View Full Version : A Hypothetical Situation for Order of Eating Meals...

Kind of a convoluted topic, but it's real simple. Suppose you pretty much eat the same 3 things everyday for your 3 meals (assuming you eat 3 meals). What I want to know from the more experienced or knowledgable people is what order you would eat these meals. This is being incorporated with an 8 hour work day and a 2-4 mile run in the evening.

In no particular order, here are the meals:

Meal #1 - Bowl of whole fruit (bananas, oranges, grapes, berries, pears, pineapple, etc). A mixture of any or all of those.

Meal #2 - Blended salad (1 avocado, 1/2 cucumber, 1 tomato, 2 jalapenos, handful of radishes, 2 big handfuls of spinach, 1/2 red pepper, and cayenne pepper). Makes a little under 4 cups.

Meal #3 - Dates w/ almond butter and/or raw nuts.

I think it depends on which raw guru you believe the most in terms of what works for your body. For me - I am learning that food really is a stimulant and although I really like the comfort of filling up at night - it keeps me awake. So with your menu I would do the fruit in the a.m.; nuts for lunch and to get that afternoon energy going and salad for dinner.

For me, I would have the fruits for breakfast; the nuts mid day because they would be very easy to transport for lunch; and the salad for the last meal -- alternating between blended and regular salad. (just for variety).

I agree with the above

breakfast of fruits

lunch of nuts

dinner of salad

I would do fruits for breakfast, salad for lunch, nuts for dinner. That is very similar to what I do, with added salad at dinner.

I always like to eat my heaviest meal last, since it will be some 12-14 hours before I eat again, giving it plenty of time to digest. I'd say your second and third option are a toss-up, but in general I think avos are easier (and faster) to digest than nuts, especially if blended.

Definitely keep your fruit first!

I usually follow food combining rules, which would be:

Fruit
Salad
Nuts

But I would NOT eat dates and nuts together as they digest at different rates and make for less than optimal absorption. I would eat the date first, then wait an hour or so and then eat the nuts. Nuts can be combined with veggies, though.

Also, I would not eat only 3 meals; I eat approx. every two hours.

And ... I'd eat the nuts after the run.

While I'm at it ... I'd eat the fruits separately, not mixed together.

Have I deviated enough from your (quite simple) question? ;)

I would eat whatever I was hungry for at any given time.

I hear you. If you are going to eat a meal on non-fresh, fat...sugar & protein (meal #3) then I would eat it when I was most active (perhaps 12:00 noon). I would eat a simple fresh fruit meal in the morning...fruit snacks.....and a larger veggie whatever at night. Just my opinions.

Thanks for the input all. I usually eat the salad for lunch and the nuts for dinner because after the run, my body feels like it needs something heavy. :) Also, after my run, I really don't feel like making a blended salad especially when I can just grab some nuts. But what a lot of you suggested is what I thought would be the answer. Now I just need to work on doing what I thought anyway.

Thanks!
