I tried making a scotch egg the other day. It looked right, but didn't taste anything like one. :(
Actually I was trying to make a savoury egg. Scotch eggs are boiled eggs wrapped in sausage meat, and covered in breadcrumbs. In savoury eggs the egg is chopped up.
So I made the devilled egg spread from the Thanksgiving ebook that was given freely recently. I can't get hold of raw cashews so I used 50% macademia and 50% brazils. It was nice (my dog stole a stick of celery topped with it from a plate and licked it all off! She never likes raw dishes) but didn't taste like egg. It tasted like macademias. Does anyone know what the best substitute for cashews is??
I chopped some white mushrooms and mixed that in. I shaped it into a ball.
I ground brazil nuts parsnip and some onion and wrapped that round the ball.
It looked and tasted nice but was a total failure as a scotch or savoury egg.
Does anyone have any ideas for improvement?
