Hi, everybody!

I'm Janeen. I'm very new to the concept of eating raw, but I've been learning so much through these forums. Thanks all for so much wonderful information!

My health had been declining for previously unknown reasons for the past 5.5 years or so....for reasons I couldn't figure out until I learned about toxicity and everything started making sense. I had rashes, really poor facial skin, various infections, digestive problems, and was always tired. I started doing a lot of research on health & diets, because I figured out quickly that most doctors were very ignorant about nutrition and they would only supply me with drugs.

So....in October I made a serious commitment to change all my bad health habits, and started cutting out things as I felt comfortable doing so. I have been an intermittent smoker for 8 years or so (psychological thing, not a physical craving), addicted to Mountain Dew (often a liter or more per day), and gave myself no limit on desserts. Basically, what I wanted, I consumed. Typical SAD diet. And I kept on feeling sicker and sicker, and had no control over my weight gain, even though my transportation consists of a bicycle and my legs.

But in less than two months, I've quit smoking, cut out all sugar except Agave nectar and all animal products. I've always loved fruit and never craved meat (except for sushi), so I'm feeling quite comfortable declaring myself vegan.

I bought a Vitamix on Ebay a while back and having been *loving* the daily smoothie. I'm really lucky in that I live within a mile of a huge Asian market, with a fantastic produce selection. I made durian custard the other day. :D
What also helps greatly with the transition is the acquisition of Christian vegetarian boyfriend Gregg. :D He's a type 1 diabetic, unfortunately, but with the upside that he has to pay a lot of attention to his diet and therefore we are on the same page in our interest in health.

I just ordered Alissa's book, along with raw cacao beans, celtic sea salt, a nut milk bag, and the spiral slicer. I'm really adventurous food-wise naturally, so I'm really looking forward to trying out the recipes....eventually I will get a dehydrator and be 100% raw!

WoW this has been my night for talking to new members who are doing so great, and are doing whatever it takes to stay RAW. It's just AWSOME....

Lets see, you already ordered Alissa's book, you have a Vita-mix, you made a Duran pudding, you live near an Asian Market, oh your only transpotation is a Bicycle and Walking. You cut out that caffine laden Mountain Dew, full of sugar, lets not forget those cigarettes you gave up, must I go on.

I must tell you that you are doing everything just RIGHT. You are such and inspiration and I am SOOOO PROUD of you. I know you will keep it up and post your Journey here to inspire all the newcomers here.

I forgot one, you got a Health Person for a BoyFriend......You RAWK.........

I wish you everything you need to Stay RAW........Welcome to MY World.....

Welcome to raw! I live 3 km from two full-size Asian groceries and I'd like to know what some of the mysteriously named or unlabeled vegetables are. So far I've figured out:
Gai lan - Chinese broccoli, actually a variety of kale, one of my favorites
Yu choy - also in the cabbage family; canola is a mutant of this
Sherlihon, also spelled xue li hong - Chinese mustard greens
Bok choy - also in the cabbage family
Garlic (?) buds - I'm pretty sure they're Allium spp, but I haven't tried them
But there's something labeled "potato leaves" - potatoes are nightshades, so aren't the leaves toxic?
Can you get raw water chestnuts? I like the crunch, but canned ones just aren't as sipid as raw veggies.

Hey Neighbor - I'm about an hour away from you. I hope you can hook up with a group in Denver, surely there's one that gets together. I hear Boulder is very raw friendly as well.

Welcome. I lead the Boulder raw group for years. Email me if you desire information. We meet 2x month. Never know who will show, but it's not about numbers. The food is always great. People fabulous. Everyone's on their own journey and respected where they are at even those who haven't given up animal products. However, our gatherings are raw, plant based only. We have been meeting for serveral years.

Wow, Littleton. Surely worth the ride to us, but allow time for the drive time.
Email me and I will send more details. Dates conflicting with work for me this month. I'm in Westminster area and near Butterfly Pavilion (15 minutes from downtown). All highway drive. Email for further talk. Hope we can meet soon! Maybe we can have a 3-some here. My house works and others welcome.
