This is a modification of Rawvolution's Onion bread--it has always tasted too salty to me, and when I made the recipe the first time, I thought 3 onions was too much. I've replaced the nama shoyu with water and bragg's, partly to reduce the sodium and partly because of my wheat allergy. It has a mildly sweet onion-y flavor to it.

1 large onion, minced fine in food processor
3/4 cup whole flaxseed, ground in vitamix
3/4 cup pumpkin seeds (you could also use sunflower seeds--I was out!) ground fine in food processor
1/2 cup water
2-3 teaspoons bragg's
scant 1/3 cup olive oil

Mix everything together in a bowl. Spread on one teflex sheet and dehydrate. I'm using it for pizza, so I'm dehydrating til still moist, but if you dried it till crispy, it makes excellent crackers.

Funny you should post that! I just now decided to throw in a batch of onion bread in the dehydrator along with other goodies...

I, too, don't like it too salty. I also like to replace the oil with a mixture of avocado, 2 tbs oil and water swirled up in the FP.

I think I might try with the pumpkin seeds too. Sounds yum!

Off to my "uncooking"...

LOL. Carmella that is too funny because I have been in between making raw food and reading the posts on RFT when I came across this post AS i was putting Rawvolutions onion bread in the dehydrater. Too funny!

I will have to try this recipe- especially if my 1st shot at this doesn't turn out.

salsababy,

Sure sounds like we've been two busy girls today!LOL! :D

Just put in Mysticat's Ginger Stars (and Flowers :D )...

...and last, but not least, will be banana crepes for tomorrow!

How I just LOVE making raw food! I realized today how I would sometimes make SAD stuff like cookies or muffins because I enjoyed the preparation part of it. However, I'd eat the result when it came fresh out of the oven but then would completely lose interest. I just didn't FEEL like eating that stuff. With raw, I can have my cookies and eat them too! LOL!

Yum, Carmella. I think I might try the avo substitute next time. I'm trying to replace some of the oils I eat with more fresh fats instead!

Raw Magwene,
Just got my onion bread out of the "oven"... (Boy, how the house smelled good all night!)

I used golden flax seeds (Wow! What a difference in taste!) with a few tbs of brown and a mixture of ground sunflower and pumpkin seeds.

It's the best batch I've made yet! And I THOUGHT I was addicted... LOL :)

I used golden flaxseed as well. Mine turned out really yummy although I will probably use less namosoya. My non-raw brother (whom is my house roommate) tested it and said "it's good-tastes like a blooming onion"). Ha!

i do flax crisps 50/50 regular and golden. Soak, season, dehydrate. YUM!

I know it's not exactly raw but I love making mine with a little less shoyu & adding some maple syrup! Makes it sweet & the bread stays nice & soft & chewy! Maybe I could sub the syrup for bananas or something.. :D

Or maybe agave nectar or honey? I'm hungry again...

Raw Vegan Mom,

I like your idea of adding maple syrup. I'll try that next time. I love the bread but it's much too strong. I made the mistake of eating some before going into the mall. I couldn't even stand my own breath, I felt sorry for the sales people helping me!
