I have a 23 month old and have heard that giving them honey is not good. At what age is it okay to start giving them honey? I have quite a few recipes that I would like to try for the girls, but am afraid to try them yet due to hearing this.

Everything I have ever read on the subject for regular (unraw) honey says not to feed honey to children under 1 year old. I would assume that same principal applies to raw honey but maybe someone with more experience with this will chime in.

Have a good day.

I agree with what rawmom says. Everything I have read says under 1 year of age, don't give them honey.

I would assume you are safe.

Mine too! Shows how observant I am! Who is it that is raising 7 raw little ones? I am barely keeping it together with 3! LOL!

Hi,
just wanted to add something to this subject.
Please do what has been told, because I don't want to interfere.

But what I want to add is the follwoing:

While Doctors say no honey until one or peanuts until 2, they o.k. processed sugar, white flour, all kinds of processed foods for infants.
They say poison is o.k. (sugar and white flour) and something as innocent (in my viewpoint) as honey is forbidden. I will look more into this.
thanks
Ibrahim

I agree with you on the poison of sugar, white flour issue, it is sad that we see it without a Doc degree. All we can do is press on and be an example, to educate that raw food is the healthiest way to live.

My son suffered from botulism from raw honey it is a VERY ugly thing. He got it at 2 months and began showing symptoms almost immediately but it took almost 4 weeks for it to become leathel and for the doctors to recognize it. After 1 week on ventilation, and another in the PEDS unit he was released and is now a healthy 3 year old. There has not been a recorded case of botulism in an infant over 363 days. That is why they say one year. Honey is wonderful, but wait a year for them to enjoy it.

you could also try as an alternative if you are not big on honey - raw agave nectar (from a flower), dates, or raisins. I often use these to switch out in recipes that call for honey. Just a thought :)
