I recently soacked some cashues and pumpkin seeds and a very strange thing happened:

The cashues turned grey and started to smell within a few hours
(I bought them in bulk, don't think that they are raw)

The pumpkin seeds smelled a little after a few hours and smelled really bad after 24 hours. The package (Sunridge Farm brand) says "raw" and they taste really good unsoaked.

What happened there!

I soaked almond before and did not have any problems.

yeah, most likely neither were raw. ive done that once with cashews that were labelled raw but i found out after that they really weren't. they turned that yucky greyish colour.

I'm no expert on nut soaking but I think cashews need to be soaked only briefly. Like 20 minutes. I also think 24 hours is too long to soak pumpkin seeds for. The sources I've seen do not say to soak cashews and for all other nuts besides almonds they say to soak overnight. They do say 24 hours for almonds.

Really raw cashews soak nicely.... the cooked ones for me tend to go purple or gray if soaked too long. They are just going bad... not growing!
