This may be a little controversial, but some of the things I hear or read are so funny, I thought it would be a blast to share them here.

"I ate a bunch of bad cooked food, so I had a banana to clean me out."

Have you ever read something funny like that, or even thought something that you realized made no sense at all later on?

We have something here called "little healthy bread".

I am not even gonna describe it..

Maybe I'm not getting it. But what is the joke with the banana? It might not clean you out like a a colonic or something, but bananas are known to help move waste through the colon. Am I missing something here? Also, I hope the person who said that doesn't feel mocked by reading this thread.

Every now and then someone who is NOT hungry will ask "Should I fast?"

I mean come on........ if you are not hungry, then you are SIMPLY not hungry. No majic involved.

An in-law once told me that she believed that after she eats pancakes she immediately poops them out.

After telling another in-law about how the animals we eat are all vegetarian, (which is how we should be getting our protein, through plant food), he replied "Well, that's why I eat animals, to get my vegetables".

I like the banana to clean me out actually... shows a general conscious that a banana is healthier and better for you than the 'bad' food they ate!

hmph. ive always done the banana thing too. i look at it as just being thankful people are eating bananas! some people go a really long time without fresh fruits and vegetables!

and i've asked the fast question before.

i think this thread is a bit controversial. i try to keep the motto that no question is a stupid question. (i mean come on, i know i ask some 'stupid' ones too!)

Well the particular in-law can act a bit like a hee-haw, but he was jesting with me, as he knows my diet, cause I'm always trying to "share" with him because he also has health issues.

The banana thing just makes me laugh because, yes, bananas are great and healthy and all that, but it's not going to "undo" the abuse of eating bad food. Plus if you just ate a bunch of fat and protein it'll proably give you indigestion. Just made me think they believed that this single "banana" was the cure-all for eating a bad meal.

Maybe some people would get overly sensitive about this, but I can laugh at myself, so didn't think it would really bother people. Sorry if it does.

Laughter IS the best medicine, some say.

I had been chiding my brother for not eating ANY fruits or vegetables when he called me one day and proudly announced that he had, in fact, had lettuce, tomato and onion for lunch. I said, "That's great. Did you make a salad?" He said no, they were on top of his hoagie. I told him it didn't count and he said he couldn't please me for trying.

(I am pleased to say, though, that he now is eating mostly fruits and veggies, although many times they are steamed. It is a giant step in the right direction for someone who used to eat a pound of meat every day, and at least 3 candy bars.)

i am not 100% sure why the banana thing was commented on but it may be because when you eat fruit with anything else, whether it being raw or dried, it ferments in the stomach. This is because of the high sugar content. If one eats a lot of "bad" food, the best thing to eat would be non-sweet fruit or vegetables. These help aid digestion, unlike ferementing bananas. Hope this helps!

Or if one eats a bunch of bad food or cooked food, just have a glass of water and call it a night!

I think it's ok to laugh at yourself, but this thread seems to be laughing at others and their lack of knowledge. And I hope that while people are getting good laugh they are taking the time to help the person understand why what they said is incorrect and enlightening them. I just read a thread about the "roots" or long time raw foodists being intimidating, condescending, and unkind to those who are not as knowledgeable or just starting out. I think with things like this being laughed at, it makes people even more hesitant to come forward with their questions.

You have to remember that a person's knowledge or lack thereof is based on their experience. We have all been fooled nutritionally by something in the media, on a food label or elsewhere. Rather than laughing, I think that we should remember where we came from, and help instead of hinder. And if you want to laugh, we should laugh at our own shortcomings. Why doesn't someone start a thread about the ridiculous things that they did and said when starting raw. I think that people can learn from knowing that even the long time raw foodists did, said and believed crazy things.

Oh yeah, I can definitely contribute to this. The person I'm talking about has absolutely no interest in health (which he's pretty proud of) and wouldn't be the slightest bit insulted if he knew I was posting this here.

I mentioned this before, I think, but my boyfriend's Dad told me over the summer that he doesn't drink water because "water fries your brain" (I hope he was at least half joking, but it's questionable) and that he gets his water from his coffee (that part isn't a joke). He also said he doesn't eat "all those veggies and crap" because "that's rabbit food". I had to fight laughing AND screaming all at once LOL

He's a great guy and I adore him...health is just not really a priority for him for whatever reason.
