Hey guys in Hawaii. I'm going there tomorrow to meet my boyfriend's parents. That's where he grew up and they still live. I'm wondering what is in season. Of course here in Portland, almost nothing is in season and I really have no idea what kinds of things would be in season in a place like Hawaii in December.

We'll be in Hilo and I'll have access to their farmer's market on Wednesdays and Saturdays. I went to Thailand a couple of years ago and had so much good fruit and I'm hoping hoping hoping that maybe some of the same fruit will be available in Hawaii.

My favorites were:
MANGOSTEEN
Extra sweet and melt-in-your-mouth pineapple
Young coconuts

Anyway, sorry for the rambling but can anyone tell me what I'll be able to find? Also if you know typical prices at Farmer's Markets, that'd be appreciated too.

Thanks!

I love Mangosteens. Sigh, I love them so much. I wish I knew someone who would ship them to Alaska.

Once in a while you can find them at the Hilo market, also, look for rambutans and lychee nuts. As I recall, someone was at the market site every day when I was there, not just Wed/Sat, but the big market is on Sat, with arts and crafts and such, and across the street is a great little place to find Hawaiian shirts and t-shirts.

I'm jealous, I LOVE Hilo. Have a wonderful time!
