View Full Version : New to raw

Hi. I just started eating raw today. My mother has been doing it for awhile. We both have fibromyalgia and it seems to have helped her. I also have GERD, asthma, and period problems. I'm hoping it will help with all of these and I will feel better soon. I am also overweight.
My questions are: could you post a list of raw foods and how do you eat raw legumes and corn? Do you just soak them?
Any help you could give would be appreciated because I am very new at this.

welcome to the boards, I moved your post to the "who are you" forum, so everyone would see it, you'll get some great answers there too.
I don't eat legumes or beans, although you can soake them, when eating raw corn, I just cut it off the cob and eat it, excellent with lemon juice, a bit of salt or some oil on it, like olive oil or avocado.
as far as raw foods, just go to the produce dept of your local store, and it's all there for you, fresh, and raw, pick out the ones you like, take them home and eat, it's that easy, if you want a bunch of great recipes, you can go to our recipe forum, or you can buy Alissa's book and DVD, the dvd shows you how to prepare lots of great stuff.

Hi and welcome to the raw lifestyle! You'll love it!
Some advice about raw beans - some of them are fine, mung and lentils come to mind, but some are poisonous, like kidney beans and black beans.
Do a little homework before ingesting!
I've been eating mostly fruit, I'm not totally raw yet though. I've been cutting out one-two bad foods/habits per month. First went meat, then sugar and smoking, then dairy and eggs. Next is bread/pasta. I can say my cravings for bad food have completely disappeared, my digestion is WAY better, my appetite has dimished, and my weight has started to drop. I can't wait to see what I look like in a few months! :D

Raw will help if not cure (although for many it has) every symptom you listed. When I started I did not want to believe that there are raw foods to avoid (in the sprouted legume category) - I wanted to believe that all was good but I have seen too many warnings about those things so will believe it and stay well. Also some things have a cumulative negative effect apparently . . . as I went to Wikipedia's definition of raw and they specifically mentioned there that sprouted buckwheat can have some adverse effects over time. Personally I have sprouted nothing, dehydrated nothing and only made one raw recipe so far - I know that I will have to learn to do those things if I wish to entice my family to raw.

I eat corn sliced straight off the cob, taste like candy to me.
I've also pureed it before and added seasoning and pureed zuchinni to make a sweet dressing for a spinach greens salad.
Get Alissa Book she has an amazing 4 week plan with a complete list of everything you need to get through a 30day challenge!!! :)
