Rawsome Ginger

I have been sick and in bed for 3 weeks now! I am eating fruit but that is the only thing raw. I can't even drink plain water, it comes right back up. Anything green or smelly I can't even look at. Alot of bread and crackers Any suggestions? I am soooo miserable right now and constipated.Sleeping around 12-15 hours a day and am not a happy camper. Has anyone been thru this? Thank goodness for my hubby that he is able to work and take care of the house. Prior to pregancy I've been around 85% raw. I was determined to be 100% while pregnant and so far it's not happening. I don't take pre-natal pills either due to everything making me sick. I also tried ginger tea and had no luck with that either. Anything will help...

The sick part I don't know about but slippery elm bark powder made into a tea is the most wonderful gentle laxative I know. I have raved about it all over this board. I have been told it is totally safe. I have bad reactions to other types of laxatives that are supposed to be natural so I like this one. Also, I used to hear women late in their term talk about taking laxatives (X-lax)to get the baby to come out sooner so a gentle one is what you want.

hello, and congratulation on your pregnancy. Is this your first pregnancy? And for how long were you 85% raw before you became pregnant? When I was pregnant with my first(and only one) child I was about 90% raw for over two year. So if you are new to raw foods you probably are still detoxing. If you e-mail me I can give you some helpful tips on how to stay raw during your pregnancy. I think from my own experience raw pregnancy is the best. I never had any morning sickness, no dissiness, headaches or other symptoms. When I found out that I was pregnant I couldn't believe it because there were no evident signs, so for about one month I had to convince myself that I was pregnant, that's how easy my pregnancy was. My delivery was very easy and not a lot of pain. I hope I don't sound like I am bragging, it's I want you to know that it will get better. You just have to figure out what foods work better for you. So please, e-mail me and I will give you more info. Good luck. May God bless you and the baby in your womb.

I'm so sorry, sweetheart, that you are feeling poorly.
Congradulations on your pregancy.
If I were you, I would try a fruit fast.

I'm so sorry you are feeling so terrible :(
As Bittersweet said I would try eating a lot of fruit. Also maybe green smoothies. They are filling, easy, and nutritious. good luck and congrats on your pregnancy. I hope you feel better!

Yes! My third was morning, noon and night sickness with sleeping all day and night for the first 3-4 months. I didn't understand that my body was preparing the way for this little (actually BIG) one and that the nausea and sleeping was part of cleansing and healing.
I practically lived on matzoh and coca-cola at the time, the only thing I could keep down. I wonder if I would have done good on raw, this was way back before I even became a vegetarian.
I'd just suggest, sleep as much as you can, eat juicy fruits or whatever else you like. Matzoh is probably better than bread, all it is, is flour and water, while saltines and crackers have a lot of salt and bad oils in them. You can find matzah in the Jewish food section at the grocery store. That is not to say I'm advocating that you should eat matzoh but it's a better choice than breads and other starches is that's all you can handle.
If you are really nauseas, maybe something fizzy like club soda, you can juice lemons into it. Some women like salty and tangy for their morning sickness, this would be a much better choice than potato chips! Or you could try getting some cold-packed pickles, which are closer to raw. Bubbies is a good brand, found in the refrigerated section.
Also try freezing fruit juice for pops. I remember having to stick my head in the freezer in a grocery store to allieviate the severe nausea. That stopped me from wanting to throw up! Anything cold helps - holding ice in your hands, etc.
Hopefully reading this didn't make you even more nauseated! ;)
Good luck!

Oh my gosh I didn't know you were pregnant!! How special! Wow, you're gonna be a gorgeous raw mama (I've met her in person, people, she's lovely!) I don't have advice for you right now but I just wanted to pop in and say congrats! E-mail me any time!
I do believe that this phase passes soon. I've got another friend who is pregnant right now and she went through the same thing for about 1-2 months and now she feels great.

I'm right there with you, Rawsome Ginger!!! I'm 7 weeks pregnant and I'm struggling tremendously. I haven't gotten to be 100% raw before I got pregnant, I was working my way up there slowly.. but now that I'm pregnant, it's pretty difficult. I'm finding that my nausea is caused by low blood sugar levels.. has anyone else had this problem during pregnancy?? I don't want to drink a soda, but it's the only thing that makes me feel better, so I'm doing whatever it takes to survive :/

I am so sorry to hear about the soon to be mamas that are experiencing nausea. I had it for 12 weeks and it is really awful. I sympathise with you!!
Hang on in there, it will pass eventually and you will feel better than ever. I felt like mine was never going to end, but it did.
Lots of fruit is good to eat, as it has calories, vitamins and water etc.....
Good luck!!

I'm just beginning my raw journey, so I don't have tips for raw pregnancy. However, I have three healthy children, regardless of the fact that for a month during each pregnancy I practically lived on pie. Not that I recommend it .... :p

Am still going thru it. I had to admit it but some does I'm taking med's to get thru the day. I don't even like to take an aspirin, I'm pretty stubborn that way. It's funny, this pregancy thing. I'm craving off the wall stuff, like soda & candy. Which I never even eat normally. So weird. I actually feel like I have a little depression sitting in. Will take a look at that after this trimester. Hoping this all passes soon. I have a few weeks to go, hoping it stops after the first trimester. Am in love with out of the season watermelon though. At $10 a piece, but so worth it!!! At least for now....

Sorry to hear you still have the nausea!!
Have you tried sucking on a cut up lemon or lime - that helped me a bit...
Acupressure/travel sickness bands might help....
Peppermint, Chamomile or ginger herbal tea is good too.
Hope you feel better soon! At least you know your hormones are working and the baby is doing great....

Girlnamedjane--
I actually had an o.k. 3 days, and am sick again this morning. It's funny that you mention soda, because before I was pregnant, I never even liked it. Now, it's been the drink of choice. The last few days I started drinking tea again. Iam starting my journal and logging my food if this helps you. I am waiting for the week to start to feel better! Good luck to you too!!
