I am making Alissa's spanish rice. I've sprouted the barley, and tasted it. It's chewy, with a perculiar taste. I am also thinking sprouted grains LOOK hard to digest???? What's your opinion??

I've never tried the Spanish rice, but I've had her chili which also has sprouted barley in it and it didn't bother me and was very good.

Should the barley actually have sprouts growing from it? I tried a few little bites of just the barley, and it seems an hour later I've got indigestion. Wondering if I sprouted too long? OR maybe it's just that I really haven't eaten alot (barely anything) today?? Thanks.

OH yeah...hours later, major indigestion, I can't get rid of it. I'm thinking it's from something else, not just a couple bites (maybe 15 whole sprouted grains of barley :( ) I don't think it's possible to get this much indigestion from that?? Anyway, I'll be back to check for more opinions. Thanks for all your help!!!

My whole bowl of Spanish rice is in the refrigerator....and I'm afraid to eat it. Hoping someone will come along and tell me if I sprouted it too long. I think I sprouted it for about 2 days......I surely don't want a repeat of what happened last night.

I eat sprouted barley often and I don't have any problems. I love both the spanish rice and the chili from Alissa's book. I sprout my barley for 1 1/2 day, about 36 hours.

The barley should have sprouted tails on it ... I've used it with a "tiny" sprouted tail to a tail that is a long as the barley grain itself. Didn't have any bad effects from either one. I tried using 'pearl' barley once, it got somewhat soft, but didn't sprout, and I didn't have any luck with that -- was too chewy, didn't taste that great, but I didn't have any bad effects from it.
Some folks have reactions to certain things -- so perhaps you need to try another "nibble" and don't eat anything else for a time and see what happens?
