I'm in that stage where I'm gathering the tools needed to start a raw diet. (I've tried a couple of times but I keep falling off...)
The things is, if I used my Juiceman every day to provide the nutrients from raw plants, I don't understand why I couldn't still eat junk food. You know what I mean?
Sorry for my general level of confusion. :o

Hi there,
Welcome and congrats on discovering raw food!! This is a very basic question you've asked and the shortest possible answer is that health is as much (or more) about what we are NOT eating as what we ARE eating. Meaning that it is essential that we not abuse our bodies by putting stuff into them that doesn't belong there. We are physiologicaly designed to eat a diet of raw fruits, tender greens, and to a smaller extent, nuts and seeds. Anything else is toxic to our bodies, in varying degrees. Eating toxic foods day in and day out overwhelms our bodies' natural channels of elimination and creates a toxic condition in the body that will eventually lead to all sorts of chronic disease.
All the best,
Audrey

You are free to eat anything you want yet, you said it in your statement ~ "junk food". The question here is ~ what is your intent? Is it to have as healthy a body as possible or... just get by?
A very famous marathoner Jim Fixx (I believe that is how his name was spelled) thought as long as he ran he could eat anything he wanted. I think a heart attack felled him at about the age of 43 or so.
What we want to be true and what is often tends to be different.
Suggestion ~ start on the raw juices and see how you feel. If you'd like to continue feeling better and better, then, move forward.

HI:
Just a couple thoughts also...when you are juicing and eating high raw your body is cleansing. If you give it junk food it's going to slow or stop that cleansing process. It would be counterproductive. Your cravings will also continue and it will be much more difficult to stay focused on "the good stuff" ie raw.
I say this from experience. Last year I went raw for three months. 95%-100%. I started adding "junk food" once a week. (By junk food I mean, pizza/white flour/meat/soda) it took me three days to let the cravings go again, and I had a day where I was VERY tired and worn out from putting the junk into my body again. I'd start to feel a bit better but "allow" myself some more junk when day seven rolled aruond again. (Food as reward.....another subject:) ) I did okay. I wasn't falling apart by any means, but I slowly began less juice and healthful foods and more harmful foods. And, if you've read my reintroduction on the "Who Are You?" threads you'll know what happened. It hasn't been pretty.
Revvell touched on something important that we all need to ask ourselves and re-evaluate now and then. Why are we doing this? To feel great? To feel just okay? To feel less guilt when we do eat junk food? If you doubt it, give it a try for a week, then for 2 weeks...see what happens...
