My 8 year old son is not raw at all. He does get excited when I mention we are going raw. For him it has not happen yet.
Steven has a science project do around the middle of January. I was thinking of instead of the usual volcanoes, solar systems or even (which I saw as a title) why our veins are blue but bleeds red or do children of smokers have more illness, etc.
I was thinking of having him go raw vegan for 30 days. My son Steven is very hyper and is very over active in school. He is also not doing well in his school work....yes I know it is his diet. I think this project will be a blessing in disguise. I can ask his teachers how is he doing in school, is he more focus? More quite in class, etc.
I want your honest opinions on this. His title will be something likeÂ…. will going raw vegan (no sugar or diary) for 30 days improve my school work and make me a calmer child. I am still working on the topic.
I have another question. Raw Vegan is that mostly raw with a little bit of cooked veggies?
I thank you in advance for your response. I donÂ’t think anyone in this area has done a project like this. I want to give you of some of the topics they have given the kids.
*Why do oranges have seeds?
* Why do we need thumbs?
* Which gum forms larger bubbles- gum with sugar or sugar free gum
* Which type of breath mint leaves your mouth feeling cooler?
* Since sugarless gum is sold in smaller packages, do you get less gum?
The list goes on and on.

I look forward to your responses.

Yours in health,
Michele

Effect of diet on behavior. :D

Raw vegan is a loose term meaning a majority of your foods are raw. 100% raw vegan means all the way.

I think you should definitely keep a diary - just don't spill any milk on it. ;)
Raw vegan food is food not of animal origin that has not been heated above a certain temperature (I use the figure 47 °C; there's a bit of variation). Mostly raw with a little bit of cooked is called high raw.

"Il n'y a de science que du mesurable" - you can weigh raw food with your kitchen scale, but how do you measure hyperactivity?

I think that it is a wonderfull idea.
If one kid in every school could do this the idea may spread.

Hyperactive kids are usually brilliant but I think suggestions on how to keep this under control for an 8 year old are in order. Personally I don't have any but I am hoping that you get some more ideas from people here because it sounds like a very big project for a little guy. Pierre is right. How can you measure the hyperactivity is a good question.

You will have to keep a journal of what kinds of foods make him act hyper and his behavior for that day.

then you will need to do the comparison of days that he is high raw and record his behavior then.

You will have to do a side by side behavior journal and food journal.

Unfortunately you will have to deal with him after he has had the foods that make him uncontrollable.

I dont know if this experiement will be a perfect science experiment, but I am sure your son and everyone else will learn something. That food really does have an affect on our bodies.

This would be his science project not yours. He should be keeping the diary of how he feels. You could also keep one that shows what you observe, but the majority should be from him.

Hope that doesn't sound nasty, it is not meant to be. Parent homework is one of the many reasons I withdrew my children from school.
