I tried making a scotch egg the other day. It looked right, but didn't taste anything like one. :(
Actually I was trying to make a savoury egg. Scotch eggs are boiled eggs wrapped in sausage meat, and covered in breadcrumbs. In savoury eggs the egg is chopped up.

So I made the devilled egg spread from the Thanksgiving ebook that was given freely recently. I can't get hold of raw cashews so I used 50% macademia and 50% brazils. It was nice (my dog stole a stick of celery topped with it from a plate and licked it all off! She never likes raw dishes) but didn't taste like egg. It tasted like macademias. Does anyone know what the best substitute for cashews is??
I chopped some white mushrooms and mixed that in. I shaped it into a ball.
I ground brazil nuts parsnip and some onion and wrapped that round the ball.
It looked and tasted nice but was a total failure as a scotch or savoury egg.
Does anyone have any ideas for improvement?

Oh Bobbie Scotch Eggs haven't thought about those in forever I used to make these alllllllll the time loved them. How creative are you to come up with that idea, anyway I thought maybe you could try Pine nuts perhaps, anyway it's just a thought. If you try it let me know how it works out. Good Luck.

Hi Wendi, well a scotch egg is a hard boiled egg which you peel and then you take ground pork sausage meat and encase each hard boiled egg in the meat then dip in a beaten egg and then dip in bread crumbs. After this process you deep fry it until cooked and golden brown. They are so yummy, but that was then and this is now. Anyway it's a food that we eat in the UK although I have found them here at Brits pub and also now at our State Fair here in MN. I have never tried one here in the states so have no idea what they are like. Anyway I hope this answers your question Wendi.
Take Care

This is awesome...I was totally day-dreaming about scotch eggs last week!

The ones we had were made as above only baked (rather than deep fried) and served with tomato sauce. I so do not want the real thing, can imagine being extremely sick for 2 or 3 days after having one. A raw vegan version would be very nice.

I bet if you mimic the spices in the breakfast sausage I bet you will have more of a familiar experiance. I think those have sage and fenel?
