I drink carrot juice quite often and I always use organic carrots.

I'm wondering, if I wash the carrots well in fresh water, is there a need to peel them? It would sure save time if I didn't have to.

Anybody know?

I do, just because. The best peeler I have ever used is this one:

You can use it both ways (toward you or away from you). It is THE BEST I have ever used.

I've never peeled an oranic carrot when making juice or shredding it in the FP. I just wash it real good ... sometimes, when I scrub it hard enough some of the peel comes off ... :)

Today I even ate 2 of them without peeling them ... :p

I don't. Lucky I even wash them.

I don't, I just give them a rinse and a light brushing. Don't want to get rid of too much of the good stuff ;) I have a friend who believes the stuff on the outside of fruit and veggies is as important as what's on the inside. He thinks of it all as a symbiotic relationship, and all necessary to our health. Although he goes as far as not washing his lettuce, and still calls himself a raw vegan :p I don't mind dirt, and organisms I can't see, but spare the bugs, please!

Interesting. I'll just rinse my organic carrots from now on - cool beans, er, ah, carrots!!! YAY!!!!!!!!! One less step!
I still like my peeler though - it is THE best!

I don't believe you HAVE to. You don't have to worry about all the icky stuff from non organic produce.. But it would be wise to wash it:)

My husband scrubs them and trims them then puts them through the juicer, no peeling.

When I'm doing it, I briefly run them under the faucet and then put them through the juicer without trimming OR peeling.

The carrots we use are also organic.

I tend to peel carrots because they can be bitter, but I don't think you NEED to.

The skin contains more nutrients. I never peel veg even when not organic - supposedly when you juice non organic veg the pesticides stay in the pulp. So I don't use the pulp unless its organic.

I generally peel them because I have at the back of my mind the fear that it might be possible to get parasites from the soil on them -- can someone please tell me that I'm wrong?! -- I'd love just to wash them --

I'm with the camp that says the carrots are lucky if they even get washed. ;)

I usually don't peel them. However, I sometimes get some that have little hairy-rooty things on them that are unpleasant to eat. If they have these or are overly dirty, then I might peel them. Otherwise I just scrub them.
