I went to my local health food store and stocked up on some essentials.
I came across some steel cut oats and rolled oats. The package dont say toasted or anything, does this mean they are raw?

I always wondered that too. I like eating rolled oats, raisins and almond milk for breakfast, and I wanted to know the "rawness" of rolled oats.

Rolled oats and steel cut oats are not raw. The only raw oats you can get in the health food store are oat groats and they are usually in the bulk section. They're like little nuggets.

Also, Alissa sells "really raw" oat flakes. I have not seen these in any store.

Bummer! I will just pretend they are raw, until they are gone! These were in the bulk section...?? Oh well.

I know how you feel. I think most of us have been there. It takes a while to get the hang of what's raw and what's not. But this is how we learn. ;)

There's tons of junk in the bulk section once you really start looking!! :(

The really raw oat groat flakes that Alissa sells are the only raw ones available. They're packaged by The Raw Bakery for her. By the way, they may seem expensive, but you don't eat much of them ... actually only a few tablespoons per serving if you can believe it. 'Course, they're soaked then doctored up with all kinds of goodies like chopped apples, raisins, agave, coconut oil, a bit of sea salt. Rawkie's the expert on this.

However, Rawkinlocs has a spiffy way to make them yourself with a little gadget. There's thread on this from last year (or maybe last winter?) ... or you can ask her yourself and she may resurrect them.

By the way, the not-raw ones are so cheap in bulk, I vote for you throwing them out (!!!) so as to move closer to being all raw. But .... 'course, nobody asked me. ;)
