Last Christmas I made Alissa's turkey loaf and noasted turkey for Christmas. Both were nice but neither tasted like turkey. The second one was exactly like stuffing, so I shall be making that this year as stuffing. But I'm not sure what to make instead of turkey. Do people who have tried Alissa's BBQ chicken think it would be appropriate? (It looks very appropriate visually, you see)
Has anyone made the Boutenko's turkey from Eating without Heating? It requires caraway seeds and I can't buy them where I am. I finally got hold of a packet, but I only have enough for one batch so I can't experiment before Christmas.
I was wondering if anyone has eaten either of these could tell me which would be best for Christmas dinner?

Hi Bobbie,
Hum... Don't know about making BBQ chicken for Xmas. We made them once and found them REALLY intense! I suspect the lentils are the culprit. In the end, we ended up freezing most of them and I'm planning on using them as a base for other stuff. See if that helps... Having said all this, you might enjoy them as we all have different tastes. I'd definately recommend trying them before hand though, perhaps a smaller batch...
Did you get Heidi and Justin's free Thanksgiving ebook last week? They had a bunch of holiday recipes. We found their mashed potatoes really yummy and the gravy was the best we've had so far. Let me know if you didn't, I'd be happy to forward it to you.

It sounds like it would be great for Christmas recipes also.
Was it posted here on this forum, if so is there a link to it.
Thanks for the information.

Thanks for the advice.
Yes I did get the ebook, it was wonderful. The only thing missing was a turkey substitute.
I can't really experiment before hand as we're doing a green smoothie fast (just fruit and green smoothies) to recover from my last dehydrating session (I don't use the dehydrator very often and it made us feel ill).
If anyone else wants to experiment, this is the Boutenkos recipe:
Turkeyless Turkey
by Valya and Sergie Boutenko
Page 81 of Eating without Heating

We have fun with this dish on Thanksgiving day.
1/2 pound almonds, soaked overnight if possible
1/2 pound walnuts, soaked overnight if possible
1 pound carrots, finely grated
1 medium onion
1 Tablespoon raisins
1 Tablespoon oil
1 Tablespoon caraway seeds, ground
1 Tablespoon Italian Seasoning
Sea salt to taste
Combine all ingredients and put through a champion juicer with the blank
plate in or mix in a food processor. If the mixture is not firm enough, add
one or a couple of the following thickeners: dill weed, dried garlic, dried
onion, dried parsley flakes, nutritional yeast, psyllium husk powder, ground
flaxseeds.
Form into drumsticks, sprinkle with paprike or ground black pepper before
serving.
Does anyone whose tried Alissa's un-chicken patties, think they would be a better turkey substitute for Christmas? Which is most realistic?
Thanks x
Bobbie

Btw could someone please tell me what Italian seasoning and poultry seasoning are, because I can't find them in my shops. Thanks!
