I tried alissa's raw pizza recipe today... I made the most simple crust using ground up flax seeds and followed the recipe exactly... it came out beautiful but I realize that maybe I just don't like flax seeds ( I also made the plain flax seed crackers with garlic and wasn't too keen on them either). I can eat and like the pizza (the "cheese" and "sauce" part) but can't eat the plain crust.

has anyone tried any of the other crusts? are they any better?

I really wanted this recipe to be *great* and not just good cause I love pizza and feel like I will totally miss it once I go 100% raw.

and I hate to admit it, but because I didn't LOVE this recipe, I'm starting to doubt if I can do the 30 day challenge without falling off the raw wagon. :( Maybe I'm just being dramatic, but I'm really worried now!

I haven't tried that recipe because regular pizza was never a favorite of mine. I have tried plain flax crackers though and they taste like nothing at all. I can eat them. It doesn't bother me to eat them. I'd just rather eat something else. I tried some other flax crackers that had onions, salt and sun dried tomatoes in them and they tasted pretty good. So you might try adding some of that stuff.

hmm, maybe if I grind the seeds and add sundried tomatoes? that might do the trick. thanks.... I think the garlic was just too much in the crackers.

it seems to me like alissa is quite the garlic fan, so now when I read in a recipe to add garlic... I always add less than what it says, taste it, and see if I want more.

I don't like garlic. I tried the nacho cheese with the amount of garlic she said to put in and it tasted bad to me. Tried it without the garlic and it tasted like it was missing something. So the next time I added just a touch of garlic. That's how I like it. But when I make it for others I put in all the garlic. Seems most people like it. But not me!

yeah.. garlic is good but in small doses for me as well.

once I went to a peace festival and had a slice of garlic pizza.. it was loaded with garlic and I ate it happily..but shortly after I felt so strange... my heart rate had risen quite a bit and I felt nauseous and sick! I really believe it was the garlic that did it to me.

I love flax seeds. To me they dont taste much like anything LOL. I sprinkle them whenever possible on almost everything I make. To me they are like tasteless extras on food. :p

luna99,

The awesome thing about raw is how you can experiment and be creative with it...

I too, am not a big fan of crackers/crusts with whole flax seeds. However, I've been experimenting with recipes that call for ground flax and have been really enjoying the results. Sometimes, I just put ground flax instead of the whole ones called for and it's worked so far.

Alissa's crust #2 which uses mainly buckwheat is great. My favorite pizza crust so far though is her calzone crust recipe which I spread real thin (1/8 " or so). Both call for some whole flax but again, you could easily replace with ground ones.

thanks.. I'll try the calzone crust next time.. I ate some of the pizza for lunch today and it was good.. I just threw the "crust" away. haha. ;)
