Yesterday was magical for me...I volunteer at my daughter's nursery in Encinitas, CA every other Saturday and yesterday her and her business partner surprised me with lunch from Cilantro Live in Carlsbad...GREAT!!!!...Plus, my daughter and friend eat SAD and this was a wonderful experience for them...we way over ordered (which is fun) and had lots of choices...
My favorite (maybe someone has the recipe?)...Mole enchiladas...this wonderful spicey sauce and when I sliced into them...bananas...oh my!!! what a treat...
Oh, and I had a margarita smoothie....green apple, lime juice, ginger...wonderful!!!!
Just wanted to share this ...Elaine

Hi Princess Elaine,
I grew up in San Diego. I had wanted to try the Cilantro in Chula Vista before I moved to San Francisco, but it was too far for me. I'm excited to try the one in Carlsbad when I'm down next. My mom tried it and didn't love it...and she adores the raw cafe up here. Maybe she just didn't like what she ordered. I also hear there is a small raw restaurant on the 101 in Leucadia. It is behind the Carribean place...I forgot the name of both now. Its only open for dinner.

Cindy, I'll check out that one in Leucadia...my daughter's nursery, Barrels and Branches is on Santa Fe right before El Camino Real...her and her friend have created a beautiful environment and I love working there and we're always looking for a new place to eat...I could pick something up there on my way home...
The only thing that was a problem at Cilantro was the time it took for them to prepare the food...yes, good food takes time but again, we were on our lunch break and we were getting take out so if we would of stayed there and ate...YIKES!!!... is that a problem in other raw restaurants???? I go to au Lac in Fountain Valley and Good Mood Food in Huntington Beach...so far, no long wait.

I tried the one in San Diego, too. Was not impressed. Maybe the one in Carlsbad is better. Will watch for other input and possibly try the new location.

I love Cilantro Live. I took my mom and aunt there to open their minds to the wonderful variety of raw foods. I liked the lasagna, tacos, enchiladas and of course the banana pie was delicious. If anyone ever makes it down to San Diego, Cilantro Live is definately worth trying.

I have been to 3 raw restaurants here in SF. I go to cafe gratitude almost every week. They have 3 (!!) locations here and are opening one in L.A. soon. It is very good! But I think they dehydrate and pre-prep everything at one central location and just assemble it at the cafes so it doesn't take long. Another, Alive prepares it all to order and they do take a good while. Probably standard so it's all fresh. I want to try Au Lac too when I'm down south!
