!!
My weight loss seems to have slowed down considerably, but I know that this is a journey that will see many changes and some will be faster and easier than others!!!
As far as detox goes, the only negative effect for me has been that my skin is breaking out!
I am resolved and committed to make 2007 my year!!! :D

Hi friends...

I started the year badly because I got a cold from my fiance and I stopped doing raw... but I'm back and back in the challenge! Last sunday I started raw again .. so I"m only on my fifth day technically speaking... but I'm doing great and loving it!

I did have a slip up yesterday but it was due to not being prepared and having things at home to use rather than being tempted to eat sad food.

Today is day five and I'm feeling positive and happy and like I know I can do this! :D

I started raw again, on Dec. 27th. I'd love to join this thread and the 30 day ones! My goal is to get my energy back and lose weight in the process. And to make this my lifestyle, not a diet. And it hasn't felt like one either!

On Dec. 27th, I was 238.9. Today I was 225.8, just to give you an idea of how it's been going in THAT department! And my energy has been up and down. I can tell when I'm detoxing. I'm tired as all get out on those days!

Well, I hope ya'll don't mind me joining your group? If so, just let me know.

Anyhow, today I'm off to my Level 1 class! I am so stoked, I woke up and hour before the alarm clock. That was set for 4 am! Anyhow, I'm super excited about that! Hello all,
After almost a week, with a ache/pain in my right groin/thigh area, I went to my homeopathic dr. for advise. She said that it's probably my lyph-node there and that while I'm detoxing it might continue. She suggested echinacea 4x a day.
I'm already feeling relief; which might also be improved by the sleep I got last night.

Still feeling sluggish and not "lighter" yet; she suggested that I cut back on the sugary fruits (pears, raisins) and increase my veggie intake. She also mentioned that I should watch how many nuts I'm eating. I had been depending on them too much for my protein, and too curb my between meal hunger.

I made a juice yesterday afternoon of Kale, Napa cabbage, garlic and carrot. Didn't taste that great, but I felt satisfied. Managed to sleep almost 10 hours....can't believe that. I usually have to manage on 3 or 5 hours most nights/days because of my two jobs.

One slip up this past week, 2 bites (literally) of birthday (not mine) cake. Felt icky a half-hour later. Woke up one morning dreaming of doritos....but didn't fall for it!

How are you all fitting exercise in?
Thanks,

Vegan Princess and all!

Hi! My day yesterday was AWESOME! :D The class was GREAT, the food was DELISH! The farmer's market was.......how would I describe it? Let's just say I felt like I died and had gone to HEAVEN! We move to Atlanta in April and that place is where I will be doing the majority of my grocery shopping, I'm sure!

My 11 yr. old ds went with me, and when we got home (7pm, he got up at 3:45 am to get ready), he said he felt so much energy and he felt "transformed"! How cool is that for a mom to hear!

Today is going to be spent making my own tahini, and then the dressing that I need it for, then when hubby gets home later with my celery, making Alissa's Mock Salmon Pate. I just LOVED that! It's so good! I can't wait for DH to try it.

Hope everyone has an awesome RAWSOME raw day!

Have been feeling almost back to 100% from the cold. Enjoying grapefruit juice just about every morning. Am making my second batch of 'the world's greatest raw not meat loaf" shaped into patties again. Added Italian herbs this time so will see how well I like it. Made 1/2 Alissa's calzone recipe yesterday, shaped into pizza crusts and had my first raw pizza with marinara and avo. Had a small crust cut in half as a sandwich for breakfast with lettuce, tomato and avo--quite good. Will be making a borscht later today for lunch tomorrow.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Hello to everyone and I hope you all are having a wonderful January - no matter which way your path has lead you :)
My raw journey has been an interesting one - as usual.
Great things:
unwanted pounds are "releasing" :D :D :D
skin is clearer, eyes brighter (husband said yesterday 'your eyes look pretty')
bouts of having lots of energy
NO physical symptoms of PMS
Interesting things:
lots of emotional symptoms of PMS :(
lots of emotional detox type stuff - trying to just go with it instead of wallowing
feeling that true path is calling and making me switch gears a bit
emmense fatigue at times (have been able to rest which is good)
So there it is, the 3 week review. Been really happy with eating raw and been trying to keep up with being prepared so can take on cravings and emotional eating as well as possible. Feel good that lately sometimes all it takes is eating one or two medjool dates to move on from a craving or emotional eating situation :D

Hi everyone! I am so excited! I am five days shy of one month 100% raw and not really missing cooked foods so much now! I still love the smell of some things though. But I know how they would make me feel if I ate them, so I'm not tempted at all!

Hope everyone else is doing great! I made the Thick Pesto Pasta last night for dinner and it was SO good! I couldn't eat as much as I put on my plate though. It was SO filling that a little bit really does go a very long way in filling you up! So that was kinda cool!

Hope everybody has an awesome raw day!

So far this weekend I've felt much better. I think it's been a combination of getting some much needed sleep and juicing more.
The pain in my leg has subsided; won't really know if it's gone until I go back to my work schedule tomorrow.

I'm planning to walk to the hospital on the nights that I can; in addition I'll be calling my yoga instructor to work on fitting a class or two in a week. I think just starting and getting out there again will make all the difference.

My homeopathic dr. is monitoring me, and feels that I'm just going through a longer period of detox. I had been eating worse before going raw this time; so I'm resolved to ride this out.

My Sunday slip up after church was totally "comfy" related. It was cold and I was craving soup and bread.... I had a bowl of organic tomotoe soup with some vegan flatbreads.... within 30 mins. I felt heavy, icky, and took a nap. When I woke up I was craving oranges...so I had two and that was all I ate the rest of the night; Felt so much better...

Wishing you all the best this week,

Lay-Lay

Where is LayLay???
haven't seen her around lately

Hey, I'm around. I have been having some issues that I have been working on. I am highly allergic to the smell a local company puts off from their factory. I have been battling with them and the EPA for years on it. Finally they calmed the smell down, but now they are in full force with it again. It gives me these horrible migraines along with others. It also causes me to pass out. So I have been pretty sick with it lately. I am yet again calling again today. Sorry I haven't checked in. :o

WoW!!!

I feel like I finally broke through. I feel that I have a ton of energy both in my head and body. I didn't know it was going to feel this good. I have been struggling with the detox and now feel like I am discarding my lesser shell.

How awful. Your presence has been missed. I hope you get this resolved and feel better and healthier soon.

Today has been one of those days where I've felt hungry for much of the day. I'll eat, think I'm full, then an hour or so later, I'm hungry again! So guess what I did? I ate EVERY time I felt hungry. A couple of times I drank water first to make sure, but I was hungry EVERY time! So I ate! I'm FINALLY full! I love being raw though. It's been fun to listen to my body's cues and take it from there. Usually when I have a day like this one, I'm not quite so hungry the next day. We'll see! LOL!

Hope everyone has an awesome raw day tomorrow!

Last night, out of nowhere, he told me that I'm doing a great job! I said "with what"? He said, "for doing one month raw". I told him he was a few days early, and he said he didn't care, cause he's seen how I've been this time around raw and that even HE knows there's no way I wouldn't make it the month and then some! I really do love that man! He was not supportive really last time I went raw, and this time he is SO different, and nice, and kind, and caring, and SUPER supportive!

I just had to share. It's moments like that and the fact that I am loving what I'm eating and how I'm feeling that are making 2007 THE YEAR for me to be raw AND STAY RAW! I love it!

It's almost the end of MONTH NUMERO UNO!!!
I don't know about the rest of you guys...but I haven't been perfect. However "philosophically" I'm committed to being 100% raw. So I don't know if I've disqualified myself from this thread...but I have to say this month is the closest I've been to totally raw in a long. long time. And I'm doing better everyday. I have a good amount of weight to lose (about 50 lbs) but I'm not totally focusing on the number yet because I know it melts off through this process.
I hope this rant made some sense!
PEACE!!!!

Hello everyone -- I wish I'd found this thread before the new year began. I also had this all raw in 2007 goal and haven't done that well so far (and I've gained 5 pounds in the process). I've had a few raw days, but not even consecutively. :( And now not only are my old health problems coming back, but I've found a new one, grrr! My hands are getting numb during the night and hurt a bit during the day. From what I can tell, the symptoms are Carpel Tunnel, so I can't even type as much as I want to tonight. (Grrrr again! :D )

So I'll be brief (if that's even possible :)) -- I'm starting right now and am going to first focus on going 30 days. I've started Alyssa's 30 Day Journal so many times, I can't even count and eventually deleted my journal because it felt so pointless to keep it. But I'm here now with you and am ready to watch my health problems go away once again and for good! I'll share more about that when my hands aren't tingling like they are now.

Can't wait to be on this journey with you all!

LovingLife welcome! I am finding it is not in perfection, but in each step of the journey. I weakened today and ate chips and cookies and feel so physically awful. Starting over and knowing the good feeling will return keeps me motivated.

lovinglife welcome and know that we are all here for you and all our goals are health, not perfection so share all of your victories and challenges with us! no doubt we've all been there (or are there or are going there at some point!!!)

I cannot believe January is almost over. When it is over it will be my very first 30 days really raw! I hope I'm not putting the cart before the horse but I feel there's no stopping me now!

Hope everyone is well and having a peaceful weekend.

Today was strange for me. I usually eat somewhat balanced during the day. Not all light until dinner or all heavy until dinner type thing. But today wasn't like that. I ate pretty light until dinner, when I had a HUGE salad and then whipped up a strange but delicious dessert concoction. Tomorrow marks my one month raw! Yay me! I started Dec. 27th!

Hope everyone had a wonderful raw day.

I had a shake for breakfast (sesame milk, frozen banana, a little raw cacao powder and some raw agave nectar)
Lunch - 3 tomatoes sliced drizzled with olive oil and sea salt
Dinner- Huge Salad
Dessert-raw cacao powder mixed with raw agave and raw honey and then mashed banana mixed in (it sounds icky, but was REALLY yummy!)
Snack - Raw sunflower seeds

Thanks for all the welcomes! Congrats to Adrienne and Sunshine on your 30 days!

My day sailed pretty smoothly until I went shopping during my daughters' piano lessons. It had been a few hours since I'd eaten, but I thought I'd be fine. (I should have brought raw snacks, I know). I took my younger daughter's friend (7) with me to a store that's going out of business and we browsed all the 1/2 off goods. I started feeling tingly and weak and light-headed, but kept going. I finally got to a point where I thought I was going to fall over. I held onto a counter for awhile, but that didn't help. I went and sat down near the window display and that didn't help either. I wanted to lie down, but didn't think that would be appropriate. So I asked my daughter's friend if she'd ask the store clerk to come talk to me (I knew if I stood up, I'd fall over -- my whole body was tingly). I told the clerk what was going on and asked if she had any water in the back that she could bring me to drink. She did. She told me that it sounded like I had low blood sugar and told me they had little straws of honey for sale that might help. So after drinking the water, she gave me one of those and I quickly ate it. It helped enough that I could stand, buy my things and get back to the car. She also recommended juice and I had some in the car (not raw, but at least it was 100% juice so I don't need to fret about refined suger :)) -- the juice seemed to help even more.

So I'm not sure if that was detox, just not eating enough or a combination of the two. Usually for detox, I get head-achey, grumpy, weepy, or tired. This was a new one. But besides the bit of honey and the juice, I stayed raw and feel really good about it. I'm considering it an all raw day for me.

I came home and cracked open a baby coconut and that was SO refreshing. I should keep some of that on hand in the car in a thermos or something!

I'm excited that I made it through and am looking forward to tomorrow!

that I am sitting here typing in my RED JEANS!!!
I know this may not seem so exciting but I have not been able to wear these pants in years! So today is day 2 of wearing them and yes, I will be wearing them tomorrow! :D
And I just had a piece of chocolate torte (recipe from http://therawchef.blogs.com)
How cool is that???? Eating chocolate cake and fitting into your old jeans?
It is quite liberating!
I have some of Alissa's pesto stuffed mushroom caps in the dehydrator and they are SOOOOOOOO yummy.
Hope everyone is doing awesome/"rawesome"!

I had those weird dreams last night where I've cheated but don't realize it until after I've eaten. Elaine explained before why I could be having those dreams. The difference this time is that I didn't care in the dream like I had before in the other dreams. I just said "Tomorrow is a new day". I guess that's progress from beating myself up about it, even in my dreams. I haven't cheated though, in real life.

When I woke up, I had a strange taste in my mouth and felt REALLY full! How's that for weird?

Had a very rough weekend at the hospital; threw my hip out of whack. Felt depressed and wound up eating some fries. But, I've brushed myself off, and am back on track. Better today after an adjustment at the chiro. Getting a little bored with some of my food. Ate too much celtic sea salt on my veggies the other day; felt bloated...ugh

Thought I would have lost more by now, but I'm thankful still.
It's nice to start fitting into some smaller clothes.

Hope everyone is doing well...And gearing up for Feb... Any valentines plans?

I've managed to meet two of my four goals this month....

It doesn't have to be perfect, I know today was a real nailbiter for me (literally and figuratively) but I made it through all raw :)
Congrats to you guys for making it through January. Let's keep up the momentum through Febuary!

I can't believe the amount of bananas I've eaten this month. I could eat them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner:D.

I ate mostly SAD today....it's been a struggle to get back on track, but everyday, I take baby steps. After eating meat earlier this week, I need to be a bit more careful. I'm still having headaches:eek:.

I had to get some bananas yesterday since I have been craving them and none left in the freezer. They will be a couple days to ripen.......in the meantime, I have been enjoying corn chowder, Alissa's spinach dip (I add about 1/2 c. ground cashews for creaminess) on cucumber rounds, and will be searching for dinner ideas after I read some more posts here. Feeling tired still and a worrisome tightness is remaining in my chest, but overall am happy to be on track. One meal at a time, one day at a time.

Sunshine -- I usually have those dreams too (and am so relieved when I wake up to know I really didn't cheat). But the other night I had a different kind of eating dream. I dreamt that I went to some class/seminar that my dh and children were attending at a health club and found that it was a presentation on raw foodism. My kids said, "Our mom does that" and the health club owners were excited to meet me and wanted me to do a future presentation. Quickly through my mind I thought of the SAD food I'd eaten that day and recommitted to really stick with this. I woke up so motivated to succeed with my raw journey and really do want to share it with others. There's such a need for better health (Starting with ME! :D )

I did well today after a few days off this weekend. All raw today!!! :) :) :)

I am so excited to take raw as far as I can and then some!
Today was a challenge and it was wicked hard not to cave to the emotional food cravings I was having and did overeat but kept it raw except for a few splashes of bottled vinagrette dressing. I consider this a huge victory! :D
Hope everyone is enjoying their raw journey, and if not completely enjoying it ;) at least respecting the process and not fighting with it too hard (um, note to self...).

even though I have not been 100% raw. I HAVE been able to stay predominantly raw. This is mostly because of the personal growth developement I have been doing. Some of it with Revvell - working with her playbook and teleclasses. Doing appreciations at the beginging and end of each day has been the BEST thing ever. It reduces my anxiety, helps me focus on the wonderful things in my life, allows room in my life for more good stuff ("what you focus on expands!!!") and it just lightens my day.
All the other times I've 'gone raw' and deviated from it, I've gone off the deep end and just eat the worst stuff! This time it is different, it feels different even though I have dabbled in some of my trigger foods. Because I am focusing on love and trust, esp. for myself, I feel my body is getting the message that what I happen to be taking in at the time is good for me! There is no longer the message of 'you are bad and wrong, what's the point of staying raw now etc.' It feels good. So I know I will dabble a little more and that is just fine because I am strong and confident in my raw journey.

So post here, your victories, your struggles and don't forget to go to the Appreciation thread and list yours there or even just at home in a notebook. It works! Ask Revvell - she knows!

Best to you and look forward to reading some posts!
Adrienne

-I don't know much!
-and that is okay.
-each and every person on the raw food journey has a different experience, has different needs and intuitively knows what is best for them (even if THEY don't know it yet...note to self)
-when I eat cooked food the back of my neck aches (interestingly enough, when I eat too much fat or heavy raw food the same thing happens)
-when I eat cooked food the sparkle in my eyes diminishes, I get bloated, I am a different kind of cranky (then when raw :D), my outlook on life changes and not for the better
-one of the lessons in my life is balance and I would like to achieve more of it so I am trying to be patient with my journey
-exercise on the raw diet is imperative (note to self)
-my new haircut rawks

Thank you Sunshine and way to go on 3 months raw!
I gain more and more insight everyday on my raw journey. I am trying my best to tread lightly on myself and take it one meal/snack/smoothie at a time.
Thanks for your response.
