Hello all!
Well, im finally doing it. In the middle of running around the globe and back and forth to Ca for tapings and meetings and all sorts or craziness, I needed to put down some roots here, andÂ…. I needed a place to EAT! So Im opening a raw food restaurant.
I know there are many of you here who live far from Portsmouth NH but I know many of you live fairly close. So I hope to see you all there!
We are planning on opening some time in Feb although we just started the build out so ill know more in January.
Ill keep you posted!

Oh this is SO exciting! I live about 3 hours away but ill be there! Can you tell us more??
Alissa
12-14-2006, 04:53 PM
Sure!
The restaurant will be in the center of Portsmouth NH in bustling market square a few doors down form thePortsmouth health food store, 50 minutes north of Boston, MA.
There is parking behind the space which is rare in Portsmouth!
The restaurant will be 100% raw with a large sit down bar for juices, smoothies, magical tea elixirs and exotic non alcoholic drinks. There will be some couches and comfy seats along with plenty of dinner tables. We are in the process of getting copper table tops made and adding in some other unique touches. The bar may be copper also. We are building it out from scratch so we are fortunate to be able to build it the way we want it. ItÂ’s not huge but good size, 14000 sq feet. We are putting in a little glass fireplace in the center of the restaurant to create a warm, cozy feel.
There will be a take out area and we will be running the 30 day challenge out of there where people can come in and get all of their raw food twice a week for 30 days and do a whole structured program to jump start them.
One of the women who I worked with on the Tyra Show, Jhoise, lost a bunch of weight and is now a convert to raw foods. She is also a trained culinary chef in a 5 star restaurant in CA. She is coming out next week for an interview and is hoping to move her whole family out here so she can be my head chef. Lots of other exciting things, ill report in as we go. Feel free to ask me questions about the place, canÂ’t think of what else at the moment. The website will be up in a month or so. Oh, the name!
AlissaÂ’s Living Food Cuisine. The web site will be www.livingfoodcuisine.com

Congrats Alissa! I will be sure to tell my parents about it, since they live close to Maine. Or at least it's one of their possible vacation spots in the summer. Maybe I can even get them to sign up for one of the raw food lessons or retreats or just go visit the restaurant. :)
As for me, I'll be sure to stop by too! I just KNOW it will be amazing!

Alissa,
I knew you had something in pipeline, couldn't figure out what. This was a surprise. :)
There are such strong expansive vibes around the project, reminds me of the dynamics of Anthony Robbins... I don't know why.
To be concrete and not say too much, maybe you will find out a new concept for a raw food restaurant with
simple, unique, attractive details. I don't mean only the interior design, but an integrated business idea.
Like McDonaldÂ’s did radically change our concept of a restaurant.
Best of Luck!

We live in Central Maine. I have been hoping that now that you live here in Maine you would open something up. Hopefully I can get my hubby to drive me down there sometime to eat. It is about 3 hours I'd say.
On another line are you planning on opening up a bed and breakfast where you live? That would be so neat too.

Thanks everyone!
ItÂ’s so much fun sharing stuff with you guys! I could wait to tell you all!
IÂ’ve been so busy I havenÂ’t even called and told some of my friends and family. HavenÂ’t really put it out there yet but I knew youÂ’d all be so supportive!
Well your all welcome to come and visit! I promised Dennis I wonÂ’t be there night and day and that we would get good people to be there, but im sure it will be my home away from home. I already have my little hang out nook carved out! Again, im really just creating it so I have a place to play!
Here is a picture of the outside building, they are ripping stuff down right now inside, actually ill post that also so you can see the basics.
People always wondered why Dennis and I didn’t open one sooner as both of us have a lifetime of experience with restaurants. I grew up and spent my childhood in one and Dennis owned about 30 of them over the last decade. It’s a lot of work to do it right but now I feel like I can do it the way I always wanted. It so feels like the right time and as someone on here said, there are such “strong expansive vibes around the project”.
I wasn’t really planning on opening a restaurant and Dennis kept saying “no, please! No!” whenever I would see a cute little space for one. But it just kind of happened. The location is the best we could ask for and the energy just moved me in that direction. I was literally walking down the street and this space jumped out at me and I knew it was ‘time’.
Ill keep posting pictures here and once the site is up there will be lots of the inside.
Best,
Alissa

I know your new place is going to be a huge success - I only wish we lived a little closer -- maybe a franchise in the Houston area?
The pictures look lovely and I know you are going to make it warm and wonderful.

Wow. . . a raw franchise! I think that there is tremendous interest in raw and being able to go to a raw restaurant would really help many people decide if it is for them, or help them maintain it when they are busy, or give them an option for entertaining that is suitable to their raw tastes. . . . . hmmmm . . . .you may find yourself doing lots of raw weddings and other events! Lots of people dream of doing some kind of raw food enterprise but putting it all together in a franchise might help them get closer to it. Wouldn't it be nice to have a fresh juice bar on every other corner instead of a Starbucks? Will there be a fresh juice section for take-out?

Yes Alissa,
I can see it now, I run out of my office in the Sydney CBD in Oz. Come back to my desk with a killer slice of raw blue berry pie, or your choco chip cookies, or strawberry apricot fudge, and a salad with raspberry vinaigrette. For snacks there is your BBQ chick-un, or date nut torte or your wild rice salad.
I eat, I have tremendous energy all day, and I look absolutely divine, to boot.Back to my glamour days, when I stopped traffic, got compared to Naomi Campbell, no worries about weight gain, AAAAAH! :) :) :)
..............You beaut!!! :D :D :p
Oh but then I wake up from my marvelous dream, and there are no raw food restaurants in Sydney, no raw calzones, no raw cannolis, boo hooo!
So Alissa for all of us down under, when are you bringing your restaurant here????

Sure thing. Ill be taking photos during all of the stages of the ‘being born’ process!
Well, I said Feb. but since we just started ripping it apart and weÂ’re leaving for Italy next week it probably wonÂ’t be until the end of Feb, beginning of March but ill have a better time frame when we get back in Jan and see how things are progressing. But we move fast so although we just got in there a couple of weeks ago I think it will move ahead at light speed!
Hmm, Houston huh? Well, Dennis is already talking about one in Boston if this goes well. And to answer a previous question, no, heÂ’s not as thrilled as I am, he thinks weÂ’re already too busy! But as a business man he knows itÂ’s a good move and he knows it was inevitable with me bugging him about it for the last few months :p
I just started to look around, talk about it a lot and he kept looking at me like, “oh man, im in trouble”. He knows once the thought hits, im doing it!
(Oh, Maraw –I got your calendar! Ive been meaning to write and thank you, forgive me! Oh my god! It’s amazing, thank you for sending me one!!! I LOVE it! You’re so talented. WOW! It blew me away!)
Yes, im sure we will be doing catering there and all kinds of parties. Yep, long juice bar and you can take it to go. A sit down bar with smoothies, juice and actual non alcoholic drinks that mimic the real kind, like mimosas, bloody MaryÂ’s, etc. And then the magical tea elixir bar. Herb teas that will be prepared for specific ailments and conditions of the day. I think this is my childhood coming back to me, lol...Any of you ever watch bewitched? Do you remember when Samantha used to go shopping at the witches pharmacy and get all kinds of things from the jars there like bat wings and special powders? HAHHA!! Well, ive always wanted a shop like that, an herbal apothecary! So I'm incorporating that here, even though technically the dried herbs are not all raw. The rest of the restaurant will be all raw, 100%. No maple syrup, no nutritional yeast, etc.. But I had to do the tea bar, itÂ’s been haunting me for 30+ years! Lol!
Yeah, I expect you there Adrienne, youÂ’re a hop and a skip away, only 50 minutes from me! YouÂ’re welcome in my nook anytime! All of you are!
Carla, donÂ’t temp me. It wouldnÂ’t take much arm twisting, believe me. We were thinking of doing a training there this Feb and I just didnÂ’t have time to set it up. Well, you never know! And thanks for that fireplace link. I had a couple in mind but these look really interesting! Thanks for that!
Lets see, some other questions. Wow, this board gets filled quick, I need to answer faster. Miranda, anytime honey. It was great having you assist at the last training. You and Lisa were the power team!
Miss Linda, the name is "AlissaÂ’s Living Food Cuisine". Web site coming as soon as I sit my but down and create it.
We just use my B&B right now for certifications and events like that. WeÂ’ll see though, maybe someday.
Rawk and Roll window, I love it!
Anymore ideas you guys have that you want to give me, im open, any cool drink names and unique touches, etc.. Id love to hear it!
Thanks!

Congrats with the move, with your energy it can only become a great success! I can't promise I'll be around anytime soon, a 7-8 hour flight just seems a bit long for going to a restaurant :p But when I visit the states I will be sure to visit every 57 restaurants you have up running with raw food to live for ;) It sounds like the kinda place that would become my favorite place to hang out, great food and a cosy atmosphere! Rawk on and go strong!

Ok I have a neat little tip for ya! :D
Before you paint the walls there, take your paintbrush or a pen even & write in large letters your intention for the space. Like HEALTH, ABUNDANCE, JOY, HEALING etc. All over the walls! If you have a cosy sitting area choose certain words to go with that space. Same with the bathrooms! You could even do 'LETTING GO OF ALL THAT WEIGHS YOU DOWN' or "RELEASING" ect something to that effect! The words, even though not seen will resonate with a vibration in the rooms that will be felt by all!

Alissa,
English is not my native language, but I'll try to give you some ideas of creating drink names.
Combine words from the two groups below, with result such as: Glowing beauty, A touch of Heaven.
Of course some word combinations are ”impossible”, but this is a very funny and creative way to create names.
I think the best are positive, lucky names associating to how we want to look, feel or be by eating raw/living food.
Body and mind. Our goals or dreams in life.
Or just a nice and funny name, nobody will forget.
Group 1
A touch of
Green
Pink
Red
Yellow
Angelic
Angel
Tropical
Polar
Sunny
Celestial
Galactic
Soft
Happy
High
Glowing
Gracile
Lucky
Royal
Golden
Coral
Emerald
Diamond
Group 2

power
cure
dream
sunshine
butterfly

Yes, wonÂ’t be around until after the new year. Let me know when your in the area though and yes, I got the soap.. Its sitting in my kitchen in a bowl. I will bring it into the shower today to try it, promise! It looks like white chocolate on my counter, it plays with my head every time I see it! Ill let you know and thanks for sending that to me! Im so sorry I havenÂ’t even tried it yet. Do you have the ingredients? Maybe theyÂ’re on it? Ill look today.
Thanks forever young!

Oh My God!!!! I canÂ’t tell you how excited I am right now. I only live about an hour from Portsmouth NH.
Ill be there everyday!
And the thought of finally meeting you makes it even more exciting.
This has just made my day Alissa. Im so happy that your doing this. I think it will be a huge success. Congratulations!
A few questions:
Will you be preparing the food there or will you have other people doing that?
Will it be mostly your recipes from your book or new ones that we havenÂ’t seen yet?
Any more information about what youÂ’ll be serving and what will be happening there would be wonderful!
The best to you and I cant wait to meet you and eat at your new place!

I'm excited about this too..I live a little over an hour away from Portsmouth too and can't wait for the resturant to open.
It would be great if you had a "Grand Opening" party or something along those lines so we can congratulate you in person, meet great raw people, and eat great raw food!!

Oh boy, 57 restaurantsÂ…ok, im up for the challenge. Thank god im raw, lol!
Great pansy, thanks!
Of course, a forever young drink is essential!
Worcester, Mass is a hop skip and jump away!
No, I wonÂ’t be in the kitchen after the initial set up. I have too many other businesses running right now that take up a lot of my time, mainly, the alissacohen.com site and store, the teacher trainings, new programs coming up, one of which ill explain more of belowÂ…
I have a feeling ill be there everyday though off and onÂ… eating!!! Its only 8 minutes from my house.
Ill have a full staff. Jhosie, the women from the Tyra show is coming out in January to interview for the head chef position. We have already had numerous discussions about the food and im VERY excited about her being a part of this. She is a trained culinary chef with a background of specialties such as Asian cooking, Thai, Advanced Baking skills, and a lot of ethnic flavors and diverse trainings. She is trained in French cuisine by the San Francisco Culinary Academy which is one of the best in the U.S.
Since she has been raw she has been making some amazing dishes such as Thai papaya salad, a Portabella Mushroom Teraine, Pad Thai, Herbed Asparagus Soup, etcÂ… we talked about the food being really raw, clean without the use of maple syrup, agave, nutritional yeast, etc.. that some restaurants use. Of course there are always some people who cannot eat other items but it will be as clean as possible to keep it truly raw. We talked about making our own flavored oils and using things like that in the plating of dishes instead of any questionable condiments so the presentation is spectacular.
ItÂ’s important to me that we have some traditional comfort food like my eggplant parm and calzone and things like that but to also explore a lot of other options for raw foods. My goal is for anyone, even people who have no clue what raw food is, to walk in, eat the food and fall in love with it. I want people to eat this food, not because itÂ’s raw and good for you, but because it just taste amazing!
SheÂ’s a real foodie and loves comfort food, so the food will also be plentiful and filling while being beautifully presented and prepared.
Well, more info… im thinking of having a tapa bar, not sure I already mentioned that? but from maybe 3p,m on, you can eat little bits of things and test things out that way. Also I love the idea of real sampler plates, made for 2 – 4- 6- people. I love eating that way instead of one big meal so that’s important to me!
Another thing im very excited about is running the 30 day challenge out of there. It’s not all worked out yet, but basically you can sign up for 30 days (and you can continue this as long as you want) you come and pick up your food twice a week and it will be enough food for the week. maybe have a little counseling session once a week if you need it…maybe even some products to keep you raw, like the 30 day challenge bar (haven’t made it yet – actually just thought of it while I was typing this, but that would be cool!)
So stuff like that.
Oh yeah, are you kidding, im big on parties. Any excuse will do!
We may even do a promotion that for 2-3 days you can come and eat and it’s a Tin Roof – meaning everything is on the house – FREE!!!! It’s a great way to get people to come and try the food. Just need to gear up for that and get the staff broken in so it would probably be a few weeks after opening.

Wow Alissa! I am so blown away by your ideas! I can feel the whole manifestation happening as I read your posts. It feels sooooo good! Alissa's Living Food Cuisine sounds like a magical place I'd want to play in everyday!
The Tapas bar sounds awesome! There's nothing like trying a little bit of this and a little bit of that. And the glass fireplace, very nice. I see myself sitting near it with friends, sipping on one of those elixirs, engulfed in deep conversation, feeling sooo GOOD.
Here's an idea for someone. I envision buying the spaces next door and creating a rejuvenation spa where people can receive all kinds of treatments to help them along on their journey: massages, source healing, aloe wraps, infra-red sauna, floatation tank sessions and more. You could sell your herbs and hand-made potions, weekly mind and body programs, gift baskets, etc.
It is so much fun to create the things you want to experience. And you do it so well Alissa! You are always my inspiration!
Enjoy Italy! I'm off to Laguna to celebrate one year LIVING on Live Food with my husband Joel. I am so truly grateful for YOU!
Love and Hugs,
Chrissy

Hey Chris! It was great meeting you guys! Sorry I didnÂ’t have a chance to do an interview with you that night, but we were pressed for time to catch our plane. Love to have you film the opening!
GreenPrince,
I know, I can feel it! Thanks!
Chrissy, we already got that covered, and a few spaces upstairs as well, lol!
Going back to Laguna!? GREAT!!! Have fun! Im so happy you guys are doing so well. You inspire me also, itÂ’s so fun to see what your creating in your life AND health! Wow!
Thanks Star1919!

Alissa I was driving around this morning thinking about your restaurant and wondering if you came up with a name yet.
Out of nowhere this popped into my mind:
"Living On"
Thought it sounded like a cool name, part of your book name and also says it all about the raw diet.
Just thought I'd throw that out there - hope you are keeping up with this thread!

Congrats Alissa! All the best.
Love the ideas on tapas and samplers. This will be especially wonderful for folks visiting from far away who want to try as many of your wonderful dishes as possible in their regrettably limited visits. Might also be a great way for the locals to identify so many things they like to come back for in full quantity.
I'm on the board of a nonprofit in Surry, ME and all of a sudden a long drive from Manchester or Boston is looking much more attractive with a new stop in Portsmouth!
Best,

Congratulations on this new adventure! A raw restaurant is perfect for you 2!
I am visiting the New England area for the first time in Autumn and I am going to zoooom on over as fast as my little feet take me and bring the east coast family. Once they experience your restaurant they'll want to return...
Thrilled for you!

When I first heard about this on Revvell's show I flipped out!
This is so exciting.
It's still three hours away from me but it's so worth it.
I wish I could get a job there. I'm a cake decorator and have been dreaming of creating my own raw cake line. We just had a nightmare of a move back to Albany, NY, so I think my husband would flip if I said I wanted to move to Portsmouth.

I live 4 hours away...but I want to be there when the restaurant opens. In my neighborhood...there are no restaurants:eek:.
I am really excited! We vacation in Maine every summer and do a 2 night lay over in Portsmouth. We live at the Juicery because there really was no place for us to eat! We really love portsmouth and have thought of buying summer home there many times. This summer we only planned to lay over 1 night because eating was so difficult! I just told my husband to call the hotel and book a seconf night in Portsmouth!
What will your hours be? Will you be open for breakfast lunch and dinner? Just planning ahead ;) !

That's a good one, Alissa.
AlissaÂ’s
Real Live Food
But... don't worry to much about the name.
The manager of a famous and outermost prosperous,
top-ranking advertising agency once said to me:
"People worry to much about the name of a new company.
It's not that important, you will work up the name."
The only important is
AlissaÂ’s
The rest is an explanation.
One day nobody needs a clarification... ;)

I need a new job.... but the commute to New Hampshire would be a bit rough, otherwise I sure as heck would at least apply for a position!
