View Full Version : where do you buy uncooked beans?

ilive in nyc and i am having a real hard time finding a store that sells uncooked beans. ive tried whole foods, dean & delluca and a million health food shops. all there beans are cooked in cans. any ideas?

Did you try looking in the bulk sections of those stores?

The only uncooked lugumes you should consume are chick peas and mung beans and only after sprouting. I have heard that some do lentils so that might be a possibility.

I'd think you would have no problem find in them in a city of that size. Have you tried a simple health food store? They are usually in the bulk containers and have to bag them yourself.

You can buy dried beans in any old store. I lived in NYC (Staten Island) and some of the little deli type places even had them. However they are not necessarily the type you want for making sprouts. I get mine from Sprout People online. And as another poster said, be careful what you sprout. Just because you can sprout it doesn't mean you should eat it. Some beans need not only to be cooked but boiled to make them safe.
