Oh my! I L-O-V-E coconut milk. I buy powdered so I can mix with water. Simple and 100% raw. I can't have my usual milk, so I use coconut milk for smoothies and etc.. I love it so much. I drink it maybe twice a week, more if I knew it was super good for me, but Im starting to wonder if it really is healthy. Is there such thing as too much coconut milk? Is it bad for the heart like coconut butter and coconut oil?

I have never heard of powdered coconut milk.

I would venture to say that it is not Raw, just sounds processed to me-IMHO.

Coconut oil is proven to be good for the body. Google it & you'll see many articles. Enjoy your coconut! :)

If you have access to Baby Young Thai Coconuts-I would eat at least one a day. The nutritional value in the water alone is phenomenal- not to mention what you can do with the meat ...we are talking some fun recipes....YUMMMY

I cannot get them where I live. :(

I tried one young coconut a few weeks back and I must admit that I wasn't a big fan of the taste... Maybe I did something wrong...I don't know how since i was just a normal young coconut. Maybe I was expecting something sweeter. Although it was yummy with pineapple!

I found young thai cocnuts at Whole Foods and they were on sale for 99 cents each. I asked the produce peeps for help and they sliced the top part off to get me started and saved the milk in a container with a lid. I still had to hack away a bit to pull them in half. I had so much milk left over from 3 nuts and feared it may go bad so I used ice trays to freeze it into ice cubes for future use in smoothies. I made the most awesome pina coloda with pineapple, the ice cubes, and almond milk. OMG! I resisted going to the store and buying some dark rum ;) It was kinda hard but Good for me huh. te...he. Maybe one day these truly raw whole food products will be more accesible and mainstream in the USA. Until then, I am so glad you guys are out there for support and info.

I don't think coconut butter/oil is bad for the heart unless it is the stuff they did the research about and that was partially hydrogenated. Raw stuff is good for you.

Young coconut helped me with hunger cravings starting raw. There are alot of older threads on here about them. . . also links how to open . . .and when you purchase make sure that there is absolutely no discoloration or cracks. I think it is worth it to process them all as soon as you get home and freeze what you get even though I personally consider frozen food almost cooked. I stopped young coconut for several reasons - the biggest being that 9 out of 10 of them were bad - and it is alot of work to find that out.

Hey BlueKiss, I use an old mallet and whack the crap out of it after I have drained the juice. Saves a lot of time, and it's broken it in half every time I've tried it. Just be careful and make sure you're on a sturdy surface.

Mmmmmm... pina coladas.....

What about the coconut water they sell in the fridge at Wholefoods? I have been buying those. Thoughts? They seem to be a good thing and they are packaged like juice boxes!!!

Any packaged juice can have preservatives in it that they are not required to list.

After draining juice from nail holes the young coconut can be sawed open, chiseled and hammered open, or if you have the tools - there is a link here where they cut off alot of the hull and then they tap it with a cleaver type thingy and it opens!

What about the whole coconuts? I heard they have to spray those to keep them fresh as well. It's a long trip where they come from. Guess with coconuts, if you don't live near a tropical place, chances are they have been tampered with. :(

Hmmm....Spent quite a bit of time researching companies for coconut water/milk. I wish I lived in the UK. They have good sources to all-natural coconut water and milk. Even packaged I mean.

Does anyone know of any good packaged coconut water or milk or do you tend to make it all yourselves?

The Whole Foods Market in my area don't carry coconuts. Neither do any of the supermarkets. All they have are the ones with the hard brown shell:eek::(

Someone here on this board once wrote that their Whole Foods had an expensive raw food section. Mine doesn't. (Sniff..). I think each Whole Foods structures their store differently. Have you tried the Asian Markets?

Unfortunately, I found that young thai coconuts to have a bit of blueish tint on the bottoms of them. I get nervous to eat them. Makes me think of mold.........
