Did you weigh yourself when you got the stitches?

I just stick with one scale ... if it shows a loss then the other scale will show a loss too. I wouldn't compare the two.

Last week I was 138. At the doctors.
At home says 134. (I dont think thats right)
and doctors today says 142. *faints*
Why am I going up? I usually stick to the doctor scale. I checked mine to see if it said 142 also. But it didnt.

Next time you go to the doctor's office, physically bring your scale with you. The scale in the doctor's office should be the most accurate. the receptionist must have been joking when she said their scale is 8 pounds off.

I would not worry too much about what the scale sais. Do your clothes fit differently? Also musscles weighs more then fat.

hi,
please don't worry. at home i weigh myself each day, sometimes at night and again in morning after going to the loo (i figure i weigh less then!) sometimes i am 1/2 stone heavier, but next day i am back again to the weight i was. i find my weight fluctuates depending on time of day i weigh myself and also other factors eg period coming on.

i like the idea of taking your scales.
just thought that if you weigh by your scales then go by that, if your scales say you are going down then you are still weighing less regardless of which scale.

don't give up,

best wishes
sal

If I ever see a doctor again, I'm going to bring my blood pressure monitor in, just to see how accurate it is.

I have a cholesterol monitor for my high cholesterol and when I go get my levels lab tested, I take it on my monitor before I leave. Last time I did it we figured my monitor as 10% lower than the lab test.

My docs scale is off also. The nurse said it was supposed to be calibrated every so often and they don't do it. Just one more reason I dislike most physicians.

A Good (pricey) Digital home scales are the pretty accurate or get what the DR Office has. I have one in my basement (they are ugly..) and they are always right on.

I went to the Dr today (I have a basel cell carcenoma to be removed...sundamge from the yester years  ) and she put the weight 135 and it was dead weight..she pushed it to 130 and it was still not in balanced..and then she said ..OK ! huh..she did not even wait to see if it started to come into balance, duh  thats lazy on her part....so I just got off and followed her to the DR room...everytime you weigh in it is different so do not stress. I never weigh in at noon w/ boots, pants..jacket so how can the DR office be accurate !

I wouldn't worry about it. Weight really fluctuates about 5 pounds any way. Besides, they may have changed the scale between your visits. I mean numerous things could have affected your weigh, so please do not get so upset over it. Have you been exercising more lately? You may have gained muscle. I really don't believe in basing our health on scale weights...what is it measuring? fat? muscle? bone? water?
do you see what I mean? I know how it feels to have weight take the primary focus in life as I am forced to worry constantly as to whether or not I have lost weight because I am not allowed to. It's no fun and quite unhealthy in my opinion. Just live, laugh, be good to your body...and have fun! That's the best way to ensure health.

And do you know that you are heavier in the evenings than in the morning, NOT because you have eaten during the day, but because of the moon's gravitational pull? Yup.. it's true.

That statement has been tide in the scales and found wanting!

This morning I peeled some oranges which I'm going to bring to the church event on Saturday, along with the VitaMix, to make fresh whole orange juice. I wanted to estimate how many oranges would fit in the VM as juice. I peeled five and, having a bag rather bigger than my kitchen scale, I went to the bathroom. I put the oranges down, stood on the scale, and read 66.9. I picked up the oranges and stepped on the scale again. It still said 66.9. That cannot be right, I thought. I tried a few more times and still got 66.9. I then picked up my banjo, weighed myself and the banjo, and got a bigger figure. I then weighed myself and the oranges and got 67.2. Apparently it thinks that if you step on the scale within a few minutes and weigh slightly more or less, you're the same person, so it presents the same mass.

I went back to the kitchen and managed to weigh the oranges. They were slightly less than 600 g. Why the bathroom scale said they were only 300 I don't know.

Btw, the doctor's scale, if it has the masses sliding on beams, is measuring your mass, so it's not subject to the moon's gravity or the sun's. The typical bathroom scale measures your weight and divides by 9.8.

::::laughing::: This post made me laugh.
I don't know WHY the moon thing works.. my son just read it to me this week from his Physics book so I passed it along. :p

I guess your oranges were weightless...

LOL.

Thanks for the reassurance. Here's me freaking out about 8 pounds LOL.. well its alot but I never knew doctors scales can be inaccurate. I always thought they had to be dead on for patients with serious health issues. :)
Maybe I should buy a scale. Mine is pretty old. :p

I wouldn't worry about weight. I go by clothes; how my body feels; muscles, etc. I only have a scale, because, well...dang! I don't know why...
<sigh>

How's the finger. Did it hurt getting the stitches out?

Dr. scales are notoriouslly 5 pounds heavier at least because of the type of scale it is.

I wouldn't worry about the scale. I've been to 3 different Drs. 3 days in a row and all will be different than my scale at home. I don't even know why I have a scale at home. I rarely ever use it. I think I got it because of a gift certificate I was given at a store I never shop at. I looked around and found nothing of interest but finally decided to get a scale since I didn't have one. I find measurements are a better way to tell if I've lost or gained.

Most doctors' scales generally add at least 4 pounds (usually 6-7) on. They weight the scales that way because the average american is overweight and they want to encourage weight loss. I've tested this many times and the doctor scale is always about 7 pounds higher. I even had one of the same type of scales (my mother was in the medical industry and had one of those doctor scales) to check it on but it was not weighted and i still came out 7 pounds lighter each time. Get an accurate scale and weigh yourself before you go in so you can truly know.

Yes but I had my 3 year old son there to make me feel better. He rubbed my cheek saying "It's okay momma, It doesnt hurt. Your okay!" It was the cutest thing ever. But it did hurt, mostly because its on my right hand and I use my right hand for everything, so I banged that hand on everything from the steering wheel of the car to my son grabbing it to get my attention. :o

I survived LOL :p

So how can I tell that my scale is accurate? I have a couple of ideas:

Get a large container weighing less than 2 kg (so that I can weigh it with my kitchen scale), fill it with 50 L of water, and weigh it.

Weigh Alice, Bob, and Alice with Bob. It may be difficult for both of them to stand on the scale at once.

Any other ideas?
