Hello,

I think I'm getting a major detox from lots of green juice that I started about 2 weeks ago. I have more than 10 cold sores; it started with the corners of my mouth, and yesterday, I got a patch of 8 new ones on my facial skin, right next to the right corner of my mouth. I'm not sure if this new patch is cold sore, since I thought cold sores are always on mouth. Is this contagious because I think it's spreading or something. What can I do?

Have you had them before? You must have. I think a cold sore is a form of herpies. That is why they flare up often. They do go away eventually but they always come back at some point. Im not sure how to help really. I wouldnt think its the raw diet. Maybe the weather? I've heard of this stuff called Abreeva? its supposed to cut healing time. :o

If you are juicing and eating raw and the cold sores are popping up you can bet that is detox.

A friend was just telling me of an over the counter product, that is amazing in clearing cold sores... it works fast... it comes in a small tube and is called Lysine. Any drugstore would probably have it. Not sure of more natural options.

You can dab a drop of undiluted tea tree oil twice a day on the sores and they'll go away in about 2 days. DO NOT put tea tree oil in your mouth though. It's poisonous to eat when undiluted.

Lysine IS a natural option. Lysine helps to lessen the time of an outbreak and sometimes even inhibits them. Lysine is an amino acid. You can buy this supplement from the healthfood store. Sometimes it comes combined with garlic.

Also try not to stress, as this can also cause outbreaks. If you started stressing over the 1st one, that could very well cause you to have additional outbreaks.

And no, they don't just have to remain on the lips...if it's herpes that is. I have seen pictures of people with an outbreak that covered half of their back.

Keep your hands away from it. If you use a cloth to wash your face, use a fresh one with each face washing.

I hope they leave you soon! Just don't stop with the smoothies. I think you're also having a detox and maybe that's why they came on so strong.

Their right, when you detox all kind of crazy things can pop up. I`ve had that happen to me before. My herbologist (am I spelling this right?) at my local healthfood store recommened A diet high in broccoli for cold sores it`s not a overnight cure but if your suspectible to them over time it will help with flare ups. hope this helps.

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate everyone here's response and advice. I like the idea of tea tree oil externally and broccoli internally since they are both natural. I will try that first. Thanks again. :)

Yowzah.. I've dealt with this since I was very little

and somehow when I went raw, i initially felt like they got WORSE

A few things from my experiences:

-Take L-lysine! a lot of it. Get it pure, without any garlic or vitamin C extracts.. you can get it at most health food stores

-Avoid nuts & cacao- both are EXTREMELY high in arginine, which is the counter amino to llysine... so it'll trigger outbreaks

-Drink water! Keep drinking green juice! I doubt that the juice "caused" an outbreak... in fact the more alkaline substances you bring in the better... however: are you adding lots of carrots & apples to your greens? If so, switch to cucumbers, celery, & lemon. more alkaline

-NCD -- it is a supplement that has improved my cold sores by leaps and bounds... e-mail me if you're interested in more info..

Just some ideas... I know it's hard. I had awful break outs in march, right when I started to date this guy, and it was soo awkward getting a new cold sore every other week it seemed... so I had to cancel or explain why kissing was not possible

feel better :) get some sleep and relaxation

Hi Linda1970.

Detoxing- I agree with others.

A quick relief is often the pure oil of lavender (make sure it's the real thing) directly on the sores. The homeopathic remedy, Borax 3 or 6x, taken 4 times a day will also help. But keep up with the living foods so the underlying cause can be cleansed away. :)

Thanks Sunshine. I will definitely avoid nuts & cacao until this is over.

Earthhealer, thanks for your reply. Lavender oil sounds good since it's natural.

Oh, I feel for you. That must be SO uncomfortable! Forgive me, I can't remember if it's leutein or L-Lysine (though I want to say the latter) that gets rid of and prevents cold sores. If you're not opposed to taking supplements, it would really make a difference. I have an uncle and an aunt who used to get lots of cold sores until they found out about this. Now they take it daily and they don't get them anymore. The leutein, you will get from tomatoes. I'm not sure which foods you can find L-Lysine in, so you could either look into it by doing a search, or just buy the supplement.
Either way, it definitely does work and it wouldn't put a stop to any detox that you've got going on if you can find foods instead of supplements.

I hope you feel better soon!
