This sounds great! It would make a great holiday dessert too I'd bet.

What does Halvah taste like? What's the consistancy of it in your mouth?
I've been wanting to make it for an upcoming birthday party but I was worried no one would like it that it would be too exotic for my family members.
Some of my step family is pilipino and I thought this would be nice for them to try.

The recipe I found was:

Ingredients for Chocolate Halvah

* sesame seeds - one cup hulled or black
* cocoa beans - one cup dry peeled
* honey - 4oz or 3 or more tablespoons (variable- enough to ball)
* agave nectar - 4 oz

Directions for Chocolate Halvah

* add black sesame seeds to vitamix with dry blade cannister, and pulverize into flour by starting on low and increasing the speed
o drizzle honey in the middle under low speed until it balls up
* remove and replace with cocoa beans and pulverize into flour
o drizzle agave nectar in the middle until it balls up
* combine the layers - I do this in two stages because my vitamix only works well with 1 cup at a time
* put walnuts on bottom of mold, press in the halvah on top and cool.

I just love halvah. I made some a month or so ago, I didn't use enough honey so it didn't turn out great but I'm going to try again. I LOVE halvah. I used to buy it from a mid eastern store. It is so great with pistachio's... I think I'm going to try that!

For some reason tahini and carob make great partners, whereas I'm not such a carob fan otherwise.

I make some tahini truffles with carob and honey. Once you chill them they firm up and they are wonderful.

I use:

1 cup tahini
1/2 cup carob
1/2 cup honey or to taste

That is it - just combine in the food processor until it forms a dough then roll into balls and chill.

I just made this - followed it to the letter and it's incredible!!!! Tastes exactly like the halvah I remember. I also rolled a few of the truffles in coconut before sticking in the freezer. This stuff rawks, thanks Sharon!

I just made this and added some soaked, dried buckwheat and they are fantastic! they now have more of a crunch to them. I am wondering: Do you think adding sesame seeds instead of almonds would work?
