Gee really?

Yeah, whip out your 'galloping raw gourmet culinary skills' and tell us what is new! did you ever make the pizza? what about the calzone?

My goal is to work back into my favorite past time, running. Feels like a long road to my 15 miles a day but a figure a few months will bring me back. It will take me another three months therafter to get back to my 5.5-6 minute miles.

I say this as I knock on wood. Pleaaaaaaaaaaaaase no more neck and back injuries. I still have the left side neck and should/back issue but more likely attributed by the auto=immune. It's been healing but feelin anxious.

Yummy I like a pizza - just so long as it's easy to make, with out a lot of fancy figuring stuff out, I'm down for it :D

I was doing great till this November thanksgiving holiday, It's been like 4 days since I've been to the gym. The last thin I did was a leg work out. I'm growing quicker it seems on raw than before. I went from 215 lbs squats to 275 lbs in one week. But its been going on 5 days now so we'll see. Plus I'mm still looking for a good raw body booster for my muscles when I get done working out to help re - engage my muscles and body after a hard work out, other that just banana's and spring water.

It's 02:17 am here misslinda and I have to go to sleep, see you soon :D

ps. have you recieved any V.M. or emails? - misslinda?

I wanna do Tae Kwon Do, or something like that....let me see, DH used to do Ju Jitsu (NOT sure how to spell that) when he was in the Navy in 1988-1991. I always thought I would love that kind of physical "push" and discipline. Not sure though if 35 is the right age to START such a thing....and financially, these classes always are very expensive. oh well.....yes, I too would love to see pics Sharon.....I'll live vicariously through you!

Hey Wendi - I started at 38 (hubby at 41) and there are some other old foggies around - we do the family class.

It is well worth the investment. You get your activity, you focus on balance, kicking, breaking boards, sparring...there's a lot of skill involved, it's work, but it is fun. I figured this is in lieu of paying for a gym.

You won't know until you check it out. Find an academy near you, watch the class and talk to the instructor about rates. You may get a gonga deal.

tvillemom
11-28-2006, 06:16 PM
Thanks Sharon...maybe I'll do some checking around and see if we could get a family rate, might me fun to learn this all together! Thanks so much for the incouragement!!!

Just wondering....where everyone stands RIGHT NOW as far as % raw, and what your planning for day 1. Like RIGHT NOW, I am trying to be 100%, but daily that would realistically be 50-80% raw. :( ...so I need the COMMITMENT of being 100% with this group. I have put on mega weight in the last 2 months,(about 10 lbs. no joke, I gain easily and it's a struggle to get it off!!) and I know my health is suffering, mostly my mental health...I get depressed when my weight goes up. I feel crummy!! I also have SEVERE pms when that time rolls around (sorry for the males reading this, but this is life). I was just wondering if others in the group want to share "where they are" on their journey, and maybe where they WANT to be. I truly want RAW to be my permanent lifestyle choice...I know when I eat right, life is good!! :D
Plans for day 1: exercise (yoga in the am)
juice for breakfast, fruit later, and a nice big salad for dinner
:D :D :D

Take care.

tvillemom,
I am currently transitioning again but I love the challenges because I get all the inspiration I need to start and finish 100%... RAW.
The first day for me will probalby be several bananas and apples...RAW BAR from health store. I'll probably make a green smoothie and whatever else my heart desires raw. I have not dehydrated anything in long time so I might go to my aunt's garage and pull out the old dehydrator to make up some of Alissa's Raw pecan burgers(mmmh!) I also love her raw spanish rice... very easy only 1 day of sprouting required.

Hope this helps give you some fresh ideas...I too want to be Raw without any hesitations.

tvillemom
11-29-2006, 04:46 PM
RAW spanish rice??? I gotta check that out! Why haven't I tried it before. Maybe I was afraid that I would not buy the right rice. Am I correct in thinking that RAW rice is only the black wild rice?? Please help me, I would love to have raw rice, cooked rice is a favorite of mine....and I miss it when I'm raw.
Wendi

brwnrawgirl
11-29-2006, 05:34 PM
Wendi,

Raw spanish rice is actually made with Barley and soaked for a day, then blend with tomatoes, oninons, garlic , some spices... it is very similar to real thing. The texture is what wins me over every time. An after it sits a day, it taste even better. I'll need to pull out Alissa's book to give you the whole recipe... Uh Oh ...I do not know what I did with the book???? gotta find it by Friday :)

Good morning all! I'm off to the store to get fresh groceries. I have a question about the rice. Last time I bought barley it was pearled barley, which wouldn't sprout. What should I look for? I have all the ingredients for this usually on hand....and I'm off to the HFS this afternoon to buy all my bulk items. I would love to try some new stuff....trying to keep to simplicity, and maybe some grains that I can buy CHEAP, and keep on hand. Nuts are expensive, and though I buy some....I hate to buy tons of nuts to make heavy dishes....I like the light grains, if I can just figure out which ones to buy
Looking forward to tomorrow! Misslinda, you really chear us on!! :D

Good Morning tvillemom,
I'm not sure of the type of Barley but it won't sprout like other grains regardless. You just need to soak for a day(24hrs) Next time I go to the store I'll pay attention.

Since July I have found myself eating less and less healthy foods. When I began in April I told myself that by the end of 2006 I wished to be completely raw in my eating habits. It is not too late :) and it will be a Christmas present to my body.

Tomorrow I will begin with a smoothie of stawberries, bananas, orangejuice and greens, lunch and supper will be a salad of greens and snacks will be almonds, raisins and apples. I think to eat this menu for the first week.

EVERYONE: So yeah, tomorrow is hours away and what FUN this will be. Please do share your latest and greates ideas with everyone! We are here for support so ventilate, express and ask if you need help. Let's FOCUS on our strengths and work towards our own GREATNESS!

I'm still sensitive to the wind and cold b/c of the "symptoms" I have so I will be eating more citrus fruits and certain types of greens.

My course of action~~

Fruits:

Tangerines not oranges
Pears okay
Apricots
Fuji apples
lemons/kimes

Greens will include:

cabbabe
spinach
herbal greens
green leaf

no nuts for me ( i'm too lazy to soak them)
avacado is fine

if any craving, I will drink water and exercise in some way shape or form......no matter where I'm at ;)

Misslinda she passed away in August of this year. It was very difficult for me. While we were in middle of remodeling her entire house she had 3 major strokes and ended up requiring fulltime nursing care. It was an ordeal for our entire family.

I miss her tremendously she was like a mother to me and I a daughter to her. Very hard to believe sometimes that she''s no longer here. My mom now lives in the house all newly done and painted. I still refer to it as my aunt's house when I guess at this point ...it's not , it my mom's house now.

Thanks for asking...I love when people take the time to think of her and remember.

I want to join this D i s c o P a r - T a y too !!!

I had been contemplating starting out the month with a fast (after eating cooked and meat over Thanksgiving) yet I am realizing that with all the activities going on this month it may be unrealistic for me. My goal this month is to try some more of Alissa's recipes. That way I will be able to bring lots of great treats to work, and everywhere I go, to help keep me on track and not feel like I'm missing out on anything ;)

I'm starting out the day with a green smoothie ... banana, oranges, blueberries, romaine, ground flax :p
Gonna get out my mini-tramp too so I can get into the funky groove ... and be light on my feet
I will be going to Costco to shop tomorrow because I am really low on nuts and fruits and veggies.

I have a 23yo son, who lives with me, to whom I showed the "Eating - 2nd Edition" DVD to and he said, "OK, mom, I want to start eating like you after the first of the year, after my birthday." (which is on January 21st). He has been eating more fruit and veggies since watching the DVD too. :D

Yes, MISSLINDA...I found hulled barley at the HFS...it looks totally different than pearled barley, it actually looks sproutable if that makes sense. ;) I guess I'll soak that tonight, and start getting ready for that spanish rice I can't wait to try! I hope everyone has a VERY BLESSED DAY! Looking forward to getting to know you all! God Bless.

Breakfast: Green Smoothie (2 bananas, 1 orange, 1/2 c bluberries, 1/3 c dried green tea leaves, 6 romaine leaves, 1T ground flax)
Lunch: delicious salad (greens, black olives, cucumber, tomato, strawberries, pecans)
Dinner: tbd (most likely another salad w/avo and *hopefully* Alissa's blueberry pie)

and if i told you there's somebody who loves you
would you say, "hey, show me that face"
and if i told you that true freedom was actual
would you say, "hey, take me to that place?"
and if i said, "there is a family
a body that moves as one"
do you feel the LOVE that invites us
LIBERTY excites us
the DISCO has just begun, has just begun

give me love, give me liberty, disco
the place everybody in the family's found
on that day we will all be happy people
when love, liberty, disco's in town

and as we step into the light of the lover
we're all the same, there's no rich or poor
and you know it's never been good for a man to be alone
so come on in, your name's on the door
what are we waiting for

all our fears are turning 'round
fall down, and meet your maker
where our true selves will be found
calling out to every lonely soul

I'm in...I'm in...I'm in-I'm in-I'm in!!!

Okay yall...I really NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED yall 'cause see what had happened was...my family decided they ain't tryin'a be all raw with me so a sistah has to try and hold it down by herself and it's HARRRRRDDDD with tempting foods in da house. I mean, they are doing "okay" but I'm ready to let go of some newly discovered food issues and emotional eating that I have just realized I had and admitted to having. I've been pretty silent about it...only revealing these things to a few of my raw friends. But now I am ready to "out myself" and join in the party! What "EYE" need to do is to come here and say something BEFORE I yield to the temptation rather than after the fact.

So....I am committing myself to this 30 day rawkin' December disco challenge! I've backed out of these thingies before (Misslinda, Tombi - no teasin' please!) but I really wanna do this and do it right! I've been raw for quite a while, but exclusively 100% with no little (or big) slips here and there...not long enough for my satisfaction.

I've been doing "pretty" good all week, having one cooked meal (or rather single item, not necessarily a "meal") a day but I'm ready to 86 that and get to the real deal.

So far today:

A hemp seed-banana-vanilla shake w/some sweet bread (dehydrated, not the baked stuff) on the side
Half a cantelope
A banana
A few terriyaki kale chips (these things are da BOMB!)

Edited to add the rest of the day:

MORE kale chips
Fruit cereal (apples, bananas, pears and raisins in a bowl with almond butter, agave, dash sea salt and a little water to make a "milk") YUMMY!
Dried pears (sweet, chewy and delicious)
Apple fruit leather made from left-over apple sauce
Cashews

Had to work in my daughter's preschool today. I was pround of myself because I made cupcakes for my daughters school and for the first time in my life I didn't eat any. I guess I will be eating the salad cause I think this is all I can eat there. O well sometimes we have to go where are family and friends wants to go. Foods eaten:

a couple tablespoons of red pepper hummous
an apple
salad at olive garden

Good morning everyone! Yesterday was great....but I had to (yet again) change my meal plan, as the trip to my mother-in-laws was pushed into overdrive and I didn't have time to make a salad. I ended up going to the grocery store, with only a couple of $$ in my pocket, and the only thing that I wanted was cantelope. So I bought it, and ate the WHOLE THING...by myelf, except for the sliver my DH's grandmother ate!! You would think I would've felt sick...but no way!! Today's meal plan is ?????? I guess I'll post that later.
It's so great to see everyone here!! Rawkinlocs....{{{{{hugs}}}}} I hate to say I'm glad you posted your struggles. I always feel like I'm the only one and you posting and being "real" makes me realize we are all the same!! Thank you!
Best day to EVERYONE here!! Ya'll are CRAAAAAZYYY! So much fun. Wish I was into more "disco", but I "grew up" in the 80's, and never got into disco even when my sister and her friends did in the early 90's  So when it comes to all that, I'm lost....anyway...enjoying your posts! '
MAKE IT YOUR BEST DAY EVER!!

HEY EVERYONE!

I am in for this month and I am definitely going to need this. I let the cold weather get to me (been around 10 degress and so far two days without power due to the ice storm - looks like glass houses all around:D ). I ate some hot things I should have eaten but oh well....I am bloated and extremely constipated but it's okay. I shoudn't have caved under the family pressure. I still, however, know that this is my journey, my life long journey - raw living. So, enough said. I in for the December journey. I am going to try my best to post everyday. I've been busy busy busy... I guess I shouldn't have said I'm so bored at my new job .. my co-worker became gravely ill and has been in the hospital for the past two weeks. Now, she is out and going to be with family while she recooperates and may or may not return some time in January 2007.

I am going to try to post more often this month. I am soooooooooo tired and I think I am going to have to push myself harder than ever before this month. There are going to be lots of pressures this month - work, family and I am going to California at the end of the year (but I think that trip will be okay.. I am going to treat myself to some raw restaurants) and I'm also going to Ohio to visit my grandparents (that trip will be hard).

I tell you this everyone - looking back is dangerous; all these distractions make me sometimes digress but I need to really try to stay focused. So that's where I'm at; I can't believe all the changes this year, the weight loss, the eating transformation.... it is amazing. I think I am looking back because I am a little scared. I have really made some great and powerful transformations that I really want to share with you guys and will soon I hope. I guess it sounds kinda stupid to say I am a little scared but you know. we can become really complacent and conditioned with a lifestyle that wasn't intended for us or a part of our purpose. I guess I'm not really "scared" of change but just so unsure about what to expect but I do believe that good things are within my reach and so I am like "Janell just hold on and be steadfast because an ultimate breakthrough is on the way".

I think I was supposed to be talking about food.... I am digressing but it just seems like everything is falling into place and I just really really need to stay focused and I believe all these distractions are a test how just how much I can endure.

I'm proud of everyone here - just know that... I don't have time to post at work all the time but I try to get on and read. I am really glad to have this support system of people who are proud to be raw.

Today, I think I'm just going to go with fruit because it's easy to transport and munch on until the power comes back on. I dislike hotels. I have been sleeping upright in a chair because I don't trust these beds. I think that it's all about citrus for me today... lots of oranges and some grapefruit.

Thanks for the welcomes. Tvillemom, I'm a child of the 80's too but I have a tiny bit of 70's in me as well - I was born in the 70's but don't remember a whole lot about them except things of the late 70's as I got a little older.

Well, yesterday went fantabulous I'm happy to say. Today, I'm headed to a meeting and was asked to bring something so I'm toting along my strawberry-lemonade, Alissa's onion dip w/ carrots and celery sticks and her strawberry crepes. I haven't really eaten today with the exception of sampling the things I'm taking with me and a few of those kale chips.

Ready to take on day 2!

Hello to all my new RAWsome pals :p

Whew (Big, Huge Sigh).... lunch was a close one for me today..... I worked this morning til noon with no snacks, but did have a Green smoothie this morning (today i had water, tahini, banana, agave, baby spinach and kale), so around 12:30 I was RAVENOUS and was tempted to reach for my SAD hubby's cold pizza
THANK GOODNESS I had some mock tuna already made up and some collard greens in fridge, so I made a wrap instead and cut up some turnip in the shape of fries  .... now that's more like it.....

As I was talking with a friend about my Raw Food Journey, I suddenly realized that it's just like the AA program in that I need to take this "one day at a time" so as not to get overwhelmed... and even to make it easier, one meal at a time... I do realize the key is to keep the fridge stocked with luscious fruits and veggies and a little planning ahead helps too.....

SO...... I'LL BE GOSH DARN..... I'M GONNA MAKE IT WORK THIS TIME, I say pounding my fist on the table for some added determination ;)

Hope you're all having a RAWsome day.......thanks for listening!!

Peace and Joy!
DG :)

love the new pic! ;) How do you make kale chips? I just bought kale when I just went grocery shopping and spent like a million dollars! gotta keep the SAD and the raw food on hand to keep everyone happy!....and we are getting ready for a big storm so I feel like a squirrel stocking up for winter!!! AAAGGGHHH! I am right on edge, nothing but running around today on top of my long run this a.m. That's why I like to "come here" and veg for awhile in the middle of chaos... ommmm! Or should I be singing a disco song! Hey, I was born in the 60's and a teen in the 80's so I definately relate to all of this....I must admit I still think John Travolta is H-O-T!!!!! I had the farrah fawcett hair and everything!!! Oh, those were the days ((lol))

I can't wait to make a huge salad later with all the "stuff" I just bought and some avacado! Yummmmmmm....had like 9 bananas after my long run this a.m. (yes 9!!!) but it was a 20 mile run so that's an acceptable amount right???
now I must focus and do "lesson plans" for next week.....maybe decorate for Christmas later with the kids too....anyone else doing that yet?

BTW-what do you all do for a living...I know it's off topic, just being nosey....if we're all doing disco and staying raw throught the holidays we may as well know how everyone spends their workday right :D Obviously, I am a teacher....special education...ages 5-7 and "high maintenance"...and you?

Hi everyone,

I'm in to joining! My mom saw Saturday Night Fever while she was pregnant with me so that qualifies me. :p I've been pretty high raw the past couple weeks (caved to the cooked vegan food when I was home for thanksgiving though). I have yet to do a full 30 day challenge and now is as good a time as ever! I love the idea of starting off the new year clean!

Yesterday:
soaked steel cut oats w/almond milk, part of an apple
flax crackers and the rest of the apple from breakfast
salad for lunch w/lemon juice for dressing
small pizza and 2 slices of Alissa's easy apple pie

Today so far:
raw granola and almond milk with a banana
fruit, flax crackers with avo and tomato

This weekend I plan on making the burgers, buns, crepes and angel hair pasta with marinara. That should keep me stocked up for the week!

NFrawRUNNERBTW - I work for an Aerospace company that makes a lot of cool stuff that goes in airplanes ... Flight Data Recorders, Flight Management Systems, etc. I am one of the database administrators for our Product Data Management tool and I am the Staff Engineer for the Change Management Organization.

I was *in love* with John Travolta ((sigh)) and loved to Disco!

Well, I went shopping BIG TIME this morning and I'm all stocked up ... for a while anyway ... Once I got everything put away I was so excited to see everything all stocked up again (I let myself get real low on some staples). I was just bursting with energy ... so I shoveled some ice and snow (I live in a condo and they usually take care of that).

I made Alissa's Blueberry Pie and I have some flax seed crackers and Pesto Stuffed Mushrooms in the dehydrator right now. I will be making some Mock Salmon Pate in a little while.

Today I've eaten:
leftover blueberries and filling from making the pie

It is so cool that I'm not really hungry today and I'm rollin' with it.

My plan for the evening is to have some celery with macadamia/cashew butter that I made yesterday and a piece of pie. Oh, and I'm sure I'll be enjoying the pesto stuffed mushrooms when they're ready :D

Linda - yeah, I was trying to create a "disco effect" for the theme :) Thank you for the compliment!

Morn - Yep, that's me. Thank you!

NfRawrunner - There is one variation of the kale chips found here: http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10230&highlight=kale

But the way I make mine is teriyaki style...I don't have exact measurements as when I make things I do it on the fly but I'm trying to get to a point of writing stuff down. I can give you the ingredients, though:

1 bunch of kale, washed, deveined/stemmed and broken into desired-sized pieces
nama shoyu (maybe like 1/4 c.)
olive oil (maybe like 2 tsp.)
agave (this can be to taste...I like mine kinda sweet for a salty/sweet flavor so I use probably about 2 TBS or so but you can use less)
ginger (powdered or you can use fresh I suppose - I think about 1 tsp.)
dash of cayenne or more to taste if you like it really spicy
garlic powder (about 1/4 tsp. or more if you just LOVE a lot of garlic...which I don't)
onion powder (about 1/2 tsp.)

I mix all the marinade ingredients in a bowl and then I add the kale and mix it all up with my hands and really rub the mixture into the leaves. I let it sit for at least 4 hours...sometimes overnight. Lay out evenly over the mesh screen (may want to put something underneath to catch drippings) and dehydrate until dry and crispy.

So, after getting back in the house not too long ago, I must say the day went okay. I didn't eat anything contrary, but I DID get some awful tempting moments at various points throughout the day. I am really seeing how much of an emotional eater I am. There was a time whenever I got stressed I'd just NOT eat...now, I get tempted to eat junk food when I get stressed or upset.

I did eat some onion dip with the veggies and flax crackers; kale chips; a banana; more dried pear; green smoothie (earlier before I left home); and some hemp/cashew milk.

So I'm definitely NOT hungry...just having those withdrawals. My hubby and the two eldest just went to the store and I know they're probably coming home with chips (arrgg  ) I'll probably turn in early tonight as to avoid those latenight munchies and the possibility of even more temptation.

On to day 3!

Happy Sunday Everyone!

I feel so much better since I forced myself to do some exercise. I can't wait to check out of this hotel. I am tired and feel stiff. I'm eating a very late breakfast today- it's almost 10 a.m. I am going to do a couple of oranges. I think I'm doing some citrus fruits and a bunch of water. They help me when I feel like this. I don't have a game plan for later.... I might take a chance on a restaurant garden salad. I can't wait until the power comes back on. As soon as I'm able, I'm going to have some fajitas... I am craving mexican/latin food like crazy. I've been thinking about avocados also.

I just had a thought.... "where's Mary". I was thinking about people who been around since I first decided to go 100% raw in August and Mary was one of the names that popped into my head. I know I was extremely busy last month so I might be out of the loop. Just wondering how your doing Mary.

Song for today - I will survive

You guys are all doing wonderful. I am so proud of you all, you have definately inspired me. I've been in a bit of a deflated mood about raw, for whatever reason, have not been able to get myself going.

I shoveled a bunch of snow this morning. We have a driveway about a couple hundred feet long. It was a nice work-out, very meditative, peaceful and calming. I felt like I was in a Japanese sand garden. Felt pleasantly tired afterward.

Funny thing was DH wasn't in the mood to do it when I asked him if he wanted to join me.

He said the sun would probably melt it off. I told him I would go ahead and do it, and I think he felt a little guilty, and tried to persuade me not to. I told him I wanted to, for the arm work-out and to get out in the sun and fresh air.

He said I could work out with the dumbells, but I said, the dumbells are so boring, this is why I never really like to work-out, because it's so repetitive and boring.

I have been rebounding with light dumbells, but I never look forward to it. Funny how I could spend 1/2 hour doddling on the computer, but find it a chore to exercise. I've been thinking of buying one of those mini-cycles to put under my desk, lol.

On Dec 1 I water fasted until dinnertime. I made some pineapple cranberry juice and a smoothie and then I had some vegan non-raw stuff later.

I have not been eating all raw this weekend, but am planning on starting tomorrow.

So I'll be singing "I will survive" in my head today as a motivator to get me on track with raw tomorrow.

(The "YOU" in the song = cooked food.) ;)

I Will Survive Lyrics
by Gloria Gaynor

First I was afraid
I was petrified
Kept thinking I could never live
without you (cooked) by my side
But I spent so many nights
thinking how you (cooked) did me wrong
I grew strong
I learned how to carry on
and so you're (cooked) back
from outer space
I just walked in to find you (cooked) here
with that sad (SAD) look upon your (cooked) face
I should have changed my stupid lock
I should have made you (cooked) leave your (cooked) key
If I had known for just one second
you'd (cooked) be back to bother me

Go on now go walk out the door
just turn around now
'cause you're (cooked) not welcome anymore
weren't you (cooked) the one who tried to hurt me with goodbye
you think I'd crumble
you think I'd lay down and die
Oh no, not I
I will survive
as long as i know how to love
I know I will stay alive
I've got all my life to live
I've got all my love to give
and I'll survive
I will survive

It took all the strength I had
not to fall apart
kept trying hard to mend
the pieces of my broken heart
and I spent oh so many nights
just feeling sorry for myself
I used to cry
Now I hold my head up high
and you see me
somebody new
I'm not that chained up little person
still in love with you (cooked)
and so you (cooked) felt like dropping in
and just expect me to be free
now I'm saving all my loving
for someone (raw, fresh & alive!) who's loving me

* Sharon - How perfect is that song?! And to find out what some of the actualy lyrics are ;) I sing my own versions, hehe :p

December 3rd -

Juice of 2 grapefruits with E3Live
Braeburn apple
Smoothie : oranges, celery, frozen strawberries, ground flax

.... day is only half done....

November was about 90% raw. I intend December to be the same, if not more. I was going through my mess of a closet today and found so many of my clothes that haven't seen the light of day in nearly 2 years because they no longer fit. How I miss those clothes! :(

Yes I want my skin to continue getting clearer and more glow-y, and I would LOVE more energy than I have on a regular basis, dry scalp be gone I hope... however in all honesty I really just want the extra weight gone. Period. I love raw foods, and I love how I feel eating raw, so it works out to my benefit :p that eating this way will help my body regulate weight-wise.

And in all honesty, I'm feeling some frustration and impatience... :(

Sharon,

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! for that song ... That was the best! I can not think of anything more perfect to focus on.

Today after two bananas and some plum juice I made the night before, I went to church, with a huge headache. I came home and slept for 3 hours and wasn't looking forward to just a salad or piecie of fruit. I talked myself through it and ate a large Papaya...it was delicious along with a LARA Bar.

I too had being feeling blah about my food choices but now after looking at all the posts ...I feel inspired once again.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU ... EVERYONE... WE'RE NOT ALONE!!!!

Good evening! I am really late posting. Today was an awefully busy day. I've really only eaten some dehydrated sunflower seeds today. I wasn't really hungry. Drank lots of water, but for dinner I'm eating a LARGE salad. For dinner last night we went out with a ministry group called "Missionettes". It's a girls "club" in our church...Assemblies of God started it...but I'm PH. Anyway, our coordinator took the sponsors and our spouses all out for dinner. The restaurant was very "homecooking/Italian" food. Walking in the door I was praying for strength....the smells were so good. Looking through the menu I thought I was sunk, till I looked on the last page and found the "LARGE GREEK SALAD"....I ordered that (without cheese of course) and was in RAW heaven!! Later at home, DH had awful indigestion. I felt really bad for him. The indigestion lasted until the am...even with meds. I KNOW he was wishing he would've gotten a salad ;) SCORE for RAW!! (oh yeah, he knows!!) I'll check back in tomorrow morning. Ya'll take care.
BRWNRAWGIRL: I haven't made the spanish rice yet, but I think I'll get in there and throw it together and have it with my salad!! Ya'll take care.

Girlsmiley - How did you like the blueberry pie?
Oh Morn! I so appreciate your encouragement and help in answering my questions. If I wouldn't have seen you post it in your "what I ate today" posts last month I would not have tried to make it until spring, when the blueberries are in season. It is delicious! So fresh tasting and feels like "cheating" a bit. I took a picture of it and e-mailed it to my family and friends. I just may make it for our Christmas Eve get-together.

Girlsmiley, that blueberry pie is famous around here! Just by you changing the font color of the word, I could almost taste it.
Well, I am so inspired by you and all your colorful posts! I will never be the same :D

Today I ... went to church, enjoyed friends, conversation, and had a wonderful salad at Johnny Carino's; savored a piece of blueberry pie; ate several pesto stuffed mushrooms; finished my flax seed crackers and mock salmon pate ...

Thanks for that song Sharon and don't worry, you'll come out of that slump soon...it happens!

Well, if there was ever a challenging day temptation-wise, today was the day!

We went to church service that was held in the pastor's home. After service, his wife served food. I looked on the table for some salad but there was nothing fresh there (at first). I asked her if she had any salad and then one of the members had brought a veggie tray with sticks of carrots, beets, jicama and green beans with a ranch dressing. I ate the veggies w/o the ranch. I also (thankfully) had packed some dried pears and those "just like ritz crackers" then the pastor's wife brought me a plate of apples she sliced. So I was good and a few of the people there took notice and asked me about it and told them I was eating raw for 30-days (though "EYE" knew clearly this is a lifestyle) and they were very inquisitive in a good way and I gave a few of them my card and some are interested in taking a raw prep class!

I DID eat something that wasn't raw, though but I still feel fine about that choice...it was toasted seaweed of some sort...not sure whether or not it was nori, but it was a bright green color. It was good though...my husband liked them too. The pastor's wife is Korean so she had rice, kimchi, that seaweed amongst other things. So, that was the only non-raw something I had in the midst of all that food and dessert. I didn't care about the food, but those cakes were calling me and it was hard not to say, "Oh they (you guys here) won't ever know if I have a little slice"...but "EYE" would know and I didn't feel it was worth it, so I passed on it - thank you Lord!

So, got home and had some green smoothie, cashews and hubby is out getting some grapes so I'll have some of those in a bit.

Hi Everyone!

CONGRATULATIONS, Rawkinlocks :D on resisting the temptation and saying NO to the cake - I'm sure it was not easy to do in the midst of many SAD eaters. Sounds like your hostess was very gracious in accomodating your RAW needs, which is awesome, too! yippie for you!!

I made it thru day 3 one meal at a time! Today I had:
Bkfst - Green Smoothie
Lunch - small amount of leftover fetticini alfredo at home before going out to lunch with hubby (or DH??? what does that stand for anyway  , then at restaurant, had nice garden salad with greens, cucumber, red onion, tomatoes, shredded carrot
Dinner time - apple, banana chunks with walnuts and raw honey
snack - banana and mango blended with raw cashews

Hope you're all doing well and enjoying the raw food journey ;)
Nitey nite ;)

Hi everyone,

Great job so far! I had a nice rest of my day. Did yoga then had lunch with a friend at the raw cafe we love (we shared live brushetta and hummus with two kinds of crackers and I had a brownie sundae for dessert). Did another yoga class and then had a tangerine and two pecan carrot burgers I made yesterday. I must say, those burgers ARE SO GOOD!! It honestly surprised me! I'm gonna make the buns later or tomorrow. Have a great week everyone!!

LUV that song Sharon.........that's one of my fav tunes. Those are rawkin lyrics! It's great to hear your strength thru the weekend. I'm diggin the peddles under the desk idea INGENIOUS :)

Veganprincess, do you make your own brownie sundae??

Rawkinlocs, 1000 points for you * DING DING * Dessert are my weakness too! What a blessing and b/c of it, you have clients !!!!!

Well yeah, LQQKS like everyone is putting 200% in and that is very motivating and INSPIRATIONAL!

This morning my sister finally is going to give up BEEF! I've been hoping and praying so long for this day!!!!!!!!! ~:">~<":~"~

I was having lunch at the local cafe and reading.......had my salad (baby spinach, sliced bananas and avacado chunks). The gal next to me at the neighboring table looked over and asked "Are you doing that RAW thing?" I kinda chuckled *thinking* how fresh foods are NOW automatically associated with RAW LIFESTYLE rather than everyday food ;)

That experience kept me motivated and realized that I am doing something for myself that some people don't even consider............eating good ole plain fresh foods. It's amazing how many kinds of processed foods exist in a grocery store and have to order weekly to meet customer demands. So today, I AM PROUD OF MYSELF.CRAZY!

I'll do the infamous Dharmagirl colors to make my menu look more fun! :p
Today's food:

3 oz wheatgrass juice

salad: baby spinach, banana slices and avacado chuncks

2 small honeycrisp apples

water

komnbucha

raisins

Another new week! Yay!

Breakfast: soaked steel cut oats with almond milk and mango

Good morning everyone. Have a rawesome day.

I am sailing through finals period like a breeze because I've been eating raw these past two months and the stress is SO not getting to me. I'm sleeping great, studying hard and am very focused, bc my mind is clear from all this healthy, raw food. I am getting straight A's in all five of my classes.

The other students half my age are a friggin mess on the other hand, 1/2 the class has put on an average of ten pounds, they're all breaking out, grabbing candy bars on the run from the vending machines in the hallways, sneezing and coughing their way through class, talking about how tired and overwhelmed they are.

And I would be just like them were it not for raw food. I'm just hoping I have the willpower to make it through the holiday season without eating cooked, that has been my downfall these last two years. :)

Song for today: Rubber Biscuit

Rawkinlocs - thank you!!!

Miss Linda what did you say to that girl in the restaraunt?

Path - Do you remember the Rubber Biscuit song? That is surely a real oldy...I don't even think this qualifies as disco!

Right now I'm chugging down a quart OJ-BANANA-CRANBERRY-FROZEN MANGO-ICE smoothie.

I'll be water fasting for the rest of the day.

Will report back here in an edit. Planning on getting on the rebounder for 20 minutes.

Yesterday I reorganized the whole pantry. It is so nice to declutter!

Rubber Biscuit Lyrics

Bow bow bow...

Have you ever heard of a wish sandwich? A wish sandwich is the kind of a sandwich where you have two slices of bread and you, hee hee hee, wish you had some meat...

Bow bow bow...

Ummm... the other day I had a ricochet biscuit. A ricochet biscuit is the kind of a biscuit that's supposed to bounce back off the wall into your mouth. If it don't bounce back... you go hungry!

Bow bow bow...

Umm, umm, umm... the other day I had a cool water sandwich and a Sunday-go-to-meetin' bun...

Bow bow bow...

Hee hee hee hee... What da ya want for nothing? ... a rubber biscuit?

Good morning! I am posting late because I had to take the kids out to the store to get some cold meds. (for them) Oh, I can hear it now.....the groans and shrieks that I'm treating my kids with meds when they are congested. I'm not sure what else to do though, when I can't get them to eat well. I bought some echinacea for them....and I've taken them off of dairy, so we are taking it one step at a time. If anyone knows how I can treat them, I'll be happy to try other natural treatments. One DS gets congestion way up in his head, so I have to be careful or he will quickly get an infection.
Anyway, so far today I've had water. I suffered from SEVERE indigestion last night....now I'm thinking it's detox from all the rotten stuff I've eaten lately. Sticking with water, and juice for lunch. I'll post later the foods I've eaten.
Best day to everyone. Good to see DREAMRAWALWZ here, welcome! Everyone is doing so great.
PATH sorry to hear about that flat tire, what a bummer.
Anyway, ya'll are eating such great foods, I need to get on the ball. I have a busy day today, going to the Dr. with my sister for an ultrasound, and have to do school work with the kids....I'm off. Post later!

Busy day yesterday. We spent a bunch of time trying to clean up our garage a bit and winterizing power tools, getting gas for snow blower, etc. I did however finally make that tropical lime pie that I had gotten all the ingredients for. It was a lot of work to make but it was pretty good. The crust was made out of agave and dried coconut. Anyway, I also cut open my first pineapple that was going bad. I tried to salvage what I could from it but it was very little. Then I ate some of it and felt deathly ill. The wierd part was my daughter ate some too and she was fine (but she had pizza in her stomach first) and I had a dinner salad prior. So I don't know if that made a difference. I probably should have thrown it away but I love fresh pineapple and wanted some. Can you get food poisening from fruit that has started to go bad? Does anyone know? Food eaten yesterday:

a slice of tropical lime pie
small piece of sprouted carrot/raisen bread with almond butter
dinner salad with raspberry vinegarette dressing
pineapple

Path - sorry to hear about the tire. Hopefully you got some food now!
Sharon - loved that song "I will Survive" (I will never think the same way about that song again)
Rawkinlocs - great job yesterday staying raw. I know that can be a challenge especially around the church folk cause Christians know how to eat!
Being - You are doing great! I know it gets discouraging but hang on because the prize is ahead and you will be in the clothes again in no time!

How quickly I find time passing.

I have not done too too well as yet, the first day went well but then I had popcorn and yogurt the past two evenings. But this is alright for I do not plan to have this again, and my headache from lack of coffee is finally gone too without taking any advil.

Right now I am having carrotts, celery, brocolli and cauliflowers and it tastes so good.

Last night while decorating the Christmas tree I listened to the BeeGees for the spirit of this challenge. I found some of their songs really good especially Owner of my heart and Still waters run deep. :)

I was also thinking, what has changed in my diet since last trying this challenge and realized I no longer eat meat nor do I have cravings for it and I no longer drink diet pepsi, though every once in a while I wonder how good an ice cold one would be. So this is good. :)

I do have a question though, I went into my health store yesterday and saw a product called Vital Greens by Naka. I asked the lady there if it was popular, she said yes, that many take it first thing in the morning... and swear it makes them feel good. I am wondering though if any have heard of it and if it is raw?

I am glad of this challenge, and to read others thoughts during this too, and though I might not be able to offer advice on many things, I will if I read things I have had experience in.

Well I did my traditional Monday weighin (I have to weighin on Wednesday too for the exercise challenge), but I started on a Monday so I continue to weigh every Monday. I am down 4 pounds from last Monday (and total since raw is 31 pounds). I am actually officially under 200 (199 but it's still under 200!) for the first time in about 4 1/2 years. I think the exercise has helped even though I don't exercise every day due to schedule. My goal is at least 3 times a week and I did meet my goal last week. With help from Di and the exercise thread. Thanks Di - You are a great cheerleader!

Anyway I have to work tonight and I will bring my workout bag if I get off at a decent time. Most likely though it will be a long night as Monday's generally are. My food intake for today is:

Hummus with carrots

Later for dinner:
large garden salad with veggies and strawberries on top
tropical lime pie (for dessert)

And Maybe an apple for a snack sometime later

Misslinda - I have a general calender I keep on the fridge (with my childrens stuff, and mine and some of my husbands), however, I need to start writing down all the stuff that is swimming around my head and prioritize them before I go crazy. How I pretty much operate is I run around figuring out what fire needs to be put out next and then I tackle that. Not very effective. I need real help in the organization department. My house and my life show it. I am much too busy to be this disorganized. Another problem is that I don't have a regular schedule at work that is consistent which throws off my body's time clock. I am on nights at the beginning of the week and at the end of the week I have to adjust my body to be on days. It is pretty screwed up to say the least. Anyway any advise you can offer that would help would be beneficial. Thanks

Green juice: Kale, parsley, celery, ginger, lime, apple and E3Live

Walk brisk 30 minutes

Thanks for the invite!

This morning as I awoke I decided, "no more cheating?" This thread will be great to help encourage me. The nasty back ache from eating SAD yesterday is also rather convincing.

Me -- yes, I did that disco stuff -- remember it well. It was fun dancing under the glittering ball. Don't think I ever had a white pant suit though. Dang!

Thus far today:

1 banana (breakfast)
1/2 lime juiced with 2 t. ACV, 2-3 t. molassas, stevia and 16-19 oz water

I'm joining you all!
Welcome, welcome, welcome! We are so glad to have you with us :)

I am actually officially under 200 (199 but it's still under 200!) for the first time in about 4 1/2 years.
RAWK ON MORN!

I have a Dr. appt tomorrow for my 3 month diabetic check up ... and I've been on my raw journey for 3 months too ... so I am anxious to see how my numbers (A1C and cholesterol etc.) are doing.

I brought some of my blueberry pie to work and shared with a co-worker ... he wanted the recipe. He is also a recently diagnosed diabetic so I've been *preaching* to him and passing on all the information I can get about how the SAD affects blood sugar etc.

I still have 1/2 a pie left so I will bring it to work with me to share with more of my coworker(friends) who have already tried some of my other RAWcreations :D

Today I've eaten:

2 oranges
2 apples
blueberry pie
carrots
celery and nut butter

Tonight I am going to have a green smoothie with a banana, 2 oranges, frozen blueberries, ground flax, and broccoli rabe

I wanna put on,
My ma-ma-ma-ma's boogie shoes
And boogie with you!
I'm with ya! My NEW Fav'rite Thing is eating raw and feeling rawsome!

Girl, To Be With You Is My Fav'rite Thing
Uh Huh
And I Can't Wait Til I See You Again
Yeah, Yeah
I Want To Put On My My My My My
Boogie Shoes
Just To Boogie With You, Yeah
I Want To Put On My My My My My
Boogie Shoes Just To Boogie With You,Uh Huh
I Want To Do It 'til The Sun Comes Up
Uh Huh, And I Want To Do It 'til
I Can't Get Enough, Yeah, Yeah
I Want To Put On My My My My My
Boogie Shoes
Just To Boogie With You, Yeah
I Want To Put On My My My My My
Boogie Shoes Just To Boogie With You
Uh Huh, Yeah Yeah
I Want To Put On My My My My My
Boogie Shoes
Just To Boogie, With You, Yeah

Hi everyone!!

I agree about the awesome rawsome energy here.... It's GRRRRREAT, thanks everyone :D

I'm really starting to enjoy eating raw, but it feels like I'm gaining weight... HMMMM... i do remember reading somewhere on this site that when you first go raw, you can get bloated from all the fiber.... just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. Other than that, I really feel great; mostly what i notice is feeling more focused/clearer mind...... also, my body just can't seem to get enough raw... i've also noticed that I don't seem to want as much water, altho i know i gotta keep drinking it..... Today was a pretty cold and windy day, so i really had to psyche myself up to eat cold food, but really, it did satisfy me and i don't feel like i want anything hot..... Here's what I've eaten:
green smoooooothie - spinach, kale, banana, tahini, strawberries, agave - YUM
mixed green salad w/tomato, cuke, orange bell pepper, celery
persimmonblueberry pie
apple, banana, walnuts, raw honey cut up in a bowl

Gotta run......... EVERYONE keep up the rawsome work - TOGETHER we WILL make it......... oh yeah, congrats to Morn ;)

Peace and Joy to All!

(((standing ovation to Morn))) :D Without even seeing you I can sense the metamophisis!!!! Not only is your weight dropping but your attitude is evolving into a confidently raw mama!!!! I am very proud of you! You do have a crazy work schedule and you are adapting awesomely (is that a real word?) Good for you Morn!!! I had a bit of a slip up this week end too... :( ...but I am back on track now....Every time I do a long run I just can't seem to get enough salty food which makes sense of course losing so much salt I guess).....Next Saturday I will need to bypass those cravings somehow because I am hosting a "holiday dinner party" (Mexican) for my 4 assistants and their significant others....BTW Saturday is my "long run" day....Phoenix, AZ marathon is only 42 days away!!! I always rent a movie or 2 to watch while I run...Think I'll try to find Saturday Night Fever!!!!!
Here's my joke for the day: How do you make a tissue dance? Put a little boogie in it!!!! :D Sorry, I know it's tacky. But I teach 4-6 year olds and thought it fit the disco thread somehow!

Anyway, very proud of all of you! You are inspiring me to STAY RAW!!! Hey, my favorite jeans in the 70's were these fringed bell bottoms and a shirt with sort of like butterfly sleeves....think they're back in style!!! we rawk!

Good evening everyone! I have had such a busy day. My sister had an ultrasound...she just found out she's pregnant
I'M GOING TO BE AN AUNT FOR THE FIRST TIME!!
Can ya tell I'm excited. Anyway...she's only 7 weeks, so we have a LONG way to go.
Today I didn't have much time to eat...
Lots of water before lunch, due to some indigestion I felt like I was still healing from last night.
Lunch was a banana
Dinner was SPANISH RICE Yummy!! Very chewy, but had a nice flavor.
I've been craving olives, but now I'm wanting some spice. I wish I had some jalepenos, I would make the much raved about jalepeno poppers  oh well. Maybe next time I hit the grocery store.
So glad to see all the energy here. This is just what I needed.
I'd like to hear any NEW recipes ya'll try, and if you like them. What other things are you doing that seem to be helping you stay on track??? I'm seriously imagining the NEW ME...THIN, RADIANT WITH THAT RAW GLOW!! Anyway, have a great night.
Oh yeah, somebody mentioned a brownie sundae here (I think) I've made a brownie sundae before, this is how I did it:
1. make RP's brownies
2. frost RP's brownies with "store bought frosting" recipe from the board
3. make fudge syrup from the board and refrigerate
4. Make banana ice cream...top a square of brownie with some of each....even a sprinkle of nuts.

YUMMY....I knew I was in raw heaven when I ate that!!!
Take care

Anyway, I made it through the day but boy did I have the munchies.
2 bananas
1 Lara Bar
Juiced 4 oranges
Mango
raw pistachios
apple
baby carrots

nite nite all ...off to write another paper. The semester will be over next week...I can not wait.

BTW- Tvillemom, glad to hear the Spanish Rice was good. I bought some barley(hulled) today so that I could make some tomorrow... I love that stuff.

This was me yesterday as I was biting into my salad. But I realized that my panicking was of the "future" and not enjoying what I am at the moment and that is, I was simply eating a salad. The anxiety hit me for a second as I thought "What am I doing?" I wasn't concentrating on enjoying my salad and I right away sat up in my chair and started to smile :)

Somehow the my moment of panick passed and I'm excited again about my RAWdom! ...PHEW

Brownrawgirl, and misslinda, I also had that moment of panick this weekend, I know it's dumb, and very unhealthy, but if I remember right, the thought was about "missing" McDonald's takeout. I think it's more of missing that warm soft bread on the sandwich....then I did what someone else here said, I'm taking it ONE DAY AT A TIME

I WILL SURVIVE

Food for the rest of the day:

yam chips and fruit
salad w/avocado & lemon juice
tangerine & 2 tiny apples
dinner was 2 small pecan burgers on top of green salad and 2 small slices of apple pie

I'm off to go make the buns for my almost gone burgers and the wrapper of the crepes. I was having a sweet craving at work and walked into the kitchen to find some leftover from a meeting fruit salad sitting there. Just what I needed! I left the cookies for everyone else.

Night guys. Good job on day 4! Time is flying by!

Vegan Princess, are you making Alissa's burger buns and crepes? I love those. I haven't made the burger buns in awhile, next time I make them, I will make them thinner, so they get "done" on the inside.
It would really help me, personally if everyone would take the time, if they can mention where they are getting their recipes. Like if they are making something...and having it for a meal. For instance: last night I had Alissa's spanish rice for dinner...it was great!! That way, as the month goes on, and I get bored, I can see the other dishes others are eating and maybe try something new, if I have that uncookbook!!

Good morning all! I am feeling pretty good today!! I ate barely anything yesterday, but I really didn't feel hungry either, I think from some major digestion problems I had on Sunday....detox I guess!!

Today I'm planning on having:
B: green smoothie
L: Alissa's spanish rice (I'm adding in some jalepeno, for more heat)
D: chili from the board, with no grains....LOVE THAT STUFF...MY FAVORITE RECIPE!!! So versatile, you can add or take away about anything, but the avos make it a "hearty" chili. :D

Rawkinlocs...I do really like sprouted barley!! We talked about this on another thread....I think I'll try Alissa's chili next time, I bet it's good too. What else do you use sprouted barley for?? It was really filling and seemed to get rid of my cravings for SAD carbs!! Thanks for the info earlier!!

For the first time in the challenge, I exercised! I really want to get in some exercise everyday, but it seems my family gets busy as soon as we wake up in the morning. From now on I'm gonna try to set the alarm for an earlier time .....but doing some yoga was nice this morning!!

Everyone have a great RAW day!

Song: We Are Family Lyrics
(CHORUS:)
We are family
I got all my sisters with me
We are family
Get up ev'rybody and sing

Ev'ryone can see we're together
As we walk on by
(FLY!) and we fly just like birds of a feather
I won't tell no lie
(ALL!) all of the people around us they say
Can they be that close
Just let me state for the record
We're giving love in a family dose

(CHORUS x2)

Living life is fun and we've just begun
To get our share of the world's delights
(HIGH!) high hopes we have for the future
And our goal's in sight
(WE!) no we don't get depressed
Here's what we call our golden rule
Have faith in you and the things you do
You won't go wrong
This is our family Jewel

Mornin' all!

Made it through another day! Just finished a bowl of "cereal" (apples, pears, bananas, raisins, dash of cinnamon and a little bit of oat groats with almond butter "milk").

Early part of yesterday I had grapes, carrot slaw (I used the leftover carrots and celery from the meeting on Saturday along with the onion dip and blended the dip with lemon juice, a little agave and some pepper and mixed it all up - yummy!

Last night, I had some "cheese" & crackers - I made a cheddar cheese from cashews, lemon juice, a little orange juice, sea salt and red/yellow bell pepper and then spread that on some crackers and popped into the dehydrator for a little while and it was good. I also had an apple, an orange, some grapes and some kale chips (which my oldest daughter discovered she likes!)

Tvillemom, glad you're having success with the barley! Yeah, Alissa's chili is VERY good especially topped with her onion dip (if you don't have macadamias, use cashews)! I think her meatloaf uses barley and RP always mentioned making that into burgers. I've tried them and they were pretty good especially topped with a sauce like the ketchup.

Have a rawsome day all!

Hey all! This afternoon I'm warming up with some herbal tea....
The energy is great here. I know I haven't posted to everyone, but I love reading what you all are doing all day!!! Hearing from ya'll really keeps me focused!
I haven't had lunch yet, but leftover spanish rice is in the dehydrator warming up alittle!
Dinner will be that chili from the board....YUMMY I can't wait!!

RAWKINLOCS...I can't wait to try barley burgers....sounds yummy for the winter time, don't ya think?

THEVOYAGER....I think it's cool that your groovin' all day :D And yes, I think that could count as a workout!! ;)

SHARON: I am lovin' reading the songs....and yes, I always feel a special connection with anyone I go through a 30 day challenge with, we do end up like a little family don't we??!!

VEGAN PRINCESS AND THEVOYAGER: My skin always has dark splotches, and I sometimes get breakouts, but I don't seem as splotchy today...thanks for helping me notice that!!

BRWNRAWGIRL: I sure wish I could find raw pistachios...I haven't seen them before, and I love the salted roasted ones I used to eat...I'll have to look for those next time, and yes, I think the spanish rice is soooo simple, that it may have to be a new favorite ;)

MORN: HOW EXCITING FOR YOU TO DROP THOSE LBS. :D CONGRATULATIONS. I hope you took some before pictures, so you can remember how "sad" you looked before raw....I did, and I can't wait to see the difference (on film) of before and after!!! I think it's sooo different when you can see it for yourself, and not just take everyone's compliments on how GREAT you look, but to actually SEE it compared side by side! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!

NFrawRUNNER: thanks for noticing my post, I am excited about my sister's baby....due date July 16th!! I finally get MY turn spoiling a baby...and handing it back when I'm done ;)

I know I left soooo many of you out....I wonder how many we actually have participating???

Hope you're all doing great and enjoying the raw journey as much as I am :p .

voyager and veganprincess, nice to hear your skin is clearing.... very inspirational as I keep watching mine, too... I am on day 5 of 100% and am noticing changes... did anyone see my previous post about the bloating? I have a feeling it's the fruit doing it, but so far today i feel better.... here's what i've eaten:

FRUIT CEREAL BOWL w/banana, bartlett pear, sunflower seeds, agave and cinnamon.....yum..... (no bloating which surprised me) ;)
MIXED GREEN SALAD w/baby spinach, celery, orange bell pepper, cuke, tomato.......... yum!
Lemonade w/maple syrup (just love it, tho, not raw, don't think)
Lots of water

Have some flax crackers in dehydrator..... sorta changed Alissa's recipe a bit and am looking forward to seeing how they come out.... golden flax seeds, garlic, juice of 1/2 lemon, shredded carrot, fresh gingerroot, onion powder, squirt of braggs...mmmmmmm

So what are you all eating on this beautiful Day 5????

So far today I had a couple of oranges for breakfast, some pistaccios later in the day for a snack, some veggies with a olive oil/ vinegger/pepper type of dressing for lunch, some raisins for a snack this afternoon and then later on tonight, I don't know....

I think today could be the big day (been without power and in a hotel since last Thursday due to the ice storm).... I can feel it, I'll be in my own bed tonight....

Girlsmiley, congratulations on the bloodwork. I'm not that familiar with diabetes, but the decrease in those numbers looks out of this world! Hang in there, and in another 3 months maybe you'll be off the meds for good!!

Being: what's that garam masala....???? Sounds interesting, do you have a recipe...I've never heard of it before.

Hey ya'll....moderators.....it would be so awesome if this sight had a chat room. One of the web sites I went to before...was healthy eating....and we did classes about every 2-3 months...kinda like this challenge, and there would be times of the day where a moderator, or the "main lady" herself would come to the site and we would all "chime in"....it was AMAZING!! The amount of energy that the chat room carried was soo much fun, and you could really "talk" to people! Just an idea...I am sooooo grateful for what we have here already!!!

Ya'll take care.

tvillemom, Here (http://www.welikeitraw.com/rawfood/2005/11/garam_masala_go.html#more) is the link for the recipe for Garam Masala Gobi *I guess this probably should be in the Recipes area, but I wanted to let you in on this good thing!* Garam Masala is a spice blend used in Indian and South Asian cooking, I think it is generally very easy to find.. I think maybe it's cumin/coriander and some other stuff?? Gobi just means cauliflower.

I really love this stuff, and I don't normally like cauliflower. I've made it twice in the last 2 weeks, using an entire head of cauli (and I confess, usually eating the entire recipe in one day)

The only things I recommend are:
A) you can use less oil, just don't omit it entirely
B) add water to thin enough so that the cauli gets good n' coated
C) it tastes great as is, and even better dehydrated a few hours
D) add more spice if you like it spicy (but don't try nutritional yeast cuz it tastes pretty gross that way ;) )

Oh, and it looked NOTHING like that picture when I made it. Go figure.

Checking in after a long day of shopping and watching DVDs with the family (that Ant Bully and Ice Age - the Meltdown or something like that are two really cute movies! :D )

Well, I didn't do well today...I caved in to those things that have a hold on me (those of you who "know" me know what I'm referring to) but I AM NOT GIVING UP - you can bet your booty I'm in it to win it.

So I had one day of a mess-up...so what? Onward to day 6 and ALL raw baybee!

I think what messed me up was that unpreparedness thing...went out shopping and didn't take a THING with me and then seeing my son with something made me want it and well...

But not dwelling on THAT anymore - what I DID have that was good today was more of the "cheese" and crackers I made yesterday, an orange, banana, the fruit cereal I mentioned earlier, dried pears and a nice salad. What I'm REALLY craving right NOW is a green smoothie or a banana-vanilla shake...but alas, it's kinda late here and hubby's in bed and I don't want to disturb him with the Vitamix...so I'll look forward to having it tomorrow!

Whew - got a bit of a headache this morning!

I'm doing the activity portion of this challenge with flying colors!

http://991.com/newgallery/Michael-Jackson-Dont-Stop-Til-You-349812.jpg

Don't Stop Till You Get Enough
Michael Jackson

Lovely, is the feelin' now
Fever, temperatures risin' now
Power (oh power) is the force the vow
That makes it happen, It asks no questions why (ooh)
So get closer, (closer now) to my body now
Just love me, 'til you don't know how (ooh)

Chorus
Keep on with the force don't stop
Don't stop 'til you get enough
Keep on with the force don't stop
Don't stop 'til you get enough
Keep on with the force don't stop
Don't stop 'til you get enough
Keep on with the force don't stop
Don't stop 'til you get enough

Touch me and I feel on fire
Ain't nothin', like a love desire (ooh)
I'm melting, (I'm melting now) like hot candle wax
Sensation (ah sensation) lovely where we're at (ooh)
So let love, take us through the hours
I won't be complanin' 'Cause this is, love power (ooh)

Chorus.......LEAD........BREAK

Heartbreak, enemy despise
Eternal (ah eternal) love shines in my eyes (ooh)
So let love (oh let love) take us through the hours

and I don't want to spend all my life , just in waiting for you
now I don't want u back for the weekend

Misslinda, so sorry to hear that your getting Boils. I got those the last time I was Raw for a extended period and they were terrible. They were painful and I got them all over but mostly on my belly and they left permanent circular scars. I wasn't sure why it was happening but I assumed it was detox. NOT looking forward to that again :(

Rawkinlocs - I know what you mean about it being so late and not wanting to disturb others in the house with the Vitamix.. I have become so dependent on my FP and blender for nearly every meal or snack I make  and I always have to call out a warning to my housemates that I'm "Blending!" before I hit the On button :p

These appliances are so darn loud! I think many times I have wanted to make say, banana icecream or a blended salad or smoothie, and couldn't make loud noise (it being too late or someone was snoozing or on the phone or studying)... so I have ended up eating cooked instead -

So far today:
juice of grapefruit with E3Live
Cacao-banana-blackberry-vega-water 'pudding'

I must say I am not exercising much or moving much.. I am walking daily, but not always for very long or at a decent pace, and I certainly have fallen off any desire to to strength moves or such.. I am lacking in energy and my sleep patterns are way off mark. So I feel very sloth-like lately..

Ah well. At least I'm eating raw.

lil voyager over here wandered her little fingers to the supermarket and got a mini vegetable pizza and an organic chocolate bar.

and now she feels really overheated and has a headache :(

i just want it out of me, i feel so gross right now.

please remind me everyone that it will exit but remind me not to do it again..

thevoyager.... och. I get that overheated-ness too, after eating cooked food. I wonder what that is about... I could remind you not to do it again, but I need to remind myself as well :o

I've been really hungry today, despite the huge cacao-banana concotion I had earlier...

More sunflower-lemon pate with nori and greens rolled up..

And yes, I ate some of the raw undehydrated calzone batter - (weird, reminded me of my childhood days eating raw pizza dough. Blech.) There is some inherent or mechanical reaction to lick the spoon and scrape out the bowl and eat it... I don't know why I do it, but I've eaten some pretty slimy, mushy, and unpalatable things this way!

Dinner was zucchini pasta with the garlickycashewtomatobasil sauce
and some calzone dough bread out of the dehydrator.

My housemates always comment on my food being COLD and say how I need to eat HOT food. I don't know. I prefer cold food now. Always have, but even more so since I have been moving towards 100% raw.

OH, and here's some DiScO DaNcInG for DaY sIx, so I fit in :p

Today I've eaten:
B: green smoothie with banana, peach and strawberries...YUM
L: LARGE apple with cashew butter...another big YUMMY...quite filling and ooooh so sweet!!
D:???? I don't know yet...probably a green "thrown together" salad when I get home from church tonight....or maybe an apple/avo/sushi roll...from Alissa's book...that recipe is surprisingly delicious...myn 9 yr. old son loved it!! He thought it tasted good, and then kept asking for more...yeah, I think that's dinner!!

Ya'll have a great night....anyone thirsty? I've been drinking more water than I normally do. I guess that's a good thing!!

I have some almonds in the dehydrator that, after soaking in water, I rinsed and stirred in some Bragg's Liquid Aminos, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper ... and when I put them in the dehydrator I sliced up some baby bellas so they could soak in the leftover mixture ... now those baby's are in my wonderful salad and I'm getting a nice burn in my mouth ... yummmmm, I like spicy food :D

Today I've eaten:

3 oranges
1 banana
gRAWnola (from www.oneluckyduck.com)
2 handfuls of Chex Mix, again!
KimChee
Large salad w/romaine, roma tomatoes, black olives, pine nuts, and the soaked baby bella's ... :D

I just made some Almond Hummus (Karen Knowler recipe) and after I finish my salad I am going to make the Taco mixture from RAWvolution.

Hello dancing queens,

I have stiff upper back. I would say neck but it is a could vertebrae lower. Bugging me all day. Could this be detox? I haven't done yoga for 2 days so I doubt it was from that. Guess I could have slept wierd, but I woke up 3 hours before I got up and it didn't hurt.

I changed the date to the wine bar on my corner. Now I can eat first.

My 11yr old nephew wants to give up milk and meat. I need to find some books for my brother. It is just my brother raising his kids (4 of them - the other 3 are very little). He also has a live in nanny that does most of the cooking...and she speaks mostly spanish. My brother eats horridly and the nanny cooks a lot of fried food. My nephew wants to eat healthy. I am looking for some books to give to them that are easy and that they will actually use to make things for him. Anyone got any ideas here? This is gonna be tough! Do they sell copies of any vegan cookbooks in spanish??

Lunch: burger on a bun (buns are ok, but i like the burgers alone better) and crepes
jicama
dinner: prob bell pepper and more jicama

I'll let y'all know how the date goes tomorrow.

tvillemom and Misslinda - Here is the recipe I used for the Tropical lime pie. No it was not my recipe to begin with, but I did tweak it to what I like.

It comes from my Raw Food Gourmet book:

Crust:

2 cups of dried coconut flakes (I should have used 3 cups)
1/4 cup Raw honey or agave nectar (I used agave nectar)

Mix ingredients together in a food processor fitted with an S blade. Press dough into a 9-10 inch non-metal pie plate.

Filling:

2 ripe bananas, peeled and sliced.
4 medium Hass avocados, peeled and seeded
Juice of 4 lime
1/4 Raw honey (I added a 1/2 cup)

Place banana slices on prepared crust. Place avocado, lime juice, sweetners, in a food processor fitted with an S blade and process until thoroughly blended. Pour over bananas and chill or partially freeze before serving. (I put mine in the freezer)

I don't know if there is something you can spray so that the coconut doesn't stick to the bottom but if you can think of something, I would try because mine was hard to get out of the pie plate.

I don't even like avacodo but with the lime and banana you don't even taste the avacodo and the pie is a pretty green color. I even brought a slice for someone at work who doesn't like avacado and she was suprised to like it as well.

Hope you enjoy!

OK, tvillemom, those flax crackers came out grrreat :p I got the gingerroot idea from Alissa's book... on one of her flax recipes, she suggests it, but i sorta combined her two recipes and added a few things of my own... if i can remember correctly, i added shredded carrot, garlic, lfresh gingerroot, lemon juice, braggs, onion powder with golden flaxseeds.... they're yummy!

Rawkinlocks, don't beat yourself up too much; tomorrow is another day... ONE DAY AT A TIME and now we have DAY 7 to look forward to :D

Today
B - green smoothie - water w/tahini, banana, tangerine juice, spinach, kale
L - apple, banana, walnuts, cranberries, ground flax, honey bowl... YUM !
a huge sweet pear
D - salad w/spinach, baby romaine leaves, tom's, cuke, zuch, summer squash, sprouted lentils

lots of water

Another great day! Did some Christmas shopping today and DID bring along some snacks and ate lunch before going, so i felt plenty full... i actually got quite a bit of shopping done, too....tomorrow i want to start wrapping.....

Hope you're all enjoying the Christmas season, too :D

oh, also wanted to ask you, when you go to japanese restaurant and get vegetable sushi, do you just ask them to leave out the rice and roll some veggies in nori??? just wondering.....

Thanks for posting the lime recipe.... can't wait to try it :p

Wow that is a great idea about the coconut oil. Next time I make it I will definately do that. I used regular limes.

It depends on the restaurant but yes just ask them to eliminate the rice, they can do it. If not (I get some at a chinese buffet where the rice is on the outside of the nori), I pick off the rice and top it with ginger (how I love fresh ginger). I think it is better if they will eliminate the rice this way you get more veggies (than if you have to pick it off.)

I hope you guys don't mind me ducking in here (Disco Duck-ing?) to say ... you're doing fabulously! My own experience (and that of those I've worked with) has me knowing that you can do this. And ... keep on doing it after the 30 days are up.

(Rawkinlocs ... I remember our walk across PCH in Laguna [was it to find an ATM machine at that mini-mart?] a little over a year ago when you shared about what your processed food pitfalls were. You stayed on the straight and narrow for a while after that, I know. You can do it again! You know the key is to be prepared and as caring about yourself as you are about those beautiful babies that've been entrusted to you.)

I know I'm not a part of this tribe (even though I was definitely out and about in the disco scene back in that era -- ugggh!! what a confession!), but I'm gonna share what I've had today -- mostly because so much of it was prepared (gourmet-type stuff) when I'm wanting to be eating much more simply, okay? Thanks! Here goes:

Guest Share: :p

- Grapefruit
- 1/2 apple w/smear of cashew butter
- Power-size Jamba Juice smoothie (specially made w/only fresh-squeezed o.j., mangoes, and bananas)
- Big salad w/guacamole & grated veggies (Holy Moly Guacamole Salad @ Leaf Cuisine)
- Big bowl of blended soup (Humanese Soup@ Au Lac)
- Curried guacamole w/celery sticks (@ Au Lac)
- Banana
- Ultimate Raw Foods raw cacao bar
- 1/2 handful of cashews

This is my "bad" eating (or, as Brian Clements calls it, "recreational" eating). What I feel best on currently and what I'll do again once I shop tomorrow (been away from home for 5 days or so, then way too busy upon returning) is: way more fruit, green smoothies, blended soups, and salads -- all made at home. Sigh.

Anyway -- thanks so much for letting me visit. I just spent almost an hour reading this entire thread, so I felt it would be rude of me to not say something before leaving!! ;)

(p.s. MissLinda, I would DIE (or my digestive system would cease functioning or I'd be too fatigued to do anything but lie around) eating the teensy little bitsy tiny amount of food you're eating!!! But, hey, it's sure not affecting your sense of humor!)

(p.p.s. Moonstone - Vital Green isn't raw and the literature on it essentially says you can either eat veggies OR drink their liquid. Here's the blurb: Most people eating a diet high in fatty foods, carbohydrates and sugars tend to be on the acidic side. By eating more acid-neutralizing foods like raw spinach, beets, brocolli and alfalfa, and/or by taking Vital Greens, a greens supplement that contains high amounts of chlorophyll, superfoods and vegetable juice extract, you can help restore your body’s pH balance. I vote for the real food rather than the processed!)

Moonstone my friend, you still have a BEE GEES album? :D I've seen the product you are talking about but never have doen research or used it. The only concentrated green I take is wheatgrass juice. :)

I'm so glad you gave up the diet soda, the artificial sweetners out there with the latest studies, makes me wish eighteen years ago or more, I had never touched one.

Morning all,

Date was nice. We just sat and talked for a couple hours over 1 glass of wine. My office x-mas party is tonight, but I will eat before I go. The food never looks that good anyway so I doubt I'll be tempted.

I am very sneezy today and my neck is still sore. Not sure if I'm coming down with something, have allergies or detox?

The sun is shining here in New Hampshire and it's a pretty mild day... I went out this morning and decorated my door with pretty green garland and played frisbie with my dog, Dharma... yeah, that's right, my dog's name is Dharma, not mine... tee hee hee  ........

So far today, I've only had a little green smoothie, about 7 oz. and I'm a hungry little raw person....... soooooo, I plan to get into my flax crackers and then ????? not sure; i'll see what I find in fridge!!!

HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A RAWSOME AWESOME DAY!!

PEACE AND JOY

Just sipping my carrot/apple juice this morning...

Meal plan (so I don't get myself into trouble again)

carrot/apple juice
water
smoothie
fruit
big salad
more fruit

I'm going to start taking a cholesterol supplement I got at the health food store. Last night out of nowhere I had some pains on my left side, felt sort of like muscle pains around the ribcage, but I felt like a Superfreak because I didn't know what was wrong, and was sorta scared - always thinking about heart attcks at this age (family history) and looked up the symptoms in my Nutiritional Healing book - so I took my cholesterol on my monitor and it was on the high side (264). Blood pressure was normal though.

Anyway, I wouldn't complain if you all threw a few prayers my way.

Burn baby burn...

Artist: The Trammps Lyrics
Song: Disco Inferno Lyrics
Burn baby burn! Burn baby burn! Burn baby burn! Burn baby burn!
Burnin'!

To mass fires, yes! One hundred stories high
People gettin' loose y’all gettin' down on the roof - Do you hear?
(the folks are flaming) Folks were screamin' - out of control
It was so entertainin' - when the boogie started to explode
I heard somebody say

Burn baby burn! - Disco inferno!
Burn baby burn! - Burn that mama down
Burn baby burn! - Disco inferno!
Burn baby burn! - Burn that mama down
Burnin'!

Satisfaction (uhu hu hu) came in the chain reaction
(burnin') I couldn't get enough, (till I had to self-destroy) so I had to
self destruct, (uhu hu hu)
The heat was on (burnin’), rising to the top, huh!
Everybody's goin' strong (uhu hu hu)
And that is when my spark got hot
I heard somebody say

Burn baby burn! - Disco inferno!
Burn baby burn! - Burn that mama down, yoh!
Burn baby burn! - Disco inferno!
Burn baby burn! - Burn that mama down
Burnin'!

Up above my head I hear music in the air - I hear music!
That makes me know there's (somebody) a party somewhere

Satisfaction came in a chain reaction - Do you hear?
I couldn't get enough, so I had to self destruct,
The heat was on, rising to the top
Everybody's goin' strong
That is when my spark got hot
I heard somebody say

Burn baby burn! - Disco inferno! (Aah yeah!)
Burn baby burn! - Burn that mama down
Burn baby burn! - Disco inferno, yeah!
Burn baby burn! - Burn that mama down
Burn baby burn! - Disco inferno! (Aah yeah!)
Burn baby burn! - Burn that mama down
Burn baby burn! - Disco inferno, yeah!
Burn baby burn! - Burn that mama down
Burnin’!

I just can't stop
When(till) my spark gets hot
Just can't stop
When my spark gets hot

Burning, burning, burning, burning...

Good morning everyone. How's everybody doing? I'm so glad to be "challenging" during this time of year. . .if I can make it through Christmas, I will be so proud of myself.

I've been going through a detox these last few days so I've been juicing only. . apple/grape, orange juice, young coconut water. That and sleeping a whole lot. Hopefully I will be feeling better in a few days, then I will have the requisite energy needed to "BURN that mutha DOWN!"

Thank you!

Like I wrote, I got a little freaked, then I calmed down. I guess one of those things were you don't want to over react or under react. It was pretty late and I really didn't want to go to the ER. I took about 5 baby aspirins and did a lot of deep breathing. I still don't know what it was. The book said heart attack symptoms can be different from person to person, and that women generally have atypical symptoms and tend to ignore them.

I inherited high cholesterol, my father died of a heart attack at exactly my age, as well as his mother, my paternal grandma, same exact age. He had a pretty bad diet though, and wasn't even a vegetarian, and was overweight. Just a family history/genetic thing for me that I've always had to deal with.

Now put on your platform disco shoes and dance, woman!!!

OK...confession...I KNOW I don't have to, I could lie...but here it is...the ugly truth, and a realization about some of my problem with my slip ups....
Fast food for lunch. 2 bites in and I don't know why...WHY did I order this crap??? Very....VERY MAD AT MYSELF!
{{{{{{{{{{BREATH}}}}}}}}}}}
OK...tantrum over. My realization is...next Thursday on grocery day, WENDI WILL HAVE LUNCH PREPARED, WAITING FOR HER AT HOME...SOMETHING IRRESISTABLE THAT I CAN'T WAIT TO EAT!!! :D :D
It just seems soooo hard to be starving leaving the grocery store, knowing you have TONS of groceries to unpack, and nothing "ready" to eat....but what about that apple sitting in there....??? Not tempting enough I guess...that's why I KNOW NEXT WEEK WILL BE DIFFERENT!! :D :D

Like I said to Rawkinlocs the other day...onward and upward...determined...
DETERMINEDNOT to make the same mistake again!!

Dinner will be a large salad with plenty of veggies (cauliflower, yellow peppers, carrots, sweet onion, celery, brocolli....)
AND lots of water this afternoon to flush out the nasty stuff.

ON WITH DAY 7.....YOU GUYS ROCK!!

I hear you !!! Been there, done that ... and I was very tempted today when my son asked me to pick him up something and bring it to him at work. I was on my way home from work and was very hungry so when it took him a while to come out to the car I was thinking, "If he doesn't get this stuff soon I'm going to start eating it!" My mouth was even starting to water. Yet, in my heart of hearts I *knew* that I would be mad at myself and past history has shown that I would have done a downward spiral because "I blew it, might as well do it up big and start over in the morning." Soooo, I am glad I didn't cave and he came out a few minutes later! AND I am so glad that you took that deep breath :) You will survive!

Good morning everyone! I just wanted to report that I made the "Garam Masala Gobi" and it was pretty good. I only made 1/4 of the recipe, and good thing I did because I could only eat 1/2 of that! I plan to eat the rest for lunch! Breakfast will be a LARGE apple, "gobi" for lunch and I'm thinking of making Alissa's crepes for dinner...or DH may be out for dinner and I will take some soaked...(and then soaked in Bragg's) and dehydrated sunflower seeds...those are SOOOO yummy, and I can add those to any "plain" salad to make it special.
Anyway, I hope everyone has a FANTASTIC DAY! During this second week I plan to exercise everyday, at least alittle. Exercise is the one thing I just seem to "get too busy" to do :o But I'm adding that to keep up with my NEW LIFESTYLE!!
Take care. I'll be back later to see how everyone else is doing!! HAPPY FRIDAY!!!

Happy day 8 everyone! We're 1/4 of the way there!! I went to my office x-mas party last night. I made sure to eat first. I had angel hair zucchini pasta with marinara (prob would put in less garlic next time) and the last of the crepes. I was actually really stuffed..a little uncomofortable. But I didn't touch anything at the party! I kept the drinking to a minimum and now I'm at work and almost no one else has made it in yet.

I hope you all have a great day. Happy Friday! :D

Song For Today: (Shake Shake Shake) Shake Your booty

Hey thanks Wendi and morn for you prayers. I'm thinking that it may have been a pulled muscle afterall, although there's no way of really knowing!

Wendi and all - don't sweat the small stuff. If we are all in this for the long haul, we just have to walk around the bumps in the road, because they will always come up!

I tried to follow my plan, but I think the fruit/salad/fruit was a little too general for me.

I felt like something heavy, and made some cashew milk for my raw granola. After a few bites I found t TOO heavy, so I tossed it. Since I had leftover cashew milk I made a raw cacao/cashew/date chocolate milk thing, which was really good. I'll try to reconstruct the recipe for you all here.

Chocolate Milk

Cashew milk (2-3 tablespoons ground cashews with 2 cups water)
1 teaspoon cacao powder (or carob, cocoa, etc.)
3 pitted dates (soak first for a smoother result)
2 teaspoons agave or honey
1 teaspoon vanilla
handful ice

Blend. I didn't soak my date and I used honey, so I had some bits at the bottom of the glass, but this was a very rich drink.

tvillemom - that cashew cilantro cheese is one of the "threw it together's".. i'm sure it's pretty much loosely based on most cashew cheese recipes, Alissa's or otherwise (it pains me to admit I still do not have her book.. I'm trying to get my pub library to order copy)

I use cahews, soaked when possible, if not I grind them to powder dry, the mix with usually lemon juice, and fresh herbs.. sometimes some cayenne or cumin or sundried tomato.. just depends. I use lime juice sometimes too, it gives a much diff flavour.. to me I think ranchy salad dressing taste..

The onions/kale marination was an inspiration from those kale chip thread.. I sliced the onions thin in rings, and tossed in a bowl, with kale leaves torn up, fresh pressed ginger juice, pressed garlic, tamari (not raw so if you have access to nama shoyu that would work, or Braggs maybe?) and a tinch of oil. Let it sit in the fridge like that for a few hours then dehydrated for maybe 5-8 hours...

It was like cooked, and I guess, realistically speaking, it was cooked, slow cooked at low temperatures in my dehydrator. Kinda goes against my instinct of fresh raw food, but when I'm struggling not to eat french fries or white bread or whatever, it's spectacular!

The onion ringlets like this are amazing.. mellow, almost caramelized.. I imagine they would be great marinated and then dipped in a "batter" of ground nuts/water/lemon/spices and then they would be as onion rings! I'll have to try that this weekend :)

Oh, and the Gobi... I am always uncertain recommending recipes because A) I tend to never follow the recipe exactly and forget what changes I've made and B) I tend to like things the rest of the people who try it don't care for... So I'm glad that you thought it was good and not completely horrible!

Ok just finished my yoga bootie ballet tape of cardi (36 minutes) and my abs of steel tape (10 minutes). The whole yoga (meditation) thing to me is a little out there but the rest of the tape is fun as far as the dancing. Had a flat tire in between taking my #1 daughter to school and #2 daughter to her school. Luckily I didn't break down on the express way and noticed it and got it to Discount Tire. I am a little tired so I may try to take a short nap today. Later I have to play taxi again for daughter and then off to a holiday party. Don't know if there will be safe food there so I will probably eat a salad with my raspberry vinegarette dressing I just made before I go. Foods eaten:

A few cashews with nutrional yeast and sea salt
Tropical Lime Pie

Salad later with raspberry vinegarette dressing.

I had a less than tasty green juice. I forgot to add lemon or lime like I usually do so it was stronger.. kale, cucumber and cilantro, ginger... I feel good tho'.

Then I ate a big bowl of acai sorbet (which I have realized is not entirely raw because the cane sugar juice they add for sweetener... SIGH. I knew it was too good to be true)

Banana-raspberry icecream with date... a few coconut macaroons (blonde and cacao) -- I tried dehydrating these for the 1st time.. good, but I actually prefer them moist and gooey..

*I will make certain to share the results of my onion ring experimentation this

Just had the yummiest meal :p .... I made Alissa's Pad Thai, but instead of mung sprouts, I sprouted lentils this week and used them. This dish was absolutely delishish~~~ Highly recommend trying this if you haven't... it's EASY, too! :D

Foods eaten today:

Mixed green salad w/tom, cuke, zuchinni, celery, yellow pepper

Banana
Pad Thai
Banana ice cream walnuts

Guess I was pretty hungry today :o .... I feel full right now for the first time probably since i've been eating raw!!

Still here and hangin in there! I just haven't really felt much like writing out everything (which is why I kept a LOUSY journal...at first I'm all gung ho and then I get "lazy" about it.

But today I've been really enjoying my green smoothies. I am recently on an apple kick...I'm diggin' the texture that apples lend to my smoothies as well as the flavor. The one I had today had 1 banana, 3 apples, few kale leaves, an orange and a couple pieces of frozen pineapple...MMMM so good!

I'm also craving apple pie, so I'll probably be making some kind of apple pie or apple crisp this sometime this weekend. I guess my body is tuning in to the fruit of this season...good 'ole WASHINGTON apples! :D

Rawkinlocs your smoothie sounds yummy. I think you've inspired me to try green smoothies again. I never got them right. But I don't think I put enough fruit in. I just finished off a chocolate/banaa/date shake. Pure heaven!

I still have a nast stiff neck so I got a massage after work. So nice. Helped a lot! Debated whether or not to go to yoga tomorrow. Will either really help or make it worse. See how I feel in the morning.

Food today:
apple cereal, almond milk, banana
burger bun with no burger, fruit
salad w/avocado
dinner was the rest of the buns and the shake. Not enough veggies, but oh well.

I did do well last night at the party. The REAL test will be next Thursday at our department party...it's at a restaurant. I think they already ordered me a vegan meal, but I think it's all cooked. I'll try to eat before again and just pick out what I can eat at the restaurant.

This community is great ... a place where we know we are not the only ones going through, or who have gone through, tough times and temptations.

Congratulations, too, to Morn who is an inspiration to all of us to get off our butts and Move to the Music :D

Well I was right there was next to no safe/raw food at the party tonight. I was able to scroung up 1 celery stick and 3 baby carrots and a few almonds. It was a little weird eating a formal dinner and me not eating. I had to explain I was on a special diet and shared with a few people what I was doing. I did however eat a large spinach salad with strawberries, tomatoes, goji berries a few hours before I left so I wasn't too hungry. Then I started getting hungry when they were all eating dessert so I asked the hostess if I could eat a banana. I was just glad not to be pounding down the million calories around me and focusing on people instead of being obsessed with the food.

Anyway my husband took some new pictures of me so I uploaded them into my journal area and changed my avatar since I hadn't updated it in awhile. Looking back just over the last few months I think I have made some progress. However, I will know I have made real progress when people on there own ask if I have lost weight and that hasn't happened yet. Its weird because I wonder how much weight it will take for me to lose till that happens. I know I have a ton to lose so I will be in this for the long haul. Anyway thank you all for your kind words and encouragement. I could not do this alone. You guys are what keeps me focused and on the straight and narrow path. A HUGE THANKYOU!

Well, I got up today and weighed myself again out of curiosity. I lost 6 pounds in one day! I don't think I look like I lost it, but rather it was from my colon

This despite the fact that I hate A LOT of dates yesterday. Makes me happy. At this rate I'll be back to my normal weight tomorrow haha.

GoOd MOrnInG EveRyONe!!!

Girlsmiley: All your colors inspire me! I LOVE olives! Where do I find true raw ones, and when I find them, what do I need to do to them to make them edible???

Misslinda: I love the way you combine apples, avo's, and bananas and such to make a salad or a fruit bowl. I usually only eat avos as a quac. dip, or pureed in something like chili...so you inspire me to try different things.

Sharon: I think my kids are getting a kareoke machine for Christmas...a 70's CD would be fun...your musical choices have inspired me to dig deeper, and try something new....and keep me "rawkin" through the day....thanks for the time you spend searching for music!! :D

MORN: Your new pict. really shows how much you've changed!! Don't worry about others noticing your weight loss....that can bring you down. Just keep focusing on good health. (As I preach the same thing to myself!)

Dream: Your weightloss for 1 day is crazy....you gotta love that!! (No matter "where" it came from ;)

Last night we went out to a mexican restaurant...I ate wonderful guacamole salad. It was soo yummy...I didn't miss all that cheese and junk!!
Breakfast this morning was an apple....finding myself hungry again...maybe a banana.
Lunch will be garam masala gobi
Dinner: Chili!!!

Ya'll have a great, fantastic, wonderful RAW day.....
Wendi

Hello Raw Folk!

Sorry for not checkin in sooner. Work has been extremely chaotic and lots of things going on in the family. But I am blessed and happy to say the power is back on and I am in my own familiar surroundings again. The last few days, for some reason, I was on a raisin kick and I probably ate - mmmh- I don't know how many raisins I ate in these last two days. I don't know. But the thrill is gone with the raisins. Over the next two days (starting today) I will be doing a concentrated fast. I just wanted to check in and see how everyone is doing. I see by your posts that we are all moving along in this journey.

Over the next two days, I doubt I'll eat much; probably lots of water and maybe some citrus juices in the early morning. I will try to check in late Sunday night after my fast. Keep on keepin' on everyone!

In peace......

Song For Today: YMCA

Wendi you keep beating me here in the morning, I feel bad for not getting here to give you your song, lol. Hope you check back soon, and I guess I'll have to either post the night before or set my alarm clock to get on here when the rooster crows!

Artist: Village People Lyrics
Song: Y.M.C.A. Lyrics

Young man, there's no need to feel down.
I said, young man, pick yourself off the ground.
I said, young man, 'cause you're in a new town
There's no need to be unhappy.

Young man, there's a place you can go.
I said, young man, when you're short on your dough.
You can stay there, and I'm sure you will find
Many ways to have a good time.

It's fun to stay at the y-m-c-a.
It's fun to stay at the y-m-c-a.

They have everything for you men to enjoy,
You can hang out with all the boys ...

It's fun to stay at the y-m-c-a.
It's fun to stay at the y-m-c-a.

You can get yourself clean, you can have a good meal,
You can do what about you feel ...

Young man, are you listening to me?
I said, young man, what do you want to be?
I said, young man, you can make real your dreams.
But you got to know this one thing!

No man does it all by himself.
I said, young man, put your pride on the shelf,
And just go there, to the y.m.c.a.
I'm sure they can help you today.

Young man, I was once in your shoes.
I said, I was down and out with the blues.
I felt no man cared if I were alive.
I felt the whole world was so tight ...

That's when someone came up to me,
And said, young man, take a walk up the street.
There's a place there called the y.m.c.a.
They can start you back on your way.

It's fun to stay at the y-m-c-a.
It's fun to stay at the y-m-c-a.

They have everything for you men to enjoy,
You can hang out with all the boys ...

Y-m-c-a ... you'll find it at the y-m-c-a.

Young man, young man, there's no need to feel down.
Young man, young man, get yourself off the ground.

Y-m-c-a ... you'll find it at the y-m-c-a.

Young man, young man, there's no need to feel down.
Young man, young man, get yourself off the ground.

Y-m-c-a ... just go to the y-m-c-a.

Young man, young man, are you listening to me?
Young man, young man, what do you wanna be?
