My dear friend is quite ill and wanting to make changes. I want to buy a blender for him to do green smoothies with. I can't afford a Vitamix for him. Any recommendations on what you think is a powerful, affordable blender would be so appreciated. Thank you raw angels!

Check the Magic Bullet. It is usually seen as a more affordable version of the Vitamix.

Hi Biscuit Grinch...

How good of you to do that! I do use a Vitamix... and can't recommend another blender from experience. Here are a couple of high performance blenders, you might check out, at Overstock.com (only $1 shipping this weekend too) Just click on links...

you're an angel. I'd never heard of overstock.com. What a find. I guess I'm a bit digitally impaired!

Warm blessings,

I have to say I've been very happy with my osterizer that cost about $20 at Target 4 years ago. It doesn't get nuts smooth the way my Vitamix does, and it doesn't grind flax seeds, but I actually prefer it to the Vitamix for smoothies with frozen fruit. It seems to do a better job with frozen bananas, especially. I can also take the blade off and screw it onto a 8oz mason jar and make salad dressing that way.

I suggest you go to Goodwill and buy a used blender.

In my opinion, the older blenders with glass containers are much more powerful than the new ones. I wish I hadn't replaced mine!

YOu can find older ones that look new, plus, you save another machine from the landfill.
