Which type of water do you drink?
I know some a better then others.
I buy the San Benedetto water, it is a bit expensive, but I find that it tastes much better then the cheaper brands, so I actually drink it.
How much water should a person be drinking? Can you drink too much?

Only distilled water with some lemon or lime freshly squeezed juice in it!

I've heard from Hippocrates Health Institute that Smart Water is ok, if you have to buy water. I do distilled or my own RO(reverse Osmosis) water.

San Benedetto? I wonder if it is the same brand we have here, I hope not. If so, that water comes from a place very close from where i live, it is the cheapest brand here, and I think you should get something better than that!!!

VerryBerry,

>Which type of water do you drink?<

Spring water from the forest! I fetch it from the quell 2-3 times/month. It's a wounderful, high-quality, refreshing water!
(I think, spring water was one of my wishes before I incarnated :) )

>How much water should a person be drinking?<

0.5 - 12 litres/day, all depending on a lot of factors: food, activity, health status and climate factors are most relevant.

Wait a minute, 12 litres, are you kidding? No, if you work hard in the Sahara Desert sun, be prepared to bring that amount with you.

The real answer to the question is, that you have to recapture your ability to drink a proper amount of daily water.

Hunger and thirst are regulated from the hypophysis, the pituitary gland, in or under the brain.
A funny thing is that those areas are more entangled like a spaghetti hank than clear separated.

That may partly be an explanation to the fault programming of thirst feelings, a changing of the the natural conditional reflex: we feel thirst, but interpret the feeling as hunger and walk to the fridge. Soon it's a habit, our body weight increase and we are tired by the shortage of water.

People around us don't drink pure water. The drink coffee, tea, coke, milk, bears, soft drinks, juices... Their bodies signal "thirst" and the response is water together with calories. The next step is short: to find something to eat instead of drinking pure water.

My advice to everyone is, regardless of diet:
Drink at least one glass of water daily, to keep or regain your ability to correctly interpret the thirst signals of your body!

Can you drink too much?

Yes!

I was drinking Hawaii water until my health food store could no longer get it from their distributer. The taste is wonderful! So now it's a combination of tap water, Arrowhead or whatever I can get out of a machine. My daughter's dance studio has Dasani. Yuck! But better than no water I guess.

I drink tap water that has been distilled.. or tap water.

Drinking water that has been stored in plastic just doesn't sound healthy to me. I try to avoid plastics as much as possible.

Anyone ever read any articles like this:

I still buy some bottled water - mostly water with gas, regular if I'm in a pinch - but I wonder if the studies done for the article on purity included any of the "healthy" bottled waters or just the ones put out by PepsiCo & Coke?

I have a Brita filter on my kitchen faucet ... so I drink that when I'm at home. At work I drink Ice Mountain which I purchase by the case from Costco. When I travel I purchase Figi from Meijer (a local grocery store chain). I just wish they sold that at Costco :)

I came across a study over 2 years ago with an outline of over 30 kinds of bottled water out there and for a good reason why I am soooooooo picky if I need to buy water--I will gladly pay $3-4 dollars for Pentas-13 step layers of filteration.

I like the taste of Dasani and San Benedetto. I buy San Benedetto because I can get it in boxes. Any other bottled water the have here in Toronto is just plain disscussting. I can't even imagine drinking tap water!

Now that I am drinking a lot more water, it is strating to cost me quite a bit.
$35 a week may be. I know the economical option would be to buy one of those huge jugs, but I just don't have room in my kitchen. My kitchen is so tiny and it is jammed up already. I keep my bottles of water is the competr area.

Boy JGex, I sure wish I could go back 4 years ago and find that study. They had almost every bottled water listed! Dasani and Aquafina were at the top for most contaminants and arsenci levels found. That was the day I stopped all bottle waters except Penta and now VOSS but that comes in glass container so hopefully I sparred the dioxin!

Here is another entity that did a study over a 4 year period on the bottle water industry

I buy Crystal Geyser. It comes from the Roxane Spring in the Sierra Neveda's and cost $0.99-1.39/gallon depending on the store. They sponsor the "American Forests" for tree planting for environmental restoration. I also recycle all the 1 gallon bottles. Most importantly, the water tastes great!

It is true that a lot of bottled water comes from tap water, but they have run it through all kinds of filtration systems to remove all the chemicals and pollutants. So it is still by far better then regular tap water. If you don't think your tap water has them, check out: http://www.ewg.org/tapwater/yourwater/

According to NRDC 4 year water study of bottled waters, Crystal Geyser water had been detected of higher arsenic levels and other contaminents. they were sued 1999 probably like many other companies and forced to better their pruification process.

I consider quality of water as important as quality of solid food (after all, it does go into the body. So when I can, it's included as part of my food cost. Many years ago I used to think nothing of paying 10x that amount per month for coca cola and other "beverages" so concentrating that cost to quality water is not too bad.

That said, all priorities are in place when circumstances/money allow:

a) Water best obtained from ripe, juicy fruit, like melons, oranges, cucumbers, eaten liberally (organic if it doesn't break the bank).

b) reverse osmosis water that contains NO fluoride.

c) Tap water if a and b cancel out for any reason. It's better than nothing.

I'll go for the tap water with gusto if the Halifax Water Commission (where my tap water comes from) didn't brag that their water has fluoride in it. It says it on the bottled water page that that is what the TAP water contains.

I quote from this page:
http://www.halifax.ca/hrwc/BottledWater.html

Our tap water contains fluoride which is recommended by the Canadian and American Dental Associations to help prevent tooth decay. The Canadian Pediatric Society says, "the best way to prevent cavities is to add fluoride to drinking water."

I too, would be interested in what they'd say if they did a study on real water, too.

We have an alkaline water machine that takes out the minerals, chlorine and yucky stuff and adds the minerals back into the good water. It's comparable to Trinity or Penta, but costs less in the long run. We put the Ph way up so it's at a 10.

We drink it in glasses or special high grade plastic that isn't porous so no leaching occurs. About once a day we also add green grasses, celtic sea salt and/or lemon to the water for an extra boost.

Needless to say, we take our water very seriously. :p

Gwena, I'd never heard of such a thing until you mentioned it. Now I'm looking at water ionizers lol. I never knew there was so much to water! I thought there was basically spring, distilled and tap.
Thanks for sharing.

No problem Shmoopie! The alkaline machine has been around for a while in underground circles so-to-speak, and Japan. My boyfriend has been distributing it around Chicago's southside for the last five years.

In Japan they use the machine for alkaline water, but also for the acidic water that is removed from the tap water that is used to make the alkaline water (did this make sense? :D ) The acidic water is used in Japanese hospitals and restaurants as a safe disinfectant. The stuff is pretty amazing. I wash my fruit and veggies with it. When we are motivated, we use it to wash our hair as well.

If you want even more info on alkaline water, check out the book "Reverse Aging" by Dr. Sang Whang.

misslinda
12-19-2006, 12:55 PM
:) Gwena interesting take on your water. For clarification, So you are drinking water more on the acidic spectrum?

Acutally, Penta does not have any minerals but Trinity as far as I know went our of business. :(

Dr. Emoto has been one of my favorite water gurus but I'm curious to read Dr. Whang's insight as well !!!!

Gwena
12-19-2006, 01:10 PM
Hi MissLinda,

I drink the alkaline water and use the acidic stuff for cleaning things. The alkaline machine produces both. The acidic water is a by-product of the alkaline water that is being made.

Isn't it a bummer about Trinity! I guess it cost them too much to bottle the stuff at the source. It was the best way to get alkaline water without having a machine. The only other way to get a good boost of PH in your water is to add lemon, sea salt or live in Colorado.

I love Dr. Emoto's work!!! Isn't it wonderful.

I'm such a water weirdo!!! I love the stuff. After being on high Alkaline water for over a year, it's hard to think of life without it. We have friends who get our alkaline water and they actually start clapping with delight when we walk through the door with their five gallon jugs. The stuff is truly amazing.

Yes, definately read Dr. Whang's book. It's very informative.

Hi Everyone!

I was just reading through this thread about water. Something very interesting that was mentioned by Alisssa at her 5-day class that I just completed, was that there is a recent study on distilled water that shows over time it robs your bones of minerals! Not one person from my class will ever drink distilled water, or give it to their families.

I worked for Rain Soft a couple of years ago and have personally tested many differed kinds of bottled water and tap water. My personal opinion is that drinking water that has been purified through RO (reverse osmosis) is the very best you can drink. They sell RO systems that go right under your sink for $2,500; however, Costco sells one for much less - under $300.

I drink R. O. from my kitchen sink.

I often drink Smart Water in the summer to keep my electrolytes up. I faint easily in the heat.

If I'm out and about, I drink Fiji. Love the taste of Fiji!

I want to try Penta now, though!

Yeah, Trinity is one of the best alright. I used to buy a liter or so a week (that stuff is $$). It is my understanding that they are in a legal battle over source rights. Evidently even though the water bubbles up on their property, it is underneath of someone else's (albeit 2.1 miles beneath). Sucks, but it will be resolved eventually I'm sure . . .

It's possible since arsenic can be naturally occuring that some got into the sources, but they claim to presently comply with USDA, all State, WHO, and EU standards and I haven't heard any recent data from 3rd parties to the contrary. It's best to get your own spring/well obviously. I'm considering a carbon filter system for the tap . . .

I know that all the common water filters only filter the chlorine taste plus some solids but one person mentioned refrigerator water. I have seen and used soild carbon block filters that do claim to remove just about everything and they are used in refrigerators for the ice. They do not have a method of easy attachment to your water supply but if your handy or have someone to make it up for you I believe it is the best filter. It is also slow and not real cheap. I've found them at Building Supply stores.
