i've been a vegetarian since 1990 and vegan for over 3 years. going raw will be my next step. i started eating mostly organic last year and limited eating out tremendously, so i don't think it will be too much of a change. it will be quite a challenge, though. it's hard enough being vegan/eating organic in my city as organic produce is limited and there aren't many vegan restaurant options. thankfully, organic food is becoming more popular here and i see more and more of it now :)

my first attempt will begin january 1. i want to start the new year off right! i am very anxious and excited about it. i'm glad i can come here for the info, advice, and support i'll need. i have already been so inspired just by reading some of the blogs here, and i hope i can keep up with mine, too. wish me luck!

since you are in texas, check out purerawcafe.com. the chef/owner posts on these boards (rawfoodchef) she makes and ships the most amazing gourmet raw food..and she's in texas! it always helps me to stay on track to have some really creative, gourmet meals that someone else made to remind me that it's possible to make really unbelievable great raw dishes that are better than sad food. i like to try to order once in a while to treat myself, and try to copy her recipes :)

I'm new to this board. I"m a California girl living in Texas and raw food restaurants and health food stores are not as plentiful here as they are in california. anyway, I just finished a 10-day master cleanse and heard about this board on the master cleanse board. I'm definitely interested in going raw. however, i'm going to have to take it slow. i love vegetables but don't like most of them raw. guess i'll have to learn to like them. i don't plan to start with all organic because they are just too expensive. i also don't have alissa's book yet, will have to wait until after christmas to get it. i have tons of raw veggies in the frig. going to check out the recipes to see what i can do with what i have right now. i look forward to the journey from sad (don't know what that means) to raw. this is definitely going to be interestng.

thanks michigan. i have never been a big red meat eater except when very young. have been eating mostly chicken and fish and still love them both. i started on 12/20 eating about 90% raw. since then i have had a piece of baked trout, a couple small pieces of baked ham, and last night a small sliver of chocolate cake made from scratch that i baked at my grandson's request. other than that i've been eating totally raw. i didn't eat those things all on the same day though. about the raw veggies, most i can deal with but i love asparagus but hate them raw! i also can't do most squashs raw. anyway, a couple of things i have questions about:

1. does a hydrator use heat, and if so, how can the food prepared in it be considered raw?

2. i love brown rice and the cauliflower recipe (while i love cauliflower) doesn't quite take the place of the brown rice. i could not find spelt in my area and this may be the one thing that keeps me from being 100% raw. any other suggestions besides cauliflower?

3. i'm really not so into sweets and when i want something sweet i do fruit (which i've been doing any way).

i also do not have alissa's book. don't have $29 to spend on a book right now. any suggestions of websites where i can find recipes so i don't get bored trying to make this transition?

reena

on dehydrater they say if heat doesnt get above 115 plants are still considered raw . above 115 enzymes start being destroyed which renders it inorganic / not living

on rice ide guess , but im not into recipes / sprouting / dehydrating , you could sprout something like buckwheat or beans etc then chop the sprouts up into rice size bits

on recipes i dont pay attention much cuz im a mono eater so i dont look for them .

cheers :)
