Is anyone here having a problem to curtail late night food binges? My husband constantly remarks on those and how bad they are for me, but my taste buds seem to wake up around 9 pm. It is 9 pm now and I'm munching on a persimmon. Seems like eating raw is a much smaller challenge then not eating late at night. I can go all day without much to eat at all but I definitely am hungry at night. It may be a matter of a well established bad habit now, but I wanted to know if anyone has used any kind of successful technique to overcome this. I go to bed around 12 pm, so heh.. this may be part of the problem. But this part I certainly can't control as I like to have some "living" time after coming back from work:)

Hmm...are you active in the evening? For example, if you exercise after work, it is quite possible that you would be hungry afterwards.

Hi Irisha,
Strangely, I've been having this problem in the last few weeks. Prior to raw, I seldom eat after 7pm. However, in the last couple of weeks, I always want to eat some fruits before I prepare for bed, which is around 9pm. I don't like it because it's only 1 hour before my sleep time. For me, it's definitely an emotion thing, and I must stop it before it becomes a habit for me. I think it's at this time that I'm completely relaxed and have lots of time to enjoy the food. I'm not in a rush to finish the food as I'm during the day. I thought about this very hard yesterday after reading your post and thought of a solution; I must take time to really enjoy the food during the day.
Thanks for starting this thread. :)

Hi Irisha...I've eaten at night my whole life...and now eating raw...nothing's changed...I can have a perfect day and bingo!!! after 9 I want a snack and it's usually nuts and dates...my favorite...I do get home after 9PM...and know it's a habit I need to break but I looooooooooove those nuts in the evening...
I've tried having celery sticks with almond butter to satisfy the crunchy thing...yet for some reason those high calorie/fat foods are what I crave...oh, if it was a small handful but noooooooooooooo, I want a HUGE handfull(s), ha! ha!...
So any suggestions will help...I do wanna lose some pounds so that's why it's an issue for me.
Elaine
I'll be looking for any help, too!!!!

Irisha,
you said that u dont eat much during the day, so maybe thats just it. ure not eating enuf so you are still hungry at nite. i know thats been the case for me a lot... and there are times when ive eaten almost eveyrthing but the kitchen sink because of it.
but like one of the other posters said, its an emotional thing too. a comfort at the end of a long day. i know i need to work on that part more.

No! At night I am snoozing away! But there is some good advice here to pay heed to.

I remember reading somewhere that we will always be hungry the same time of day as we ate the day before.. if that makes sense.. so if you ate at 9 PM last night.. you will want to eat at 9 PM tonight. I remember it had to do with insulin. Sorry I can't give you the exact detail of it. But I use to suffer with that problem and I had to just stop myself. What worked best for me was when I got hungry I would excercise, which in turn, would make me ready for bed when I was done, and killed the desire I had to eat! However, if you stay up really late all the time, it's probably just your body telling you its needing more energy to function itno the wee hours:p

I discovered that if I don't have enough sweet fruit during day, then I get hungry in the evening or even have problems falling asleep until I get a good does of fruit.

Often eating a heavier meal can help combat cravings. When I eat a light meal for dinner, I almost always will keep eating things throughout the night.

I have been eating at night for quite some time. I actually plan a snack for myself before bed. I feel no guilt or issues. It's planned, healthy and I enjoy it for what it is.
Also, I find I need the snack more when I've been active. When I run a longer distance or faster than usual I find I look for that snack.
Hope this was helpful.

Insulin thing sure makes sense to me, I can't attribute it to exercise as I haven't been exercising much lately  But I do get hungry at 9 pm on time every night big meal or small meal during the day. I like the idea of having a nice relaxed time during the midday meal though so I'll start planning my lunches better and having tea for comfort at night. Much healthier! Thank you all for contributing..Let's hope today was the last time.

I think you need to eat more during the day. Make lunch your main meal and you will be less hungry in the evening. I usually do that, but there were a few days I ate a really light lunch, was eating way too much at night as a result. Eating a heavy dinner and snacking at night also interfears with your sleep and makes you less energetic the next day. Just change you routine and the late night cravings will go away.

I get snack happy before bed too. I chew on sun dried figs cause they take forever to chew and they are yummy! :D

I've done this for years and years yet I have not eaten late at night for a long time BUT ironically enough last night i woke up late and ate. Eating food in the late hours is all emotional for me. I have been feeling very alone and then had some bad news the past few weeks and last night it all caught up to me and i needed a friend... so i turned to food, an old friend.
I am not saying everyone turns to food b/c of the built up emotion but I am just sharing my experience.
Feel well

I do tend to pick at night. I think it is just habbit. I would always have a snack at night to watch TV, read or play a game with the family. I don't worry about it too much, it's just a pear or a few dates, no harm in that.
