I am planning a trip to New York. I for sure want to check out pure food and wine. Has anyone been there? How is the food? Any other raw places I should hit?

Thanks for any comments.

The food at Pure Food and Wine is unbelievably delicious. They have the only raw pasta I've ever tried that if you didn't know any better you'd think it was real pasta. Their ice cream, unbelievable, just everything is soooooo good.

Hands down the best raw food restaurant in NYC, IMO.

A bit out of my league wallet-wise though so it's only a once or twice a year treat for me.

I must agree. It was the second raw restaurant I went to during my summer in NYC and it was my favorite! I brought my boyfriend there twice and he's a big meat eater and he loved it! I adore their lasagna, their ice creams and all their deserts. Also if you're into the raw snacks thing, they have "pure juice and take away" which is a little store around the corner. There you can get their macaroons, a quick plate of their apetizers, fresh juices and smoothies.

Gosh, I must sound like a commercial for pure food & wine! I also bought the book "Raw food, real world" and met Sarma a few times. Very exciting stuff. :)

As for other raw restaurants in NYC I really liked the following (which were a lot less heavy on the wallet, thanks): Caravan of Dreams, Quintessence. Also Bonobo's is a good place for fresh raw salads and nut pates.

Enjoy your trip, it's such a nice experience to visit NYC! :)

Personally love the carry out around the corner from Pure Food and Wine (convenient, open for lunch and their dreamy lasagna is $16 at this place) - plus there are a couple of tables.

Bonobos is my other choice. Love their green juices and variety of coconut smoothies. Bonobos salads are yummm. They also have more SAD-like items like sushi and cabbage wraps with dehydrated burgers (these items are also available for carry out). Lastly, if you need extra energy in the city try their coconut water that is in bottles to go. Yummm.

David Jubb's place is also fabulous food. It is not about the decor but their smoothies, mains and desserts are divine. The prices are similar to Pure's carry out. Another thing is that this is close to that great raw store Live Live and Quintessence.

All the other places mentioned are good too -- though my current favourites are Bonobos and Pure's carry out. If you are interested in trying some different sort of things go to Jubb's (note, their desserts were incredible even though they do not use dates...).

Enjoy NYC!

Love PF&W! We eat there every couple of months. Do check the archives for lots of great posts and info on it.
