Isn't flaxseed expensive? I think it is. It cost $50.00 to make a bag of flax crackers. :(

Flaxseed is very inexpensive where I am...I can't remember exactly but less than $2.00/lb. It takes about 2 cups to make a batch of crackers.
Grinds great in the vitamix or coffee grinder.

Good idea, thanks.
Flax seed should not be that expensive in the United States! Whole foods has containers of them for like $3.00! Yes it is raw, organic flax seed.
I make veggie flax crackers with onion, red pepper, a bit of cilantro, spinach and garlic, combine in food processor add some sea salt and that's it! I have varied it several times with whatever I have in the fridge...always comes out good.
good luck !

You can always find the most expensive, or MORE expensive way to purchase something......from different sites, etc... You can find organic, raw seed in most health food stores......the nutrients and oils are made available after you grind them. I keep my seeds in the freezer and grind as needed.

Thanks, do you guys soak your flaxseed first? For how long do you soak them. Or do you just grind them up and add water to make a paste then dehydrate?

I use a Magic Bullet for flax seed. This is something I got as a gift and never thought I would use but it works great for flax. With flax, you need to grind *or* soak. If ground, you don't need to soak. However when I am making onion bread, I do let the ground seeds soak in the onion and olive oil for a few minutes. Seems to make it more blended.

Flax seeds are soaked for only a short time, mainly to get them to release the gel-like liquid that holds flax crackers together. This is explained in Alissa's book (if you don't have it yet, it's a source for all the basics in getting started raw).
Buy the flax from the bulk containers at your closest health food store or Whole Foods or Wild Oats or ... I don't know where you're located, but, unless it's a teensy little hamlet, there's likely a place within 25 miles of you that has them in bulk. You needn't buy them in bottles like form the link you showed.
Flax seeds are far less than $2.00 a pound and a pound makes a heck of a lot of crackers!

Raw Truth.......I thought it was much less than that but couldn't remember how much exactly~ :)
I use two cups flax seed and 4 cups water....let it soak till all water is absorbed ( I usually just do it before I go to bed and it's ready to make the crackers when I wake up). That amount with the addition of veggies, etc...makes 4 teflex sheets of crackers for me. A LOT of crackers~
