Is ginger and ginger root the same thing? :confused: When recipes call for ginger should i just assume that it is the root? Thanks!

Yes, you should because they are the same - ginger is a root, and you will need to grind it or chop it very small and then smash it with you nice to use in your recipe. You can also dehydrate it and then ground it up as in ground ginger from the grocery store.

yes, assume that it is the root, but don't assume that it is fresh. it could be ginger powder. the two will make a difference. the powder is a different flavor, and more concentrated! so, if it calls for shredded, or chopped that will obviously tell you that it is fresh...but, otherwise, look for clues as to whether fresh or dried.
